My father built much of Norfolks sewage network in the 60's and 70's. When they were building Stalhams network they had to uncover trenches that had been recently filled as I believe they were looking for April Fabb who'd gone missing

There is a Buxton township in Ontario where 9,000 acres of land was set aside for the resettlement of African-American refugees escaping slavery in the United States.

Greetings! The Photos you use of Harlequin, Columbine, Pantaloon and Clown are from a group called The Stark Ravens Historical Players. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area in America! We perform annually at an event called the Great Dickens Christmas Fair. It is a wonderfully unique event where one steps into the very pages of Charles Dickens. The fair boasts hand crafted wares and several stages of entertainments. The Pantomime is performed in a historical Victorian manner upon the Victoria and Albert Stage. This season we are to perform Puss in Boots. Thank you so much for including us in your most excellent documentary of Pantomime. The cast has enjoyed it immensely. If you ever find yourself in San Francisco during the holidays, please come say Hello!!

Thank you ! I so enjoyed that talk. I'm currently listening to my first Sansom novel, Dissolution & I stumbled across your talk whilst googling things about Shardlake. I'm a Midlander & if I visit Norwich again ( only once thus far, 20 yrs ago) I will do so with " new eyes" and knowledge from this presentation. Vanessa was most enjoyable to listen to. 🙏 back to The novel now !

Hi , my grand father did 8 months Hard Labour when imprisoned in Norwich and he had to ‘walk the water wheel’ at the guildhall …Was this a temporary wheel or a early permanent item?. 1926..

It's a pity we cant put all that wasted water power into generating some hydro elecrticity, New Mills in the peak district have done a community project generation hydro electricty, surplying the local co-op, and any surplus electricity gets sold throught the national grid .

I am now a member of the society and really enjoy the videos and especially the webinar of the sewerage works in Norwich. I make short videos of interesting walks in Norwich with a splattering of historical facts to make them interesting. I am quite new to Norwich but I am really enjoying exploring the history on my walks. Please excuse my plug but this is a link to my "A Walk In..." Norwich series if anyone is interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/anucnHV4fNCkbtE

I was pondering, only the other day, why the Norwich Arts Centre/St. Swithins no longer had a tower. I assumed it was as a result of the raids during WWII...and then I learn today that its because of the sewage works. Brilliant.

Definitely a voiceover would improve it. Also slow it down a bit, it was a struggle to read all the text before it moved on.

Back in the early 80’s I took a temporary job at the Maids Head hotel and there were stories of a tunnel that once ran underneath Tombland from the hotel to the monastery. Never found out whether there was any truth in this, story was often embellished with an account of it being an escape route and that monks were once deliberately trapped down there?!

Another pub now closed and in residential use is the James I 39 Drayton Road (corner of Ropemakers Row). In the 70’s my parents would take me and my sister for a summer evening walk to Wensum Park then we would have a shandy at the pub. Between ‘79 and ‘82 my best mate at school lived there as his parents ran the pub. Ironically, in 1983 I joined my first pub darts team in the local Norwich leagues and yes, it was the James I, played one league season then we moved over to the British Legion on Aylsham Road

The Queens Arms on the corner of Edward Street and Magdalene Street was an absolute dive in the 80’s, you never went in there unless you looked homeless or part of the local thug/criminal element lol. I went in when it changed to the cafe many years later when I went to a gig at the old Anglia TV Studios

It`d be interesting to visit these places, i`ll make it my own mission. Thank you for increasing the awareness of them, and lets make no mistakes there are tunnels under the city leading to places, there is across the country. Our ancient city will be no different however as with all truth it is often mixed with a level of imagination and therefore somewhat obscured.
