The entirety of the Gorillaz album The Fall was actually made with GarageBand. It's a good album on its own, but knowing it was all made on a iPad during their 2010 world tour adds an extra dimension, it's a really impressive album in that regard. And it has Amarillo on it :)

LOL Ray in the comments clarifying he never claimed Robbie stole the song. Got paid for his contribution; Also had the version of his song scrapped. Guy and Robbie re-wrote the song when they released the final version.

Your research is good brother. But add song samples more into your videos as you mention those songs. Generally, music loving people will watch your videos and they'll expect to hear a bit of a music rather than simply a lecture. :)

Forget this fantastic song. The album is a thing to behold. This song is actually the album’s weakest song. And the song Brothers In Arms is breathtaking.

All I hear is two full of themselves guys who jeopardise friendships and relationships because they are in love with the idea of a girl, but not the girl herself. However bad that sounds I’m not judging them for it and obviously life and live is complicated. But some of the actions here just seem incredibly immature for adults, however great the music that came out from it was.

Frank Zappa said the technology is just one more roadblock in the way of music in the head to music on the page n stage. He bought the Synclavier just for transcribing, he had a assistant run it and said he had no interest in learning how to work it. Eventually he learned how to enter the info himself. Then once he got really rolling you couldn't get him off the machine.

From my expriance I think the payouts to original artists for using so many samples from their music would have cost too much and made it unprofitable in the end. The same could be said for anyone who wanted to use this piece of music in the background of a project it would be financialy unviable because of the copyright.

I've heard tales of bands trying to capture the live sound and twisting themselves in knots, repeatedly recording. But which of them has heard their live sound from anywhere but the stage, which is clearly not what you want to record. Trust the engineer.

Great video and points that are useful to any musician! Great job. But using The Beatles as good examples of all of this is disingenuous to say the least. Most musicians and bands didn't have their luxuries, like being able to simply stop touring and only be a studio band because they were multi millionaires right after their first/second album. Not everyone can afford basically living in Abbey Road Studios because studio time can cost $10k a day. Not everyone has access to a literal team of 10+ people making sure they're recording you perfectly using hundreds of mics that cost $5000 each (Nuemanns). Not everyone has access to a team of people perfectly mixing and mattering your songs as you're recording them. Not everyone has a team of 1000s of people marketing your songs and making sure every radio station plays them 1000 times a day. I could go on but you get my point. And the whole "they didn't know theory so that's why their songs are so original" is a bunch of malarkey. 1000s of people over decades have analysed the music theory of all of their songs and none of them are unconventional. They all stick to basic music theory practices. It's cool they didn't know for to write it down, but it was in their heads and if they knew a little they probably would've wrote more original musical ideas. The only crazy thing is their song structures are a bit weird and that was innovative in pop music at the time, but it's been pretty common for classical music to have been doing that for decades before them so they likely borrowed ideas from there. In the end, I agree with Paul. They were just a good band. I love many of their songs but they have so many advantages that people conveniently leave out that irks me. 🥴
