BEAKS BAG: With the Dally M set to be revealed in a couple days (we should know now if Hughes was robbed), should the Dally M be changed and how should it be done? An example could be going back to 1, 2. 3 points but everyone in the game gets graded. 0 for bad to average games, 1 for good games, 2 for great games and 3 for a man of the match game. Might be good for the battlers like Edwards, Haas and To'o who always put up 8/10s but never get the chance for dally M. How would you change it? (Watch it be perfect this year since I commented on Monday before this year's results)

Its not neccesarily true that Collins wouldve missed the GF. Roosters already had one instance this year with Sam Walker where they got a Grade 1 overturned to a Grade 2 and therefore waived the 11 day stand down. There is every chance the Roosters could've pushed for that and may have gone through considering it was a Grand Final. BC as much as a Doctor wants to classify a head knock. If the player stands there and say they were never knocked out then you can't prove they were

Repeat offenses isn't "luck" or lack thereof. Its us a reflection of habit or poor technique and shows there wasn't any effort in changing. It has nothing to do with size. Payne Hass is huge too and doesn't even have a quarter of Nelson's record. Size is just an excuse. He needs to improve his tackling technique.

What about kick offs from the 30m line and 7 tackles for the first step?
@mrpattyyboyy6666
@mrpattyyboyy6666 47 минут бұрын
i think the easiest way to fix the kickoff is to make it the same rules as a standard kick. if you catch it in your ingoal you get to run out to your 20 with 7 tackle set. this means that the kickoff is preserved and the kickoff would be landing at around the 6-12 metre mark to ensure that no 7 tackle set is given away. this reduces the distance between the big front rower and the advancing defensive line. i feel like the majority of the huge hits happen around that 0-10 metre line. so reducing that distance by even ten metres would make a huge difference. let me know your thoughts fellas.

Hey Kempy, you’ve been bringing it up for a few weeks now to dissect teams but I’m not sure your interpreting the VB hard earned index correctly. The index itself is not a true indicator of “the tough stuff” as much as it is a measurement of how dominant a team is. Whilst the index does measure things like tackles, tackle breaks and other gritty things, the index itself is scaled. This means that when a team is being dominated on the scoreboard, as the roosters were by the storm, the VB scores for all the roosters players are scaled down. So the same player can have the same raw score, meaning they made the same tackles, tackle breaks, etc. but they can have wildly different scores based on how many points behind they are. If you look at the Instagram posts by fox and the NRL detailing the VB teams of the week, there’s actually a scorecard that details the criteria for the team. In this scorecard you can see that when a team is 1 try behind, they score is scaled down by 5% so that they only receive 95% of the raw score. When a team is 4 or more try’s behind they only receive 80% of the raw score. So it is not an accurate measurement of how well each team is working hard. That being said, if a member of the losing team is in the top 5 of the index and their team is being dominated, it probably means that player is working super hard and doing all the tough things and making no errors.

100% agree. The storm looked way better, they even beat the roosters more dominantly aswell with more against them aswell compared to Penrith. I’m a roosters fan too and can unbiasly say the Storm are the better team and are gonna win the gf imo. More cohesive, their attack looks a lot better, and their defence is not far off Penriths. Along with beating them twice this year and they just have more in the tank imo with more weapons throughout the backline and foward pack. Storm are gonna win

Punishments have two reasons. Retribution and to deter a behaviour. It seems childish to argue that because Collins wouldn’t be able to play for a medical reason, NAS shouldn’t play. Suspending NAS this week doesn’t deter the behaviour because it was just an unlucky kick off high tackle. There was no intent, it was just shut luck. His technique was justifiable. The NRL needs to be fair dinkum if they actually want to avoid these knocks and just change kick off procedures to something like a contested drop kick or a scrum start.

I think the kickoffs will be similar to NFL kickoffs. Call for a mark/fair catch off the kick off and play the ball off that mark and if it goes too deep and you catch it in goal you start the set from the 20. I think itll bring in contested kickoffs just like the short dropout. Itll also bring in accuracy, landing the ball inside the 10 and forcing them to call a mark

NAS is being punished for his size and power which is a joke. If someone like Cleary makes chest to head contact and knocks someone out I dont think he would even get sent to the bin. Look at Critta hit to RTS, Shoulder charge direct to head,Bad optics and ref didnt even want to give the penalty originally. Told RTS to play the ball when he was still down. Even as an storm hater I hope he plays. Bash bros v Nas is a real clash of the titans the fans want to see

RE: Grand Final suspension, while the Taylan May suspended sentence was a joke, the main argument was that it was for an off field transgression that happens much earlier in the year and the punishment was handed out late, so the point was "why would he miss a final when if it was punished at the time it'd be regular season games at the time of the transgression". Doesn't really translate for NAS imho.

One option with the kick-off is keeping the long kick, but it's a "fair catch" wherever the ball's caught (say on the 10 metre line) and tackling the catcher isn't allowed. But then the game stops as the defence trots down the field to restart play. And all the momentum from the kick-off is lost. There's no perfect solution and there will be a huge adjustment period if it's changed (which seems almost inevitable now).

Unfortunately because of Broncos poor management it will he an almost unwinnable spot for Madge as coach. From a lot of fans perspectives it was wrong the way they sacked kev especially only 12 months after almost winning a grand final, so a lot of fans will already be offside, ex players are offside from the poor treatment. If madge doesnt get top 4 in the first year in charge it will basically feel like a failure. If broncos don't get top 4 with madge in charge, what was the point in sacking kev the way they did. I genuinely believe broncos under kev would have been in finals minimum next year, most likely top 4. Its almost top 4 or bust for madge. If he doesnt get it, what happens. We arent in a rebuild, team is young and full of guns. The poor management has killed broncos. From sacking wayne bennett, to signing an unproven coach in seibold for huge money and a long contract who got us a spoon, to signing kev and building back from the spoon to a gf, to then sack him unfairly less than 12 months later.

He did play amazing, I just thought Cleary was better in a tighter game. Set up 3 tries in a closer game that his team only scored 4 tries in. Was close until he blew it away with big plays. 2 of Hughes trys were in support or against a retreating defence in a 3 on 1. He was amazing mate, no doubting that but Cleary was also unreal and in my opinion had a bigger role in his teams victory. Not like I'm anti Hughes haha been saying for 3 months that he's the best player of 2024 by a distance.

You're acting like I'm trying to take something away from Hughes haha they were the two best ball players of the weekend, I'd just have Cleary slightly ahead. The 40/20 turned the Penrith game's momentum, he then laid on the try that next set. Set up the To'o try with individual brilliance to put them up 14-6, then had a LB into a try assist to Alamoti to put them clear in the game. Cleary ran for 100 more metres, missed less tackles, had less errors, kicked for more metres. Once again both were fantastic, I just thought Cleary was slightly better.

I don’t understand why Penrith benefit from NAS’s actions. Deal with it as much as you can within the game to actually benefit the team affected. Sinbin in a prelim was sufficient Also, why does the injury to Collins carries so much weight? Does anyone think Whitehead should be suspended for 9 months because he did Brandon Smiths ACL? Injuries should be factored in but if Sam Walker does the exact same tackle on NAS - can almost guarantee its just a penalty and he wouldn’t even be fined. Grading should be based on risk of injury and not just punish guys because their arms are bigger than most peoples legs.

I love Madge, but I think this hindsight of “he was actually doing a decent job at the Tigers” is bit of a stretch. The biggest issues that Madge had at the Tigers was that he was far too relentless and overtime his ability to get the best out of his players became untenable. He also had a horror run of recruiting players, specifically within player circles, players warned other players against being a player under his coaching. Tactically he didn’t really have an identity of what he wanted the team to do, season Madge was sacked he started off 0-7 and the big thing was “what is this team’s identity?” We can apply what we’ve seen since and talk about how he’s improved. But that’s as a rep coach, which is totally different, it’s short term, so players aren’t being pushed beyond their limits and as Madge says, it’s with the best players in the world. I think Madge’s best coaching position is rep football, he’s proven that he’s good at that.

The older boys from the broncos come out in defense of their mate which is admirablem but the fact is the broncos have only played finals once in the four years Kevie was coach. They also dropped the ball hard in 2022 when they slippef from 4th to 9 with 6 rounds to go. Last year they literally handed the title to penrith with 15 min to go. This year they had a shocking middle part of the year losing 6 in a row. Furthermore, his signing in recent times have been shocking. Bringing in Jayden Hunt, Fletcher Baker and Gogevski. Lets not forget his decision to not play the origin stars in a must win game. The amount of terrible decision that happened with him at the helm proves he is nowhere near NRL level as a coach. In the words of Cobbo he is a great bloke but not a good coach.
