I just bought the DA C36, and I’m completely mystified how you get the silent coasting you demonstrate. For me, there’s plenty of the usual ratchet noise-just like every other hub with a DT Swiss-style mechanism. GCN’s review has the same noise, so I don’t think mine is defective. Are we looking at the same wheel? Mine is brand new from Shimano, purchased September 2024.

Question, do you think if you sized up the frame on the super six you might have a more balanced feeling on it? It really looks quite small under you which makes me think it would likely be fidgety and top heavy. Curious. Thank you for your honest contributions to our community.

I always look forward to your reviews and comparisons, however this one did not sit right with me. I'm just going to cut to the chase, it's an unfair comparison because of the handlebars on both bikes, the Tarmac has bars from Factor, I get that the SS came with the frame as a deal, but you missed a great opportunity here. Being that you had an issue with the SS's cockpit, it could have completely turned you off to the bike, I'd feel the same if I had a noodle for a handlebar, change the bar, do it again, if not there will always be that "what if"....

@@DiabeticCycling no,no. You said that one could use those 1000 bucks saved by buying Tarmac (vs SuperSix) to buy a set of better wheels. I’m just constantly amazed that a 4-5000 dollar bike needs/asks for a wheelset upgrade basically right after purchase. Or even before.

No one ever talks about how a bike carries speed on the flats.
@kimwarner6050
@kimwarner6050 4 күн бұрын
The bike that holds speed the best for me is any pinarello. I was riding a pinarello Paris before I got the sl8. I was disappointed with how the sl8 almost seems to fight you above 24mph. It holds speed well, but not as well as a pinarello. I then purchased a pinarello F5, and rebuilt it to 15 pounds. The F5 is faster and holds speed very well. The advantage of the sl8 is how it accelerates so quickly and almost lunges forward because it's so light. Both bikes now pretty much weigh the same, but the Sl8 feels so much lighter. When riding you can't really feel the weight. I live n Florida so all I do is ride the flats. I've come to the conclusion that adding weight back onto the SL8 made it ride better. Before it felt nervous at above 20mph and did not corner good. I believe the weight before I downgraded it was 6.2kg

@@jonphotos8631 to me that's the most important thing. I was considering getting a supersix Evo, but the weight wennie forum is filled with people complaining. They are having issues with the seatpost wedge damaging the seatpost, also many have said the front end is not stiff because of the delta steerer. The dogma is an excellent choice, I don't like the new proprietary handlebar. Hopefully they come out with a new stem

I find the SL8 very exciting and joyful to ride. It's not boring at all. It's akin to driving a Porsche. It begs you to go harder and faster. While riding it it has this distinct hum to it. I'm not sure if it's from the wheels or the frame.

Seem to me, Hi-mod Is above regular tarmac, lab 71 is above sworks. For similar sized bikes, the supersix runs small, 51 sse would be equivalent to a 54 tarmac, yet even though the sse has the longer wheelbase. A Longer wheelbase provides a more stable ride, not more finicky as you say. That longer wheelbase is in part due to a slacker head tube angle, which is what produces that top “heavy” feeling you describe, but will make the bike more stable on the downhills. Your sse had a set back seatpost, and because the front tire is further forward, the rear tire may have been weighted more than what you are used to, adding to a feeling of imbalance. There are useful tools online to view and compare bike geometry, so you can dial your bikes and get the feel and balance you like. Your “opinions”, which are still welcomed, would be richer if you contemplated the intricacies of geometry, fit, body type etc. You may have just lost a fabulous looking bike, because you did not dial it as you like. Further, the sse has a lower stack, the sse has a minimally lower bottom bracket height, so, physically , makes no sense that it feels “top heavy” compared to the tarmac unless it was not properly setup for you.

@@DiabeticCycling well I’m 72 years old and always loved riding bikes since I was 10 years old. My R3 is fun and I also own a diverge and tried gravel. Man gravel kicks my butt and I can’t ride far, making my rides a lil boring. I guess I need a lil more comfort on my road bike since my butt muscles have just about melted away 😆 I’m thinking that if I get an sl8 or soloist with size 30 tires, that would add a lot of cush to my butt. We’ll see, if you say that the sl8 is like robotic, isn’t that good for the feel of the ride? Going faster with less wattage is always better yes? I always want to go faster myself so I can go further and see more. I did the Ms 150 rides for 15 years and it was always fun with my buddies. I gotta tell you it was fun riding 94 miles one day, eat bbq, drink beer (for da pain) then riding 80 miles the next day was a blast.

I think it might be the size he's riding. Frames smaller than a 56cm have a very shallow head tube angle, and even though the trail is the same, there is less weight on the front wheel than most other frames. 56cm frames and above have a more traditional head tube angle. Case in point - the 51cm frame has a longer wheelbase than the 56 cm frame.

I just stumbled onto your KZbin video and I find you, and your review very refreshing. You seem like you would honestly take on a new challenge. The challenge I want to present to you is clearly visible in the "first 3 seconds" of this video introduction. If you notice the fast spinning wheel is oscillating because the wheel has "No Rotational Balance". Fact is out of balance wheels create interrupted inertia which eats Watts like a big bowl of LuckyCharms. That said, I think everyone doing any kind of high performance comparison reviews should carefully balance the wheels first to level the playing field. The problem is aerodynamic tech on wheels have hit a barrier, so the next logical step to make aerodynamic wheels and bikes go faster is "BALANCE"! The reason wheel manufacturers avoid the subject is because they don't understand it and it's effects. Also they clearly don't know how to make a balance system that's 100% consumer, dealer, OEM and manufacturer friendly. Also there is no consumer demand, yet..... Frankly speaking wheel balance tech now, is just like aerodynamics was 30 years ago when I worked for the Japan Group. I would constantly ask ARAYA rim division to make aerodynamic shaped rims, only to be met with laughter and be technically ridiculed. Anyways, I'm going to e-mail you to give you some of my knowledge on the subject of wheel balance as I have been studying bicycle wheel balance for over 15 years. It would be nice to see someone like you be the first to fully understand this new technology and be the first review and introduce the added performance balanced wheels have to offer. By the way, I now live in Seattle, and from the looks of your video, that's Angeles Crest Hy in So Cal. When I was a Cat-1 I used to train all over that highway. Please look for my e-mail.
