Enfield Square Mall is a firmly dead mall that has been in limbo for several years now. However, that may soon come to an end as redevelopment finally comes in due time.

I grew up in Somers. My neighbor owned a pizzeria in the mall, “Nino’s”. I think I went there at least once a week for 10-11 years before moving to another state. Great memories of that place. Loved the arcade!!! Thank you for posting.

Woooow....I used to work at this mall in the mid-2000s. It was already well into its decline in both foot traffic and tenants when I was there, but crazy to see it so empty. Not surprised that it's reached this state, but still sad to see.

Yeah the security guards were assholes and would kick us out despite us being the ones that spent money there. They hated the teens that kept the mall alive.

You should interview anyone you see walking aimlessly or sitting down staring at their phone. I always wonder about the people who still go to the malls like these that are basically empty. Another great video. thanks for doing them.

Ill tell you as someone who goes regularly - other than target its dead dead. The theater shown here is no longer there, even when it was its waning years were practically vacant other than the odd blockbuster here and there and even then you could always find a seat. You could watch some big movies all by yourself. Weve been expecting it to close for years now, we dont even know how it made it even reached 2020 let alone "survived" the pandemic. Apparently something must be done with the whole mall soon as one of the dead anchor store's fire suppression systems is faulty so the fire marshal aint happy. Regardless its been depressing walking in the dead wing for a long time now as tenants were literally few and far between. Stores keep leaving and have mostly been vacant for some time. You see someone new pop up, usually a print show or craft shop attracted to cheap rent, and you know they wont be there the next year Target is literally the only part of the mall that has anyone regularly visiting. Hence why most were parked there and the dude dint walk over there

Oh, it's gone. Nothing but churches and daycares inside now, a couple of used videos game shops, a target, a GameStop. Nothing of real worth or interest. Sears has been gone for years now, Macy's has been empty and that part of the building should be condemned, what with the holes in the roof and ceiling. The theater shut down a couple months ago. It's a ghost town.

It's interesting to see as I still go here. Right where you entered, where the Halloween shop is, there's a card game store we go to play MtG. The mall looks so creepy though otherwise and I never go anywhere else in it.

Windows at the top of the main corridor let in plenty of light and make the corridor feel significantly more spacious. The side corridors, with entrances at the ends, look bleak with their low drop ceilings. It would be better if they were higher and the entrances opened more to the wide corridor. From the outside, the entrances look insignificant.

I remember going here all the time growing up. I'd tag along with my older brother and his friends and felt like one of the cool kids. There used to be 2 GameStops so if one didn't have the game we were looking for we'd go to the other. Half the time we'd cut thru Sears to get to the movie theater until it closed. Then I remember going to see Star Trek: Into Darkness at the Cinemark with my dad, we got pizza after (where the Kabab House was in this video) and I looked around and realized the mall was dead.

It'll be gone soon, to be replaced with hotels and smaller retail outlets, and a housing community if the new owner gets the grants from the state they've requested.

Amazon and the big box stores have ruined malls across the country. The owners have little to do with businesses not doing well and not wanting to rent out the space anymore.

I live a few miles from the mall. At the present time it is still open but is pretty much a 100% dead mall….other than the Target who owns their portion of the building and keeps it well maintained. Walking through the mall, the only stores still open is the Party City (which built their own outside entrance), a pop up church, a chamber of commerce office, and one or two craft and gift shops. Everything else is dead. Walking outside around the mall….other than the Target portion….there is no maintenance whatsoever, graffiti on walls, garbage dumped in loading bays, and out of control weeds. Very blighted property. Sooner or later the town needs to start dishing out fines or declare the property a hazzard and declare it unfit for occupancy. Interesting to note….very recently, the parking lot was being used to store unsold new cars awaiting distribution to the dealers. It gave the impression when passing on I-91 that business was booming with customers shopping at the mall…until you pulled in and discovered that every car was still shrink wrapped with dealer labels affixed.

It seems that none of the Companies that managed Enfield Square in the 2000s really gave a hoot about this Mall or its upkeep let alone security . Party Store ,The Cinema ,And Target also Bath & Body Works were all this Mall had left in it . Not to lovely . They are going to demolish this mall probably in 2025 sometime . The old Macy’s is already getting Vandalized and graffiti all over .

Next to gnc changed a bunch. Iirc there was a non tradition toy store and maybe a sport memorabilia shop. Bright start used to be an asain decor shop, rugs, trinkets, swords and knives etc. I think Bouley used to be Payless shows, pizza 3.14 was before the kebab house, next to claires.might have been a beauty shop like sallys or something. It's been a while, but that's the best I can recall
