Could you tell me how to add fx or eq my recording while I'm tracking before the final mix down record. I hope I explained it right. Thank you so so so much for doing these explanations.
@sugarcanerush3 күн бұрын
Thanks for listening! The L12 does not record effects or EQ from the board to the tracks recorded on your SD card or direct to the DAW. You can listen to the effects or EQs on the board only to monitor using the headphones or the main speakers. You can record a stereo mix to the "Master" channel which will include any Effects or EQ that you have applied on the board. So you can have a stereo mix with the effects on the board recorded to the Master track. But the individual tracks will not record effects or EQ only compressor. I hope this helps, Subscribe if you haven't already and check out our music playlists on the channel!

Awesome video. I understand compression better. However, for the Livetrak L12, I am still not sure where to use and how much to use in a live gig setting. Maybe on the vocals and bass? The other instruments like guitars and keyboard, we want to hear the range. What settings should I use?
@sugarcanerush9 күн бұрын
Thank you for listening, I am glad it helped you understand compression a bit better! Compression is one of those things that you just have to try experimenting with it and listening to see what you like. The compressor on the L12 is limited in its settings but useful. What the compressor is essentially doing is reducing the high peaks that might overload the channel and allowing you to bring the signal up. I use it on the bass, the snare drum and vocals. Not all the time and not in all of them but when I want a track to cut through the mix, I apply it slowly and listen to how it affects the sound. On the board, as you turn up the compressor knob, it lowers the peaks and brings the makeup gain up to make the sound of the signal louder. Try it, experiment and listen, it can't hurt, and you can always turn it back down! Keep coming back and listen to our music playlist as well as the tutorial playlist that we have.

@@sugarcanerush One quick question... I've used sonar/cakewalk forever, since version 6PE. The reason I ended up on your video is because I've always had issues with panning. I make "pop" music. For the most part I use a workstation synth for most of my production, and some samples here and there. I tend to not go beyond 50% panning on anything, cause it just sounds off to me in my cans. But when I go for mastering, it comes out bad. When I try to remedy this in the mix by panning wider, everything feels disjointed and the track loses it's cohesion. Any tips?
@sugarcanerush18 күн бұрын
@@Hive5ive I have used Cakewalk since the beginning also, great program! I'm trying to figure out why you are having problems. The first thing that comes to my mind is the source of your tracks. If your synth is sending you stereo tracks, those are more difficult to pan. Sometimes the synth already separates left and right. When I get stereo tracks like that, I try to just pan a bit on either side. What are you using to master? There are some plugins that help to widen the stereo field as a whole. Last thing I can think of is signals being out of phase, they tend to cancel each other and make the program sound more mono. My public email is [email protected] if you like you can send me an MP3 stereo mix that you find with problems, and I can give it a listen. Stay in touch and let me know if you figure out the problem.

@@sugarcanerush Hey Sorry I didn't see your reply sooner, I didn't get a notification for some reason. Yeah, I usually track everything in mono. For the "A" headphone jack, if you have the button underneath the volume knob pressed, you will hear "A" mix, if you have the button up, you will hear the Master mix. Are you using powered speakers? Do you get sound from any other source? You should be plugged in to the computer using the USB cable. Make sure the switch in the back is on "Audio Interface". Make sure the drivers for the zoom board are installed properly. You should see them in Cakewalk if they are. Make sure the "USB 1-2" or "USB 3-4" button is red. If not press it until it turns red. Make sure your faders are up and that the "Fader mode" is set to "Master" check the master fader also. Good idea to bring the faders all the way down and then up to be sure they are active. What a great video. Thank you. So we use an L-20 Mixers, same board just more inputs. One thing is we used the 17/18 to add our keyboard, however we cannot adjust the gain on those. Is there a trick to make this better? Or should we waste a track say 15 and 16 and separate the keyboard and pan left and right? Or would you recommend just bringing a mono sound in and use one track like all the other instruments? Thanks for any insight
@sugarcanerush3 ай бұрын
Michael, the stereo channels that have the two inputs, work well for keys, synth and any stereo instrument. What I do is have the musicial play and control the input from their instrument's master volume. Monitor the LEDs coming in and get the best level possible. That should work. It's how I have recorded keyboards many times. If you have enough channels and want more control, it's ok to use two of the mic/line imputs and control with the gain know. Just remember to pan one to the left and the other to the right when mixing. For recording it won't matter. I hope this helps. Check out our latest video on raising the volume of our mixes.
