I'm a fairly new player so I remember thinking everyone else was either insanely good or maybe even hacking. I stuck with the game despite that (it probably helped I already beat the campaign and knew this was a game to stick with), and now, I'm definitely not "good" at the game, but I can hold my own. But I will admit it was rough initially and I understand why people don't stick with it.

However I see a worrying amount of people online use this sentiment to completely dismiss discussing balance in games completely (especially older ones like tf2 and tf2), which is a legitimately cringe and downright regressive attitude to have when discussing balance (or outright dismissing the discussion of balance in cases like that). Yes the game may or may not be still in active development, but it’s still important to discuss a game’s shortcomings since learning from the past is how improvement is made consistent. Also my surprise hot take is that the first two plants vs zombies shooter games did sniper balance in a way that was not AIDs for ether/both the user and the person it was used on, at least if you only look at the default kits minus the abilities for both team’s version of the sniper character. Which is unfortunate since the pvz shooter games are niche as hell and are now dead as hell thanks to a certain third game in the plants vs zombies shooter series that shall not be named (yes the plants vs zombies shooter games are asymmetric in terms of what specific classes are available to each team, but that’s kind of a given since it isn’t the standard affair of human conflict that is occurring. People who complain about the Smart Pistol didn't have to deal with it in Titanfall 1. Where it was a primary, it had a mod that let you lock on faster, and its amped version would speed up the locks even further and nullify the downside of the mod, that being the smaller targeting window. So you'd have a weapon that could get all three locks in the same speed it'd take to lock onto three grunts, with the default targeting window, and if they're running the perma-cloak burn card, you'd have an invisible pilot murdering everyone and disappearing right after. So yeah, be grateful it's a boost and stop overreacting.

The burn card system was awesome

I don't really think the skill gap is an issue, or at least nowhere near as it is in Apex. The main reason for that is that aside from the short time to kill there is also a very fast "time until action". Unlike Apex where dying means either waiting ~1 minute to be respawned or ~3 minutes to requeue, in TF|2 it takes like 2-10 seconds until you're back in the action, thanks to the dynamic spawns. Being spawned just outside the action means there is no boring trod back to the fight and does it's best to prevent being spawn camped. I've had many games where the enemy had a 50, 70 hell even close to 100 kill top-fragger and technically an absolute steamroll of a match, but I did not even notice because being killed just doesn't stop the flow. Granted, I would consider myself in the upper echelon of pub players, so I'm a little biased, but TF|2 is very non-stop with the action. Titans are also a good equaliser against pilots (though I know it can be frustrating to fight good pilots as a titan). They slow the pace down and can easily deal with a pilot.

Hopefully the hypothetical Titanfall 3 brings it back. Actual reasons like TTK aside, I never even found the Smart Pistol in 2 to be that bad to fight against.

I think its cool how the weapon is handled in the first one. Less of a pvp weapon and moreso just a way to farm minions more efficiently to get your Titan quicker. Most people prefer the pilot combat, but its nice they gave you a way to get to Titan combat more quickly if you wanted to.

It is but as someone that sucked at it, I wouldn’t want to change it. Unlike Gunz The Duel in the past, It’s baked into the game by design. It’s closer to Quake and Tribes in that way. I can admit that I’m not good enough to play this game. But I wouldn’t demand that it had to be made easier for me. The only change I would request is more uptime to use the titans like I heard so much about in the first game.

Im lucky i played apex since day 1 I'm level 4 and i am absolutely flying and frying bunnyhopping across the map its so fun

My favorite mechanic has to be the Deep Wound status effect from Dead by Daylight for how much pain and suffering a yellow bar, a 12 second timer, and a single, 10 second interaction to clear the effect and do it all again
