Thank you for this video. We are new to the art of karate 🥋 and this is what we hope our children gain from traditional teachings.

Thank you for posting this video . My son who is 6 years old now has been a student of Goju Ryu karate since he was 5 years old. At the time of enrollment I wanted him to learn the discipline , physical fitness routine and understand that any martial art is a way of life rather than a subject or class . But his classes dont include theory sessions. My son and I watch your videos to understand the theory behind kata and kumite . Its very helpful. Thank you 🙏

Ah, what a beautiful message to receive! I'm sorry I'm getting to it so late. We're so happy that you find so much value in our little channel! Our son has also only been on this path for a short time, and it is our hope that he sees it as a way of life, rather than a way to get medals and score points on people. Thank you for watching and commenting - we appreciate you!

Great video. I really enjoy your channel. My wife and I are taekwondo practitioners from a traditional style dojang. Keep up the great content! Thank you.

And SA not only won, but beat the famous "All Blacks"! Congrats! The traditional values of karate as espoused by Masters Miyagi and Funakoshi are timeless, super valuable, and are what, I think, will keep karate-do relevant. And charities such as Martial Heart and Fair Fight. Better physical health, better mental health, better citizenship, better life, better countries, personal protection. Sports careers are fleeting, no matter how successful. LOVE this format. You two are amazing individuals but more amazing as a couple. Would love to see same format where Che talks about his time in the states, what is was like, what he thought of the US where he lived, the people, culture, etc... Have a great weekend!

I think you are the only one who loved this format - this video bombed like a bad comedian 😅😅😅 For all the points you mention, traditional karate will always be at the heart of what we do, but also taking the valuable bits of sport karate with us. Overall, though - the benefits of old school karate are timeless and amazing, and we are so grateful to experience and share them with so many people ♥️

I always thought of combat competition as something that could be done in different levels of intensity depending on the people, for example point competition to full contact no protection. Different strokes for different strokes. For example, you can't expect a parent practicing martial arts before cooking dinner for their kids to compete Bloodsport style, but it's still ok for them to practice and learn. My issue with point Karate is the sheer number of medals given out. I NEVER agreed with that, and still don't. It's almost like getting a medal for showing up.

Every time we get a Bloodsport mention in the comments, a Gen X gets their wings 😁 Our belief is that a dojo should be a place for people of all abilities and levels of interest - I don't know where this obsession came from that everything has to be either practical all the time, or for honour and glory. Why can't we just be normal people enjoying karate for the sake of it? Thank you for this lovely and insightful comment ❤️

I'm kind of surprised that tournaments are bad for karate business. I thought it actually is a main selling point, at least in my country, because in our Goju-ryu dojo we had a top sensei (kyoshi at Jundokan So Honbu!) but no tournaments; and children (no matter what age on their ID, might be in late 20s) are not interested (no fun, no medals, nothing to brag about) and all flock to Kyokushinkai (Shin-kyokushin and Shidokan) or Shotokan (including Fudokan or ITKF). I was even suggesting to have some kind of our own competitions in kata and kumite (more of WKF style, which is Olympic now) among our dojos to attract more students and to earn something extra from these events, too, but it felt on deaf ears. Probably it depends on mentality as even our girls, when they start to attend gyms, tend to be promptly enrolled in some kind of competitions like fitness, bikini or whatever they like to show their glutes on stage as they were training (sic!) and here are their results (look!). While I'm getting close to a "proper man" age (tomorrow I'll be 53) and which is from 60 years old in Okinawa (until that you're still considered a teenager...), I see karate as a way to compete against myself only: my laziness, my weaknesses, my excuses to quit, etc. (couldn't compete against my urge to comment, of course, still need to work more perhaps, must go to hang on a sidebar... I mean, do pull-ups, not to swing on the end of the rope like a pirate in the Wapping docks, ahrrr... I mean, osu). :o)

It seems to work for many dojos in the short term, but those students don't stay once the medals dry up. But we have seen its massive appeal, and like you mention, we often lose girls at a faster rate to dance and gymnastics, because there is applause, medals and praise, and none of that in the dojo (especially not the praise, this is not your mother's house) Your comments continue to be a bountiful reward for producing content. Never ever hesitate to share! Also: happy super belated birthday! May your health be abundant and the karate mischief endless 🎂 Apologies for the appallingly late response - finally catching up on comments now that the dojo is closed

@@GojuRyuKarateCentre thank you very much for your wishes! You've been busy lately with a good cause so it's understandable and I've been sick with COVID-19 again but mildly this time (four days of headache and two days along them with a terribly sore throat that made me drink an amount of tea that would flood Venice). :) I wonder why Zoe hasn't quit for dances... it might be something with Che, like love is in the air or a very handsome guy (with curly hair etc). Or she's tried but got disqualified due to her thug tattoos and because she'se knocked judge out on the dance floor with her mawashi-geri (we all saw that clip with high heels, no alibi now!). :)
