By what right does the wolf judge the lion?? (Raging) by what right!!!???

I'm a big Catelyn fan, and feel like the showrunners didn't fully understand her character. As amazing as early GoT was, there were still some unnerving drops of misogyny sprinkled throughout. A change that irks me to this day is Catelyn being the one to try to talk Eddard out of accepting his position as Hand of the King. In the novel it's the exact opposite; Ned doesn't want to leave his home and is even in tears over it, which makes Cat feel bad. But she knows that it would be a potentially catastrophic political misstep to turn down the king of the Seven Kingdoms. As much as I like Catelyn, I agree she should've stayed in Winterfell. In fact, ladies of noble families historically were charged with ruling their castles while the lord was away. Would've loved to see a plot like this, but I think what was so effective in getting her to King's Landing is that her own sister who she trusted was a part of the deception.

Great comment! I agree that the books did that conversation way better, especially since we get Cat’s internal monologue the entire time. Its cool how she absolutely dreads being separated from any of her children but she ends up willingly letting 3 of them go for the sake of their futures. Really puts into perspective how selflessly she loves her children and the sacrifices she’s willing to make for them. And yeah DandD let slip a few hints in early seasons that they weren’t on the same page as George when it came to representing women. It gradually becomes more prevalent as the show progresses so i’ll probably open that can of worms in a season 2 video.

fun fact, tywins battle armor for one scene (can’t remember which) was a cosplayers recreation of that armor from previous scenes, the original got unintentionally damaged and the cosplayers replica was so accurately remade that the prop department reached out to borrow it. Secondary fun fact I made that up.

I’ve always thought of Cat’s decision to go to King’s Landing herself to be one of those times where she makes rash and unwise decisions because she fears for her children. I think that is totally in character for her.
@SaintWombo2 күн бұрын
It’s a lot of needless risk. Especially when she opts for the Kingsroad instead of sailing and she WANTS to go alone. Thats a small change which makes this move way more risky for no other purpose than the writers didn’t think about it, which means Kat didn’t think about it. I don’t think she’s dumb enough to be in that situation and not weigh the better options that she has, especially when the choice she makes means abandoning her house’s castle for two months, along with three of her children, two of them being the youngest and one being in a coma.

I actually completely buy the fact that nobody has thought of a saddle for cripples. Westeros isn’t very welcoming to people it deems outside of their cultural norms which includes cripples so most people would just never bother inventing something like that. This includes the Citadel, which, while brilliant, end up perpetuating the status quo in Westeros more often than not. As for Tyrion being the one to “invent” it tho, it is a bit odd . I think the idea of it being basically concept art as you point out isn’t too far off and Tyrion has brought it forward to open the mind of the Maester Luwin rather than creating a technical marvel.

I was under the assumption (probably just from Brans comments in late seasons now that i think about it) that wheelchairs had been created for royalty a couple times before, so i figured Lumen would be aware of that and not so quick to discount the possibility of Bran riding a horse. But yours is a fair read, and probably better supported by the text and earlier seasons. And as you mentioned it demonstrates Westeroses neglect towards the different and in-need, so it works pretty well for the theme and world building

I also love Bobby B, but he would 100% meet the dothraki in battle on the open field. He is sick of being a king and tells Ned how he would love to leave it all behind and tour Essos as a sellsword, and the thought of Joffery on the throne is what keeps him from doing that. He is impatient, bold, and fearless, and i doubt he would have the patience to sit inside the Red Keep waiting, when there is a enemy to be slain nearby. Also the thought the singers making songd of him being the king who unified the 7 kingdoms to meet over 100 000 dothraki in open battle and defeat them would be to tempting for him to pass. The story of Robert is kinda tragic imo, a perfect warrior who lost the love of his life and is then forced to leave behind his warrior ways, and instead rot on the throne counting coppers, and only because he was distantly related to the same dynasty that kidnapped Lyanna.
@SaintWombo10 күн бұрын
I should have been more clear, i was saying that the idea that “Robert is fool enough to meet them in open battle, but the men advising him are different” is inaccurate, at least as i interpret it. Robert says himself in Ep 5 that meeting the Dothraki in an open field IS foolish and he wouldn’t be eager to try. But he explains why it would probably be the only option left if the Dothraki ignore the castles and start to pillage the countryside. Jorah makes it sound like Robert would meet the Dothraki in an open field and never expect to lose

Another solid entry :) I’ll be interested in hearing your thoughts and analysis on Varys as the show progresses. I thought him creepy with how he hung out with little kids and had the nickname Spider. Of course I later felt bad for thinking ill of him. Not too many good guys in Kings Landing, but he could certainly qualify imo.
