I think if you have to ask, then the answer is no. Really no reason to deviate from proven deer cartridges - 3030, 3006. Don’t make deer hunting more complicated than it needs to be.

Glad to see this test. If I were spending the big money on an elk hunt I'd use a sturdier bullet. It has great sectional density but lost too much weight in simple gel. With hide, bones etc the bullet might not hold up.

The cross sectional density of the 30-30 round is why its such a reliable round inside 200 yards . . . which is why it is said to be the round which has taken more deer than any other round. It just dumped its energy into the target.

The zipper gun is good cause it’s cheap and gets guns into the hands of people that wouldn’t normally have them. And it sounds like a zipper when you run the bolt so you’ll never get bored😂

I think the the fusion loads are one of the best bang for your buck in ammo. Reasonably priced and great performance

Ive got a buddy thats used them on everything from deer to elk/black bear and has never had a problem, his son used them in 7mmstw until he could no longer get them.

Thank you! I am shocked. I thought the penetration would have been way deeper. The wound path and depth was marginally bigger than the smaller rounds. 😮 By smaller I mean the 6.5 Creedmoor 308 etc I used the similar 7 Mag 175 trophy bonded bear claw on whitetail and an impala in Africa and it dropped them all like Thor’s hammer.

Core lokt bullets kill game quick in my experience. About any bullet works when put in the right spot. The trick is knowing all the spots and being able to hit them.

Sure glad that Winchester smartened up some years ago and went back to the pre 64 action with the claw extractor.Its a beautiful gun.I had a Winchester classic in a 300 Win mag that some asshole by the name of Garry from Demit Alberta stole from me.

Served my country well through two world wars, korean war against communist chinese, vietnam war against communism and was used by tier 1 units in the GWOT. No other sidearm has seen more combat than the 1911 platform.

Unlike many of the more recent magnums, the 7 mm mag actual delivered in real life what it was supposed to and advertised to do - the premier long range elk cartridge with less recoil than the .300 magnums. It worked well on moose, caribou, mountain goat, sheep, and African plains game as well. Still does because today's elk are not tougher than the elk back when the 7 mm mag. came out. Regardless of what bologna the gun media tells us.

For elk hunting it is very possible that impact distance will be a bit more to a lot more than 100 yards. I would guess penetration will be more because of slower impact velocities too. I would easily use this load if I had a 7 Rem mag.

Thank you again for great coverage. I am a fan of 7 mag and I have been since mid 1980s. Good performance IMO. There is a lot of newer technology and higher BC but these would do what needs to be done on most anything in North America IMO.

I know this isn't popular with most hunters and shooters, but I don't care for, nor do I hunt or shoot anything less than .30 caliber. Even .30 caliber seems small for me as I prefer .358 and larger for hunting. This means my range flexibility is limited but I accept that. What can a 7mm Rem Mag do that a .30-06 can't? I killed my moose at 200 yards with a single shot from my .30-06 using the the plain jane Remington Core Lokt, 180 grain bullet. It's just personal preference. But, I enjoy watching the ammo testing with velocities, energy and expansion. Core Lokts aint sexy but they get the job done more often than not, compared to other more expensive, fancier sounding ammo that won't perform any better and many times perform worse than the old Core Lokts.

Ironic how lever-action leather shop dude forgot that PCC was a term that started with lever-guns in pistol calibres like the 44Mag, 357Mag, etc. Semiautomatic PCC’s… well now that makes economies of scale and magazine capacity sense in 9mm. I still love me a Winchester 1892 in 357 mag!

Police departments were given the M16, A4's, and M14 free. The M16 was changed to semi-automatic in many cases, SWAT teams got to keep the M16 and A4s with the selector switch. The ability to adapt a AR 15 or M16 is the better weapon becase of it.

If your bedside gun is a 308 win you live in a rough neighborhood. 😂😂😂
