Chapter 9 of Shadow Dragon has always sat badly with me. Degenerating tyrant ot not, Marth's army intrudes on his kingdom and even by necessity it's an intrusion on his sovereignty. Plus the chapter is completely irrelevant to the overall story. It's as filler as non-Gaiden Fire Emblem has ever been, and we really didn't need to kill him from a story perspective. It would have been better if Dohlr or something was pursuing you and it turned into a three-way battle.

Fates hub areas was a small area. The example you showed was a problem that was only present mainly when 3D gaming was first introduced. Alot of filler area with nothing to do in much of the area. The hardware could not actually pull off 3D gaming at the time. Which resulted in many games trying to use 3D because it was popular.

No wonder New Mystery is so overlooked, because the worst thing about it is that it's hard to look at 😂

Love the video. I disagree hard on Palla for SoV though. Even if I'd only rank best lance users in SoV she would not be first. And, frankly, I consider her the worst Pegasus unit in SoV. Palla starts strong and falls off fast. Her growth are so bad for a pegasus. Every other run she gets stat screwed really easily to the point where I stopped to bother training her when her speed falls off. Catria is so much better as time progresses and Est as an Est arcetype also just gets better the longer she exists. Plus the fourth Pegasus Clair is acctually useful on Alms route since shes the only one besides potentially Faye who btw also is a better Pegasus than Palla because, again, better stats late game. What really annoys me about Palla is her low res. Pegasi are great as magic deleters and ending everything that is already dead. Palla lacks the res to take on any mage and her not great str growth makes her a pretty bad zombie terminator. Maybe Palla just hates me and always only levels badly to piss me off in particular, but I have yet to have a Palla that was useful to me. For SoV so far my MVPs were Genny, Delthea, Mae, Kliff, Mathilda, Tobin and Alm and Celica. Genny, Delthea and Mae are just amazing magic babies with good res that save my booty a lot. Kliff and Tobin for some reason always decide to get good. Mathilda always decides to carry me and Alm and Celica are just good. These units are always consistent. Palla is not. More units I think are better than Palla: Saber - bro carrys Celica. Boey- carrys Celica early game but his speed is abysmal but at least he can be a heal bot so still better than Palla. Litterally any villager - dreadfighter is just that good, also lightningsword user on alms side plus they can be archers and the killer bow is just that good. Litterally any archer - killer bow is just that good. Nomah - at least he can be a heal bot. Palla can't even be a meat shield without dying. But I am willing to debate that one, Nomahs stats are bad. Every mercinary- dreadfighter is just that good. Sonya - a really good unit, always solid. Every healer, especially Silque- healing and warp are good. Valbar - just because he is the best door of all time in that one fucking dessert map that will haunt my nightmares. That thing was full of archers, Palla litterally did nothing that map, might as well not deploy her for that one. Everything else that heals (yes also oranges) - they are useful and it doesn't matter if they get stat screwed, heal bot always good.

My best unit everytime I play Path of Radiance is Nephenee. Idk if I just get good rolls on her or what but she's and unstoppable monster in all my playthroughs.

The point of the game isn’t to keep all your units alive. The game was designed so that you could let people die 🤦😅

For me in Blazing Blade, Raven is hands down the strongest unit. Dude could just sit at a choke point and destroy EVERYTHING that dares walk up to him.

Edelgard is by far the weakest of the three lords (yes, you can cheese a boss with raging storm basically once, but that's about it), but it really doesn't matter because crimson flower is almost insultingly easy at times compared to other routes.

Honestly, I think Chapter 19 in SS is probably the worst ever. The game just says: "Fuck it." And just chucks late game enemies in FoW. It blows.

Was definitely expecting Gheb for Sacred Stones. The community has memed him for too long for him not to be memorable

I'm very surprised that Ishtore didn't win for fe4. Wasn't he the obvious choice? Considering he openly hates the child hunts and stuff? and his death leads to Ishtar refusing to join our side? Isn't that similar to Lonato in that he's a minor boss and yet still has a connection to another important character?

I loved Garreg Mach. That place was so cool. If you thought it was too big, there is a fast travel feature that gets you to where you want to go. It's not perfect, but you can do what you want to relatively quickly and move on. I personally ran around everywhere manually because I had a lot of fun tracking down my favorite characters hanging out with their friends or doing random stuff in their favorite places. The little joy you feel when Bernadetta actually left her room for the first time in months. Ducking through the shortcuts you find from exploring. Picking up random stuff and finding who it belonged to. That place is so full of life. Yes, it is very big, but did I haul ass to the cathedral every month to check on Marianne and see what she had to say? Absolutely.

So I have 2 points to make on this: 1 - For gameplay, one thing I've also noticed is a common anime trope that bleeds into games like this, which is the person being protected actually being superior or more useful than the retainers protecting them. This is alot more subjective in games than in anime because a "good" unit depends on how you play and what you need, but it still seems pretty common that the royal units are the most powerful in their trio while the retainers always have to compete with either their own royal or some other units for viability. It's like there's supposed to be 3 tiers of power (royal, retainer, and commoner) and you expect the retainers to be either #1 or #2 depending on where the royal is. But more often than not, the royal is #1, the retainers and commoners share the #2 spot in direct competition with one another, and there is no #3 slot. So basically, every team ends up consisting of ALL the royals plus whatever works and often the retainers fall off compared to some of the other random badasses that float into your team... So then they just feel worthlezs both narratively AND as units in your team 😅 2 - When it comes to investing tons of money and time into developing characters, therefore they MUST be mandatory... I don't agree. I think companies are just scared to try it. But with Fire Emblem specifically, I think making these characters missable, especially in a game like Engage would have been a GOOD thing. It would have added incentive to actually replay the game and try out new characters and clear different objectives. I'm a firm believer that with Fire Emblem, replayability is a huge booster for attachment to the game and boosts fan reception. It also gets people more familiar with the game, story, and intricacies. This is why Sacred Stones and Blazing Sword did so well; they're very replayable games. Giving people more interesting stuff to experience on those replays is a huge part of making it work and missed content from the first playthrough offers you that and makes the world feel larger than just a straight line scripted event (another reason gaiden chapters are cool). Engage specifically feels like it's only worth replaying if you get the DLC because that's the only thing that could possibly add to a replay but even that hurts because you have to pay extra in order to want to go back into the game. Three Houses almost got it right but the process of doing just one playthrough was exhausting, so two more plus a DLC story was overwhelming, plus it STILL suffered from the same issue where replaying a route you already did offered very little. I don't think they're gonna fix it, but most recent FE games are either too long, don't have enough variance, make you pay extra money, or demand too much time on side content to feel good replaying over and over unless you're a completionist or a game reviewer...

alright so for blazing blade it does actually tell you to hurry up and that the path will dissapear in the augury fortune teller, and if you just stall for enough turns the path does come back permanently

I find the fact that a non-story important character like Guy from Blazing Sword stands out so much more than the majority of the retainers from Fates, 3H and Engage. You not only have to recruit him as an enemy but you must have another non-story important character, Matthew, talk to him to essentially twist Guy's arm to join Eliwood and Hector because Matthew helped out Guy in the past. Frankly the retainer spam is only done for the sake of Fire Emblem Heroes. It's a simple way to buff up a game's roster who can also be sold as a pair in a gacha.

I really either dont care or dislike most of fates maps. Between that, the mediocre story and characters the game is just not good for me.

Yeah but if your talking about being a retainer, marcus the goat would be the definition of loyalty that freaking guy is the retainer of maybe two or three generation of lords like Eliwood's father, eliwood and roy bro's not retiring even in old age even though he sucks as a pre promote in roy's gen you can't deny the man's loyalty
