I believe the true mages in this game are the battle-mages. Those mages that are also skilled melee fighters. When you have an int dex battle-mage that can deal damage just as easily from close quarters as well as long distance you have someone that as you say is very oppressive and if they are skilled enough they essentially can simply decide when the fight ends.

I’d heard that in ancient warfare there were basically 3 types of warriors: heavy infantry, projectile warriors and mounted cavalry. Each one of these balanced each other out - heavy infantry with their polearms could take down cavalry, projectile warriors could take down heavy infantry and cavalry could take down projectile warriors- not only because they were two swift for the archer to take proper aim but also as with the medieval period knightly armour was virtually utterly superior to arrow fire! Mages are projectile warriors and seeing as armour doesn’t do much against magic - we’re basically fucked. The gnomes are winning!

I think this is my second favorite boss in the DLC. I like her armor but I don't really care for her remembrance rewards. Also I really wanna learn to parry her, it looks like it'll make the fight more fun.

Hippo’s crit point confused me too, it looks like it’s on the eyeball on the side but actually you need to be facing down the length of the hippo, basically right in front of its face like any other boss. Worst boss so far for me. Been liking crimson seed talisman for this DLC! The extra healing is basically worth it all the time with the DLC damage output.
