I cannot explain to you how much this heteronormative thing was having a chokehold on my own attraction to women. I was so close with many of my female friends. I even dated one at one point but still insisted to myself I must be straight. but it makes sense. When your mom tells you its just a phase over and over, you get confused about what is friendship cause the goalpost to romaticism keeps moving further from it, and also media rarely if ever shows women loving other women romantically, you feel like it is impossible for you to like women that way. despite your drive to be intimate or make out and such. other romantic gestures. You are brainwashed to think all of that is platonic. even getting physical somehow. It is so hard to deal with especially when you are bi and your into men. I often test myself asking if id still be so in denial if my relationships were free of society around us and also judgement. I loved my girlfriend back then but still i struggle to call her that cause it was so messy and confusing while in denial and it keeps telling me it wasn't a "real" relationship although it felt like one. Its sad how little ppl talk about this. replace these girls with men and nobody would question the validity of that messy relationship as a relationship. Same with getting intimate with men or stuff like making out. Nobody calls all of that platonic. But when its a girl, it feels impossible to convince people that it was a romantic relationship somehow. And yet it was her that 'd kiss for hours. I'd get physical with to some extent. yet the male friend that never even flirted or implied he was into me at all was somehow a more valid romantic connection to ppl than the very intimate relationship I had with that girl. So if you are questioning, just ask yourself if you would if the girl was a man. if ppl assumed you couldn't be that close despite how close you are. If you can replace it with a man and have everyone agree it is romantic and a relationship it is also that with the girl you are close with. You can love women. and it is not any lesser than a relationship with a man. You are valid, your relationships were real and you are what you are. Nobody gets to dictate that other than you yourself.

I have dabbled in true crime from time to time. Listening to serial killer biographies and such but if I watch it for too long I get anxious and fearful. I have an interest in the psychological aspect. I just want to understand why they do it.

I kinda want to read it just to understand the illogical nature of so many situations in the manga. But since it’s so dumb I also feel no interest in wasting my time, just for the sake of wrapping my head around nonsense. Like from the beginning, for example: Why didn’t the tard girl just put the money in a bank account? I can understand her being overly trusting to a ridiculous degree for the sake of plot, but trust has nothing to do with knowing a stranger isn’t more reliable than a secure facility that specializes in handling large sums of money.

Can’t believe I’m just finding this 3 years later!!! I’ve been commenting on tons of true crime videos about how awful they truly are!!! True crime got me into becoming a victim advocate!!! True crime is just that True!!! It has real victims that had families and loved ones. And they aren’t here anymore. They are gone. It’s final! Hopefully creators will figure it out and celebrate the victims and their families not the perpetrators!

I am watching this video for the first time, and am only at 2 minutes, but the intro already resonates with me a lot. There is a True Crime Podcast that exists in various translations, and I used to listen to the German one. It was a very factual, straight to the point thing. The English original had a few different topics, so I decided to check that one out as well. When I tell you I was shocked by it. It started with a POV retelling of the crime, like a fanfiction. I was so appaulled by it. And it surprised me just how different and better the German version of it was. Truly baffling. Edit: I have watched the whole video now and want to expand on my comment. The German version of the Podcast does have moody music, but it feels more like someone is reading a wikipedia entry to you, rather than a fanfiction. They expand on the lives of the victims, of their current situations at the time etc., humanizing them. This was the kind of true crime stuff I interacted with, and when I started watching video essays of this sort on true crime it was absolutely shocking to me that people interacted so carelessly with these stories, that others who "enjoy" true crime enjoy it not like a wikipedia entry but like a fanfiction (not to mention those videos where people do their make up or something while talking about it, I don't understand how people can genuinely trust them to tell the order of events etc. accurately). Either way, I have stopped interacting with true crime content a long time ago, and seeing things such as the Jeffrey Da hmer series on Netflix make me sick to my stomach. I genuinely wish people would be more conscious not just about what they consume, but also how they consume it. (And I hope Evan Peters gets to play more light-hearted roles like Quicksilver again in the future.)

Honestly, I don't think I would have cared that Jess and Jules (I hope those were their names) aren't lesbians had there not been that whole side plot about the mother thinking that Jules is a lesbian and that she and Jess are together. When I tell you I went to bed and cried about this movie after I saw it because of how homophobic that mother was… as a teen who was questioning her identity at that time, it was a real punch in the gut because the movie was definitely hinting at them being lesbians. There's the scene where they look like they kiss, they generally have great chemistry, even the mother thinks they are together. And then it seems to turn into a lecture about "how not all tomboys are lesbians and girls who play soccer can also be straight" which honestly just feels condescending to me. It felt like queerbaiting us and then lecturing us for being baited by it. And while the mother is never depicted as being right about how much the idea of a lesbian daughter destroys her, there is never a satisfactory victory over her and as a teen girl that just really intensified my fear of ever coming out, thinking that my parents might react like that. (But I really liked the movie! It was a good movie, that's the problem with it. It just really ripped my heart out and stomped on it)

"some of you just have bad taste" lmfao damn, shots fired. "dip", "chris" lol funny that you didn't even learn his name, I mean, he is pretty forgettable. Love the video and I agree, you are making solid points! One note, Jennifer goes to Needy first, and then when she couldn't eat her... she eats the exchange student. I think it makes the whole point even more powerful, she really did go to her FIRST.

I see their relationship different I think needy was leaning Jennifer on. I think Jennifer was in love with Nini and that is not nice. She keep leading her on. She needs to get over chip that is absolutely ridiculous that she’s obsessed with her and I heard that they weren’t even dating that long, so so why are you in love with him? I’m not getting it complete. Someone explained to me, how in love when she’s only been dating him a little bit I mean she is so mean to Jennifer I feel bad I put up with that I punch you in her face so rude I mean it’s just awful. Why why did she put up with it I wouldn’t.

Even tho jasmine is half Indian half Arab, she lives in Arabic palace and country so it would made zero sense if she would have wear Indian wedding lehengas all the time. But I highly agree that her dresses was bad. They could hire someone Middle Eastern. As a Turkish person and people say yeah its ottoman and stuff we was not dresssing like this it was way different. Its just having the same vibe. all the dresses of jasmine in the movie was looking like its from toysr us

Gotta admit, my first or second time watching the movie I always thought the dynamic of their relationship was Jennifer’s insecurity being the only reason why she remained friends with Needy. The whole pretty friend hanging with less attractive friends to look better by comparison thing. There definitely is that theme at certain points throughout the movie but the more prominent is simply Jennifer wanting what she can’t have. (it’s Needy in case you couldn’t figure it out) She goes after the guys Needy likes, doesn’t care about a guy until Needy points out that she thinks they are cute, always wants Needy’s time & attention then gets upset when other people have it instead of her. Whether or not she wanted Needy as a friend or something more, I don’t believe the movie gave enough to form a definitive answer about that. If she really wanted Needy as more than a friend, then why would she be so interested to see that band at the beginning of the movie and talk about how hot they are. I think the movie plays with the idea of Needy & Jennifer but doesn’t commit to it, so it’s really impossible to say that they had or ever were supposed to have a romantic relationship

i have only watched the 1984 anime. i heavily disliked the romance aspects of both the sakurakoji and masumi arcs and how they got way more screen time than they deserved. masumi was pretty creepy, to his defence he never acted on his feelings because he recognised they were wrong and his act on being a heartless man was interesting. sakurakoji on the other hand stopped being interesting once he ran away instead of supporting maya and his scenes were dragged on for way too long. the romance between maya and ayumi was the best part, although it was only hinted and not explored. ayumi really is the best character imo, and it's a shame she doesn't get more development. the anime feels in this sense a bit like ace wo nerae. ochofujin and ayumi are similar characters. todou is a much better version of sakurakoji. oni-coach has a little bit of masumi and tsukikage, although he is also much much better as a character. both protagonists also have a great supportive side character friend. but unlike in ace wo nerae, the protagonist maya herself is at times hard to sympathise with. i think that's the worst aspect of the anime.
