Game of Thrones proper was one of the best shows ever made and Blackwater is one of the best episodes in the series. It deserves some love so here it is. Apologies for the varying audio quality, this is a supercut of my first two videos.

Blackwater gets outshined in the eyes of most fans by the bigger battles in the later seasons, but it remains my favorite of all the on-screen battles. This and the battle at Castle Black are probably the only times when both sides have characters that we don't want to see lose or die.

@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116tbf none of the warfare in any of the seasons makes sense. Look at black water, the troops are just running at the wall with no formation, just eating arrows for fun. The Lannisters have essentially all of their troops outside of their massive walls. On top of that, defenders in real life usually did a whole lot more. It wasn’t uncommon for defenders to actively make their walls bigger/taller if they knew shit was gonna go down. My biggest gripe in the entire series is that everyone seemingly uses swords for battle. Spears (with a backup shirt sword) dominated warfare for most of history because they work so well in a formation and keep distance from the enemy front line. The loot train honestly had the most reasonable troop placement out of it all. They actually used a shield wall with spears, and held their ground while archers went ham. In real life they’d absolutely not have lines so thin (iirc just one troop thick) but they didn’t know they were being attacked so whatever. GRRM is a great world builder, but even the battles in the books are pretty rough to read. Hearing about people fighting single combat in the middle of a massive battle makes me want to not read it at all.

Regarding Ser Mandon Moore, there is a theory that he tried killing Tyrion for revenge in his involvement in the Trial by Combat against Ser Vardis Egan, as Ser Mandon personally knew Ser Vardis, both being from the Vale and the latter being a member of Jon Arryn's personal guard.

D&D truly gave a shit about George’s vision in the early seasons and it shows. They wrote so many episodes that are critically acclaimed that they were responsible for (at least with their writing) I always rewatch the series and wonder how it could’ve went so wrong with so many bangers under their belts. I feel like season five was the beginning of the end for them. After the backlash to the braavos plot line, but with astounding ratings in lieu of it, They realized they can write whatever they want without any repercussions from a fan base that largely didn’t read the source material.

@@soulbrother1143 I have to disagree on every single point you made. 1 a spear is perfect for a dwarf. It gives him reach in combat dwarves lack reach. Spears are naturally armor piercing especially for chain mail plus spears can get into those vulnerable cracks in armor. Spears are probably the most simple and easiest to master of all weapons. It takes far less training to master a spear over a bow or sword or axe. That's why spears have been the main weapon of foot soldiers for thousands of years from the stone age to fire arms.

I wish they had the budget to do the bridge of ships. In the books the battle goes more or less exactly the same way, only instead of Tyrion leading a charge at the gates, he leads a cavalry charge across a bridge of broken and burning ships that Stannis' men are using to cross the Blackwater. Such a badass fight, a lot of similarities to the many sieges of Constantinople, particularly the 717 siege.

@@brendano4196 it would’ve been too costly and I understand why they did it. Movies and TV have a habit of butchering battle scenes. Just count all the movies with flaming arrows in them. They just don’t understand historical battles. That was made apparent with the last 3 seasons of GoT. All the battles were terrible. Poorly thought out. Just going for “spectacle”.

Absolutely love Blackwater! 😍 The scenes with Cersei and/or Sansa, two of my top characters, are always a joy to watch. And as a fangirl of both Stannis and House Lannister, there's just so much here for me! Once got too stoned and muted and synced the episode to my favorite album, Razorblade Suitcase by Bush. In that state of mind it was a transcendent experience. x)

Wow what a treat to find your channel so early in its life! I thought for sure I was watching a video made by someone with hundreds of thousands of subs based on the editing quality and the brilliant script. I’m fully behind you brother even if I can only help by liking sharing and subscribing, and commenting of course , I hope it helps in some way. If you keep up putting out content like this you’ll hit 100K subs in no time I promise! God bless you and Merry Christmas mate, here’s to your hard earned future success!!lll

I know it'd be hard to do, but without the Chain Tyrion has built to block the river, it just seems like a simplistic plan.

8:26 the fact that george didn’t write this scene makes one of the most confusing things about the show make more sense to me. I’ve always wondered who that was that came into the pub or brothel or whatever with the hound and sat with him. What kind of absolute killer must this guy be that the hound would want to hang out with him ever, let alone right before they were to fight for their lives?
@SaintWombo
@SaintWombo 5 ай бұрын
Great question, and i’m not entirely sure of the answer. The Hound technically isn’t a knight but he probably still needs help with putting on his armor, so i’m guessing the guy following him around is his unofficial “squire” who helps him with his gear. I think the same guy brings Sandor wine later in the battle.

"And I've seen other writers try" I think this is the most important thing when discussing Weiss and Benioff. They, by accident, did a WAY more thorough job ruining all the the characters in their show than other writers who have TRIED to ruin the characters in their stories. Like at least turning Luke Skywalker into a sad old man who's completely given up after he did a total 180 on literally his entire worldview from the original trilogy, for NO reason, at least the writers did that on purpose. They wanted Luke to suck so we'd have an easier time accepting Rey, his replacement. But for all the faults of that, at least they INTENDED to ruin Luke. They had a task and they did it. And as horrible as that is, it's more respectable than Benioff and Weiss just deciding to ignore GRRM and refuse more seasons from HBO (Benioff likely using his daddy's influence to ensure other writers didn't get to take over), rushing to show to its end and believing they were just so amazing that it was all going to be fine despite the insane hurdle they just put in front of themselves.

About the Stannis point. Stannis is a Baratheon, his brother was the demon of the trident and the man that vanquished Rhegar. His family is noted for martial prowess, and this is a man who held storm's end for a year, starving and being forced to eat dogs before Davos came, and if it weren't for him, he'd of had his men eat the dead before letting the castle fall. Basically, Stannis is a tough man from a tough family of fighters, soldiers, warriors, and commanders, and its reasonable for him to be in the thick of the action.(He still probably should have worn a helmet).

The only reason they gave tyrion a helmet is because they thought he was easy to recognize with it on, since hes the only short man on the field. They dont trust us to recognize characters with helmets

Blackwater is my favourite episode by far. All thriller, no filler, much killer. There's not a scrap of fat on the entire episode, and it's got peak Hound Scottish Swearing (tm). Stannis being the Mannis, Cersei being complicated, Peak Tyrion, Nadir Joffrey (prophetic "The bad ones always survive," from Sansa). The direction is as close to perfect as possible (THIS IS HOW TO DO A NIGHT FIGHT). 10/10 11/10 on the Spinal Tap scale.
