lovely video! Can i ask if there are any safety issues at Dullstroom? Read that Johanesberg can be "rough". And Lastly, I believe there is only an outdoor 400m track (grassed) right? Planning for either Dullstroom or Flagstaff (Doing some research).
@VeraAndBobАй бұрын
hey! we didn't have any safety issues although there are warnings by the locals to not go to certain areas/be outside when it's dark/... I've never been to Johannesburg, only landed there and "immediately" left by car to drive to Dullstroom. there's indeed a 400m grass track around 25mins from Dullstroom, and a 400m track around 2hrs drive from Dullstroom. from the running routes/facilities/life around sports, I'd say I prefer Flagstaff. Dullstroom is great because for us, there's almost no time change and if we go there during our winter, it will be good weather. and it is much cheaper than Flagstaff.

How often do you do gym and for how long? Do you prefer to do it on the day of hard sessions or the day before/after? How do you adapt strength on race weeks?
@VeraAndBob2 ай бұрын
During normal weeks (with no race) I go to the gym twice a week. Once is a more standard gym session which lasts about 45mins. And on the other day I work with a physiotherapist and do gym work as well as smaller exercises focused on prehab/rehab. That session lasts around 1:30. I do my gym sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, where I only do easy running. Wednesday and Friday are our session days, but most weeks we „only“ do threshold on those days, so not that high intensity. On race weeks, I mostly only do one of those sessions (or sometimes none). :)

Ech fannen desen Format ganz gutt, well een Hobbysportler op des Art an Weis den Background, dei ganz Erausfuerderungen, Schwieregkeeten, Suergen an Gedanken mat op den Wee krit wou sech Topathleten maachen. Super! ; Ajo, den Audio ass 1A :)

Is having a track really that important? Id just take that flat road you showed us rather than drive 3 and a half hours for a session :D Otherwise, i too am glad theres more videos coming again although i once again have some catching up to do :D
@VeraAndBob9 ай бұрын
Depends on what time of year it is and what we are preparing. The flat road is ideal for everything we do to build the base. However, I was flying down from altitude and running a 1500m on the track the day after I arrived home. So it was important to at least run a bit at race pace on a track and in spikes. Thanks!
@agenthoini9 ай бұрын
@@VeraAndBob i see, spikes are indeed better suited to a track ;D

I did my 1st 5000m track race yesterday which was totally outside my comfort zone on distance and achieved my target PB by a nano second! Back to 3000m and my preferred 1500m in future 😊 How do you adjust to racing in such warm weather? You watch a race and don't appreciate how hard it must be until you've experienced it yourself. Well done Vera in your PBs of late 👏

It would be interesting to know how many miles/cross training hours you do? Does it change with camp?
@VeraAndBob Жыл бұрын
in the build-up I do around 115km/week, with no crosstraining sessions. I double with running on Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays. So during the camp, I just added two cross training sessions to put in more work but still do the same amount of mileage. I'm planning to go up in total volume over the next years but I have been doing maximum 90km/week for the past two years so we're slowly increasing mileage.
@laurenmillyx Жыл бұрын
@@VeraAndBob Wow that’s impressive! Is the cross training just easy effort/HR based? Does this reduce during the competition season? Sorry for all the questions!
@VeraAndBob Жыл бұрын
@@laurenmillyx exactly. It was HR based but just so it really is easy (staying below 135bpm). Yes the overall volume reduces by quite a bit during the racing season. No worries, ask away :)

They should install wifi in the rooms. It makes no sense to have rooms without internet since more time is spent in the rooms. Water is so basic, it should be available throughout. The owner of the camp should address these basic challenges.
