As an old bloke , I am astounded to see that an extensive industry has grown up about the simple task of washing a car. As a young man you only washed your car when you couldn't see out of the windows. So twice a year you would grudgingly slop a bucket of dirty water over the car. Now you have to decide if you want a pre-wash to the pre-wash to the pre-wash . The bottom line is that , as long the car is safe, clean windows, lights and number plates the rest doesn't matter. When a typical new car loses 60% of it's value in the first two years the condition of the paintwork pales to insignificance.

Hi Specky, I've used super resin polish and ultra deep shine and theyre both excellent products even applied by hand ... Not sure if the ultra feep shine makes an awful lot of difference or not but i picked up at a bargain price in Halfords so it was to good to miss and used it on a Satin Grey Skoda Octavia and it came up lovely..... Admittedly it wasnt bad to start with

@SpeckyMcSporranАй бұрын
The Meguires is a good compound but if you're new to polishing then you may want to start with their Ultimate Polish instead as it's less aggressive and easier to use. As for a beginner machine polisher I'd suggest a DAS6 or similar budget dual action polisher.

I take it you need a lance attachment for any snow foam application? Meaning you cannot get away using the cleaning bottle which comes with a pressure washer?
@SpeckyMcSporranАй бұрын
Good question! There are some pressure washers that include a foam bottle or perhaps a detergent tank but they're either useless or fall very short of producing the foam. There are tons of foam lances on the market made by many different companies which should make it fairly easy to find one compatible with your equipment. Once you have the right tool for the job you'll get much better foam.
@OrangeUtopiaАй бұрын
@@SpeckyMcSporran yeah found this out by experimenting. Doesn’t work and found that using this way it didn’t draw any of the dirt off. Ended up using the soft brush. But one interesting method I’m seeing that some mention pre jet washing to loosen the dirt. But some insist to spray onto the dried on dirt using snow foam which I would expect will cling more to the car. As the pre wash will only draw off the soap quick? And not get into the dirt. I suppose a pre wash wouldn’t be necessary if you’re just spraying on wet snow foam essentially
@SpeckyMcSporranАй бұрын
My theory is this - if you can see dirt actually sitting on the paint (rather than just road film) then you'd likely get a better clean by pre-rinsing the car first. If it's just road film then you can apply a snowfoam to the dry car and pressure rinse off after 5 - 10 mins of dwelling.

Thank you for the explanation. But I am getting confused :someone on KZbin said that srp doesn't contain abbrasives and you said it does contain abbrasives. This person tested polishing one clear coat with water and one with srp. He measured the thickness of the layer and before and after polishing the thickness of the coat on both didn't change. He said that srp wasn't a polish but that the fillers inside srp filled the swirls. Please how do you interprete this outcome?
@SpeckyMcSporran2 ай бұрын
Abrasives come in differing grades from very coarse to very fine. I spoke with AutoGlym some years ago and confirmed that SRP does indeed contain abrasives but they are very fine - to clarify the paint rather than to correct defects. I wouldn't expect regular use of SRP to remove enough of the lacquer to be noticeable.

I'd never pre-rinse any car, your blasting the dirt onto and about the paintwork. A snow foam encapsulates the dirt and provides lubrication for it to come off safely and effectively.

I know this is an old video. The instructions on the bottles are for the "average" person. There isn't any issues with sponges or leather on the average UK vehicle, that isn't a show trailer queen. For people that know what they are doing, then do it the way you want. Btw it's a standard builders bucket for the measurement. Good video, pointing out the issues.

I use Simonize in the Yellow can. It's a brutal workout. But! well worth the work. The trick to using Simonize in the Yellow can is to use (3) different pieces of Cheese Cloth, to take off the wax. Use three different Cheese cloths. First one takes off the first wet fresh wax. The second one emoves even more wax. & the third Cheese Cloth will buff & shine your paint like No -Other. After the first cheese cloth stats to get dirty, you disregard it. & the second cheese cloth becomes the first rub-off rag. & so forth. The third Cheese cloth is Always your polish / buffer rag.

1. Dragging Dirt and Contaminants Upward:The lower parts of the car, like the wheels, lower panels, and undercarriage, tend to accumulate more dirt, grime, and brake dust. If you start rinsing from the bottom, you risk dragging these contaminants upwards, spreading dirt from the dirtiest areas back onto the cleaner, upper parts of the vehicle.This can undo the cleaning you've already done, requiring more rinsing and potentially more soap to achieve a thorough clean.2. Pushing Dirt Back Down on Already Cleaned Panels:When you rinse from the bottom up, any dirt and foam that you lift off the lower parts can be pushed back down onto panels you have already cleaned. This means that contaminants can settle back onto surfaces that have just been rinsed, making the cleaning process less efficient and possibly leading to streaks and spots that are difficult to remove.

I think Pre-wash is a self-deluded con at this point. I almost got pulled onto the bandwagon until I started looking at the costs. £30 for the pre wash fluid, £50 for the good snow foam bottle, maybe £20 for the quick release adaptor, better if you have a short gun so £70 for that, and the nozzles, £10. Then I thought, I'm washing my car. It doesn't matter if you pre-wash or not, your car will be just as clean after you wash it than if you didn't pre-wash it, so what's the point? It all sounds a bit ridiculous.
@SpeckyMcSporran3 ай бұрын
Snowfoam is the most expensive way to use a pre-wash. You could buy a simple citrus based pre-wash and re-use an old trigger spray bottle.

The angle of the panel has a marked affect on the dispersal of the water. You really need to use a panel that is flat and angled down so that all the waxes are being treated equally.
