I'm currently studying for the CCNP ENCOR and this is the exact realization I came to, and exactly what I had to tell myself to kick myself up the arse and begin actually doing it. Not only that but I realized I don't want to just be one of these Engineers that has a bunch of certifications but doesn't actually know how to do anything. So now I'm labbing my arse off in order to actually comprehend and integrate what I'm learning (instead of just reading, taking notes and memorizing, which I've done previously). Spot on, Jeremiah. I fucking love your sincerity and honesty Brother. And in a world full of fakes, how genuine you are stands out. Big time.

@@zachr93 The fact he failed the CCNP is kind of funny but one of his Discord admins is a decent guy (worked at Disney and some other big companies). I take all of those KZbin guys with a grain of salt and just see it as entertainment, though Chuck is a bit over the top.

True words. Younger techs and kids need to be careful with spiraling with the world of "help videos" on YT. It can literally become a procrastinating loop. You think you're learning stuff, but you're not. In the end, getting off your butt, get some books, read documentation, lab, etc. is the way to get stuff done.

Ah man , you speak what i was thinking about networkchuck, how the hell he couldn't manage to get the encor exam and all his experiece was couple of years as a help desk and may 1 or 2 years with voice or an emtry level job , But to be honest, the guy is very successful in terms of youtube , he know how to talk how to creat nice videos how to reach a lot of people, guy who has 20 years of it and great teachers like kevin walace, kwith barker, and Narbik don't have followers like networkchuck, Anyway thank you Jeremy for being brave and telling the truth in face to the young men who want to have a career in IT

Question Jeremiah, I saw you got the PCEP & PCAP certifications, can you tell me if they were remotely useful to you at any point in your career?

I got the certifications because I was learning Python anyway. Scripting has been HUGE in my career. My ability to script/automate has always set me apart from my peers. Python just happens to be the current tool that people are using. In the past I've used Perl, TCL, Shell and VBA. I've also built/modified some web based tools using PHP and JavaScript. Python is just one (very good) tool for automating on modern systems. It is my opinion that, as an engineer, one should always be looking for ways to automate their workflow or build tools to streamline their workflow.

You are right.. one thing we must remember that those 22 year olds are running a KZbin channel :) all they have to do is to talk convincingly on KZbin, get subscribers, get likes...that's it. Thanks for the great advise...
