I’m not kidding when I say this, I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone’s custom animatronic that is literally on par with the likes of CEI, Creative Presentations, all those companies. Heck this even beats a crud ton of VP’s characters too. I can’t express how pumped I am once the cosmetic parts start happening! And regarding the springs, I’m assuming they were intended to be for some sort of secondary movement like a hip shake or something? I know some characters from varying companies have a little bit of flop in some areas to make them look less stiff

@@Sea_of_Waves thank you, this means a lot. My goal is to make my animatronics as professional as possible, to hopefully turn it into something one day. I have put a ton of work into this figure alone, and I’m happy to finally get to start showing it again. Under what circumstances would you recommend using servos over pneumatics?
@Siryappington-42113 күн бұрын
depends on the motor strength and the weight of the load but usually like a small servo (ex: 9g) would be good for lightweight plastic or cardboard but it depends in most cases
@collegetoycollector13 күн бұрын
@@ethanfishell1930 a lot of factors: scale, material, precision of movements, application. A life size animatronic character will have movements that need the strength of a linear actuator to work effectively. Servos are good for small movements that need precision, but they are not as strong as linear force.

Are there places I could use a milling machine? Did you buy one? Or is there a place you go to that has one?
@collegetoycollector27 күн бұрын
There are machine shops that you can have memberships to, you can look up ones around your area. You typically need to be an adult and go through training to be certified to use certain machines. They tend to be very strict on safety as well, which makes sense.
@ethanfishell193027 күн бұрын
@@collegetoycollector I'm in my late 20s, so that's no problem. When you say training, are we talking a couple months of training or a couple years?
@collegetoycollector27 күн бұрын
@ It’ll probably be only a few weeks at maximum. I get all my machine shop training through my engineering education, so I’m not entirely sure how it is outside, but it’s definitely not years. Machines are very dangerous if you do not know how to use them safely, so that’s why you are required to have some form of certification to use them. Hope this helps! I can talk more about it in a future video if that’s of interest.

Holy cow. The amount of time and measurements that have been put into these part and move designs must’ve been absolutely insane. The best products are the ones that are well thought out and planned, I think it’s safe to say that you’ve got a BRIGHT future with your engineering projects. Looking forward for Atlas’s further development!
@collegetoycollectorАй бұрын
@@Sea_of_Waves thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I put a lot of time into designing things because I want them to be the best they can be within my capabilities. A lot of the true work goes unnoticed b/c it’s all measuring and making spreadsheets and models on the computer. Just about every part and mechanism I design gets redesigned over-and-over, until it’s “perfect”. I look forward to Atlas being finished, I want to show people what he can do! Who knows what else I’ll end up experimenting with in the future 😊
@ethanfishell193026 күн бұрын
@@collegetoycollector Who is Atlas, as a character? Do you have drawings of Atlas? Is he/she an original character?
@collegetoycollector26 күн бұрын
@ Atlas is one of my own characters, a part of a band called “Mesozoic Mayhem”. As time continues (and as I get more space), I plan to have this entire band a reality in my house, or if I partner with someone who runs a business. Atlas is the character I am building right now. The band is punk-rock, and they are catered towards an adult audience, but anybody can enjoy them. I have concept sketches of every character, both their appearance and mechanism designs. I need to make fully finished paintings of them at some point though, so that their appearance is fully fleshed out.

I have a question, if atlas’s eyes are on the front of his head, and dinasuars are on the sides, how thats gonna work?

@@cec_oregon good question, I most likely will end up redesigning the head to account for the eyes being slightly more recessed. They still will be facing forward, but not leveled like you mentioned.
