I love the contrast of Prince's "Don't worry about perfection, be authentic" vs Michael's "Each part should be perfect"

@GoldenBeetl327 күн бұрын
Prince was hell of a hard worker too. Everybody said he was a perfectionist and he was. He just said that because we all know perfection doesn’t exist, even MJ said in this video than even if he was n°1 charts, he was still not satisfied. You need both, authenticity and perfection to be among the best but I agree, perfection without authenticity is souless but the opposite is why you will never have the succes of these two legends if you only count on being authentic.

the moonwalk was actually created by dancers from the 1930's and michael learned it from a soul train dancer called jeffrey daniels. jeffrey is also the one that helped with the bad and smooth criminal choreographies
@duncanidaho89002 ай бұрын
It seems that more than 5 ppl are taking credit for teaching him the backslide- Michael named the move afterwards the moonwalk- or to inspire him. MJ does this differently though, moving also his upper body and arms, thus giving to the initial move walking/gliding backwards the impression of really walking ...back. Jeffrey Daniels was with some ideas for Bad ( there is a footage with MJ and JD and a third guy working together for the dance steps on yt, they were feeding each other ideas) and Smooth criminal, the main choreography was done by MJ and Vincent Patterson. MJ was with this old Hollywood theme of gangsters and such stuff, listen Al Capone, the first variant of Smooth criminal and Chicago 45.The backslide was old step, it was transmitted from one to another. The first creature to do it was a tiny bird in Central America. MJ incorporated this basic move and transformed it into thr choreography for Bille Jean for underlying the idea of retreat, of stepping back, from a street dance move he transformed it into art.

As a personal attribute, being a perfectionist is a curse, not a blessing, as any mental health specialist or psychologist will tell you, and there is no doubt that Michael Jackson, despite his success and riches, was less happy than the average person.
@hannaz4617Ай бұрын
I don’t think that’s what Michael Jackson meant. He wasn’t speaking about a narcissist seeking to build an amazing and perfect self-image and to serve his own created image. Michael was talking about putting your soul, heart, passion, and love into what you do. By doing so, you connect deeply with your inner self and are guided by a divine spirit. Whatever you do, if done with love, brings you closer to God. Michael understood that his talent was a gift from God-to create brilliant songs and dance that brought happiness to others. His goals were not wealth or fame, instead, he wanted to follow his spiritual path. He helped the sick and poor, united people of different countries, cultures, and ages, and raised awareness of injustice, poverty, crime, and violence through his music. In that way, he followed what he believed God intended him to do. I don’t agree with the idea that Michael was unhappy. He was frustrated and saddened by the media’s unfair treatment and had to deal with false allegations, greed, and jealousy.
@mirandaal4541Ай бұрын
@ You evidently idolize Michael Jackson, which makes it impossible for you to talk about him objectively, even though you may not realize it. First of all, I don’t know where you fetch the idea of narcissism from. Being a perfectionist in psychological terms has nothing to do with being narcissistic. Various mental disorders not having to do with a narcissistic personality disorder involve perfectionism. Perhaps because you idolize Michael Jackson and don’t realize that he was just like you and me, you deny that he was unhappy in his life except for his unhappiness with media treatment. Evidence that Michael Jackson was emotionally unbalanced is all over - from his own admission of physical and emotional abuse as a child at the hands of his father to the fact that he missed a normal childhood due to his and his siblings’ music career, which led to compensatory childlike behaviours as an adult, to his image complex (vitiligo does not account for all his plastic and cosmetic surgeries, much less to his chosen physical appearance for his children, who don’t even have a biracial appearance) to the well-documented dysfunctional family in which he grew up. Of course, he was treated unfairly by the media and others and unjustly accused of child abuse, which had an adverse impact on his career and didn’t help matters as far as his personal happiness was concerned.
