Thank you for the video, but don't build fires. Leave no trace and a fire ring greatly increases impact. Others come and do the same and the site gets more and more degraded with more damage to the soils and the forest floor gets stripped of nutrients.

Thanks man. Yeah I had a fitness journey last year and dropped 40 pounds. I was at my leanest I've ever been right after that trail too. Man I've never hiked so cold and one night got down to I think 16 degrees. I didn't have a bivy but you might have noticed my quilt when I was cowboy camping. My sleep system for that hike was a 40 degree enlightened equipment apex quilt, a gossamer gear 1/8" pad, and 6 sections of a z lite pad. With below freezing temps on the forecast, I was lucky to pick up a sleeping bag liner in Tahoe City while I resupplied. And my shelter was the lanshan 1 without the bug net

@@joeyallenoutdoors9086 40lbs! That's awesome! Ah I see I thought the Apex was a the outside of a bivy. Dang that's really pushing it with those temps. Especially with the foam pads. Glad you made it out fine lol. I'm thinking of using just the outer of the Lanshan 1 along with a bivy for inclement weather. I've been getting used to tarp & bivy camping and fastpacking these days. Glad you're getting out with some long hikes. Good to see you posting videos.

@rodoutdoors thanks man. Yeah that night below freezing sucked. I've been in those temps with a 20 degree quilt and a much more insulated air pad and was cozy but I expected late summer conditions. What kind of bivy do you use?

@@joeyallenoutdoors9086 Yeah that sounds brutal with a 40 deg quilt & foam pads. I don't think I've been in 16 degree weather and I'm sure I would be cold in my 20 deg quilt. I picked up a Borah Gear ultralight bivy in wide. It's around 6.4 oz. Along with their 7x9 silpoly flat tarp. It's been working out pretty well. Paired it with the old Nemo Tensor Insulated wide and a Hammock Gear 40 deg quilt. It's been ok down to around 40 degrees. I'd probably need more layers if going lower.

Thanks man. Yeah brookies are my favorite trout to catch, I wish I was able to catch some rainbows I saw in the rivers too but I spooked em all with how shallow it was haha

@@joeyallenoutdoors9086 haha hate when that happens but we all do it. Now that you're in Nevada, you have faster access to a lot of good fishing water. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I've been wanting to do a backpack fishing trip. Never have but it's definitely on the list. Your videos inspire me to get out and do it.

@@FreeFormFlyFisher yeah I'm planning on doing a lot more exploring forsure with how much easier it is to get up there now. I actually have some footage still from the fall that I didn't edit together yet but I've been busy with a lot of other things. And yeah man, backpacking is one of my favorite hobbies, it's nice to get away and disconnect for a little while. It can be tough though but I think it's worth it. I wish I started doing videos earlier, some of the coolest places and best fish I've caught aren't filmed or photographed but I'm sure there'll be more anyway. It's really the main reason I started too, most of my inspiration and motivation came from videos on youtube

Thank you. Yeah I shot everything at box speed. I used a nikon n80 and used the in camera meter on matrix mode. Right now with the snow in the sierra, I want to try pushing black and white but shooting outside of box speed is new to me. Got any tips?

@@joeyallenoutdoors9086 Well since film loves light and you basically don't want to under expose the shadows you lower the box ISO by half so if for example you are shooting portra 400, you set the camera ISO to 200 tricking the camera to meter at ISO 200 thus giving you more light.

I live in the city ( San Francisco ) I do a lot of backpacking in the Emigrant , Eastern Sierras, Yosemite and Henry Coe. I also have a small channel on KZbin that I would like to work on. I'm always looking for new backpacking / fly fishing buddies to go on trips with . I do a lot of solo , but it's fun to fish with friends. If your interested leave a contact . Thanks

Hell yeah that's cool man. I actually moved real close to the eastern sierra so I'll definitely be spending more time over here. I still have family in the bay and visit sometimes though. I'll keep that in mind though, but if you ever see me out on trail definitely say hi

I just wanted to say thanks. I mapped out your route on AllTrails and went on a solo overnight trip a few weeks ago. It gave me the courage to try it out.
