It's been a really long time since I saw the video where he told us he wasn't having too much success finding a job, so tonight at work I wondered how that was going for him and went over to his channel to see if there were any update videos about that. I am so excited and happy for him. Absolutely deserved. I think being interviewed by a CCIE OCG author that really understands Jeremiah's journey was one of the best things for him during his job search because that guy was able to see the great value in Jeremiah as an IT/networking professional, or should I say expert (as per the E in CCIE), that others just couldn't see in him. Best of luck man, I'm definitely going to miss the videos. Thank you for the simple, real, down to earth, normal videos that you gave us that inspired us even if that wasn't your main goal. Thank you.

Hi Jeremy, Im Sr Engr and theres a gap now in my skills, I learned CCIE about 2003 and until now im dreaming of achieving it and what stopping me for years is the advent of the cloud, automation and no guide just recently I learned how to do it but it feels im too late now at 41. Trying to be an architect or consultant but most of Companies are asking this belt.

The CCIE is a massive investment of time and money and there is no guaranteed payoff. Every person is different, so I do not feel comfortable making recommendations either for or against it.

@@madz1131 Sure, it's not a secret. I left IT in 2013 (though I did continue to due some minor work from time to time). When I finally got a job a few months ago I was 47 years old.

In my personal opinion, Orhun is not a particularly pleasant person and doesn’t come close to the quality of other well-known instructors. His accent also makes him difficult to understand. Regarding the Discord incident, I’m not surprised. Narbik’s classes, materials, and renowned "Chalk Talk" sessions far surpass Orhun's. Even though it's an official Cisco Press book, it promotes Narbik's personal training business (Micronics Training), which now offers online courses as well.

My issue is keeping all the content in my head for the exam. I know how it all works, but to sit down for a timed exam with all that content, I tend to lose a bit of it. Even practicing only goes so far.
@chrisgastАй бұрын
Damn. I was hoping it wasn't true, but I'm not surprised. Leaders are delusional in what it takes. Say, how were you able to become a network engineer earlier?
@jeremiahwolfeАй бұрын
I got in IT in ~1998. It was a different world back then. When the dot com boom hit, IT jobs were plentiful. Everyone and their brother were in IT, but so many were inexperienced and uncertified. By having my MCSE and CCNP, I was a rare breed with both server and network experience and certification. So even without a college degree, there was a period, early in my career, where I could pretty much name my price. Exciting times.
@chrisgastАй бұрын
@jeremiahwolfe so they were still able to get a network job, despite lack of experience and certification? Interesting.

I was looking to get this system with SFP 10Gb RJ45 adapters, due to the 10Gb Ethernet switches fan being so loud and this being fanless. It seems I’ll just install a Noctua fan in the Ethernet switch and get it from 24db to 18db, and be done with it.

I Have gone thru 4 IT Jobs, within 5 years. I never burn a bridge, always leave good impression and always try help and teach other IT guys, I never gatekeep information unlike a lot of IT people I know.... I have 6-7 people on speed dial I can depend on ! I also can get back to 2 old jobs in a heartbeat. Some of you might be wondering how come I don't stay too long at a job, the answer is I am claiming the money ladder, but there is also a hidden benefit. Every single IT job that I have been through , I have learned multiple unique skills. It has made me very diverse and very sellable on job interviews.

What I really liked to watch were your Certification exam reviews. Maybe if you can continue with that in the future would be nice.
@jeremiahwolfeАй бұрын
Do you know how much time, effort, and money goes into passing a certification? I'll certainly make a review each time I take an exam, but that will be once or twice a year. I was knocking them out before only because I was looking for a job and had the time or need.
@funny_dave7878Ай бұрын
Of course, I am talking only about if you do one exam and pass, if you then can do a short review about your study material etc.
@jeremiahwolfeАй бұрын
@@funny_dave7878 Oh, okay. Sure. I thought you were asking me to make a bunch of exam reviews. But yeah, if I take a test, I'll be sure to make a review. I'm not sure when or what will be next. My employer is real big on 60 hour work weeks and not very big on training or time for studying.

Running 10G with copper always generates a lot of heat. (it uses a ton more power!) We only run run fiber except in very specific situations and never to devices that use high throughput. (servers, storage devices, etc) The best course of action is to not use copper unless it's your only option. As you can imagine, a cheap 10G switch is likely not built to handle copper

Congrats on your success. Apologies if this is too personal a question, but what was the situation with being self employed and what made you decide to return to employment?
@jeremiahwolfeАй бұрын
Being self-employed is a nightmare. People love to romanticize it, but the truth is that over 90% off all small businesses fail within the first 2 years. And, of the 10% that make it past 2 years, only a fraction of those ever become profitable. (Or something like that, don't quote me on the stats.) When my wife got pregnant, my business was making money, so I was one of the very...VERY few who every make it that far. BUT it wasn't making much money, certainly not enough to raise a child and put them through college. Money aside, I worked a MINIMUM of 60 hours a week, every week FOR YEARS. The stress was so much I put on over 50lbs and developed a heart condition. Networking pays pretty well, and offers benefits like medical insurance. My self-employed medical insurance alone cost my wife and I ~$15,000 a year plus another $5000 if we actually used it. To add a child to that would be too much. And while I used to work a lot of hours in networking, I NEVER worked anything like when I owned my business.

Some scam channel called SPOTO copied this video. They took like 10 sentences out of context and posted it in an AI voice-over video with a click bait title of “how to pass CCIE in 3 months”. You should look up SPOTO and then that title and click the first video. Absolutely disgusting that someone steals content from someone like you and adds a click bait title and then gets more subscribers than a hard working professional like yourself
