Without offense, considering that the interaction between all the toms, bass drum and snare make the sound of a kit, difficult to know, with no sound on the bass drum, why to play a such kit with in definitive, a dead sound ?
@ThomasCremier6 сағат бұрын
No offense taken don't worry! This is a presentation of the raw sound of each shell, with the heads I chose to use. As said in the video, sound research of the snare drum takes a while video to share, so I really focused on the toms' sound in that video. And in my style of music, almost all drummers use triggers to capture the kicks. But to hear the full kit, mixed and produced, please wait for the first cover I will release ! On my channel, the next video will be the comparison (and sound research) of eight different Puresound snare wires, and then the first cover with that new kit ! Hope I answered to your question, and that you understand why I chose to do it like this. Cheers from France !

Great Video!. I have an original Z Mega bell. Instantly I can hear that the 2007 Z Custom sounds most similar to it. I love it but often use an earth ride instead as it's so overpowering in most live situations. I also have the Z hats 14 which I use all the time. they have star on the top and hex on the bottom. great work!

Is this possible without triggers?
@ThomasCremier8 күн бұрын
Any technique played at really fast tempos won’t sound. Acoustic kick played really fast doesn’t have any attack and produce like a buzzing sound. So triggers are needed to have a consistent sound. It is just like using distortion over an electric guitar 😉
@pudritiblast11 күн бұрын
Hello bro, a question... I have these triggers and I can't configure them to work with heel toe technique and normal hits, my configuration is 15 treshold 5 retrigger and even then it doesn't capture all the hits well, my question is how do you use it with 2 of threshold and 2 of retrigger, if I put your same configuration it is unsustainable... it retriggers a lot, you cannot make simple blows at low speed because it shoots anything... and if I make a curler that is to say 4 blows, as you have to exert more pressure 2 blows are fired together which generates a very annoying noise as if you were giving 2 blows in unison...
@pudritiblast11 күн бұрын
I can't find anyone who can help me with this problem, the same thing happened to me with other triggers I had from my country and I was never able to figure out what it was due to... I was never able to configure correctly to be able to use all the techniques... I hope you can help give me a hand since I tried many configurations and did not find the solution, yesterday I spent 4 hours trying and I can't. I can't find the problem, thank you very much in advance.
@ThomasCremierКүн бұрын
Hi there! Sorry for the delay of answer! So about your triggering problem, first questions are: - Do you bury the beater into the head, like do you let the beater touches the head when you aren't hitting? - What is the head you are using? Do you have it tightened or pretty loose? Personally, my beaters never rest on my kick drum heads when I am not hitting it, so the trigger is touched only when I want a hit to fire! Then, I use mesh heads for years on my kicks, very tight tension! And the tension is very important as the head will physically move a little bit, and the more it is loosened, the more the amplitude of the head is big. And it will make it less precise for the detection. For your FootBlaster triggers, the footplate needs to touch the sensor on the angle, not on the flat side. And lastly, about the trigger settings. Input: PADx2 Type: RT-30k Start with sensitivity all the way up, threshold all the way down. Curve: LOUD2 RetrigCancel sets the minimum time possible between two samples, so faster you play, smaller it needs to be. XtalkCancel: 20% Start playing and decrease the sensitivity until it doesn't get all the hits, increase it a little. Then do the same thing with the Threshold by increasing it until some hits aren't triggered and lower it a bit. Continue playing and make little adjustments to make it work for you, set to your techniques! My settings are my personal ones that was adjusted over a year before being these ones and didn't change at all since then! Hope it helps, Do not hesitate to tell me if it is better! Cheers from France!

My RetrigCancel is at 2, but if you do not play faster than 240 for example, it can be increased 😉

That’s wild…as a dude who doesn’t play Evans much anymore, I still run a cranked UV2 as my snare head, and based on this video, that’s still the correct choice out of the entire lineup. Wide open with no muffling on a 14x8 birch snare, it sounds incredible and has lasted a year so far. If I absolutely had to switch to something else from Evans, I’d probably do an Onyx? Idk. I just wish Remo’s control dots would stop exploding 😂
@ThomasCremier13 күн бұрын
Yeah the UV2 is a wide sounding with a long sustain and… extremely durable! Happy you still think the UV2 is your greatest choice 😉 I was pretty disappointed by the Onyx as it has a strange resonance, as it the sound stays too much in the shell and not going out of it. I had one time the Remo's Control Dots, but didn't last that long unfortunately… Cheers from France!

I agree with you, the Low tuning isn't the one where the heads shine and let us hear what they can do. We can hear the natural sustain of the head itself, with the dry vents, the differences between the textures, coating or aramid finer etc … The UV2 is really a great one as it has a wide sound, with pretty long sustain that can be dampened with all the accessories we have available! And thank you very much for your feedback about the video and its quality! 😉

For me the 2007 was most appealing. Clearly the pitch has gone lower the newer it gets - coincidence that the guitar tunings have gone lower at the same time, nowadays an 8-string guitar with F# being lowest is a common thing? Thank you Thomas for such a thorough video for a niche subject. Awesome vid and drumming!!
@ThomasCremier26 күн бұрын
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! Exactly, the pitch has gone lower and lower, and it might be a coincidence to have a better sound coherence with the tuning used nowadays. My baritone guitar is tuned to drop E, so one octave down the standard E and I love the sound of my Z3 with it! It gives a lot of contrast. My favourite one is the Z3, then the 2024 Z Custom. They both have the greatest explosiveness with brightness and harmonics. If you like niche and really detailed comparison like this one, I released an Evans Drumheads video comparing 13 snare heads, all the double ply plus two Hybrid 😉 And next will be Puresound snare wires! Probably a common question, but not going through 4,000+ comments as you have over the years - How DO you find the time? Well, about the triggering - is it merely for sound quality and evenness of the hits pertaining to sound or are there any additional hits supplied by the trigger? No wrong answer, as you had said 'There are no stupid questions' elsewhere. Great words to live by! My own comment is 'It never hurts to ask, but you might not like the answer'. Great vid, hence it being an icon on my desktop. Thanks! I consider myself to be very fast, butt to add this technique, finally??? Step back, folks! 🤩🤗
@ThomasCremierАй бұрын
Hi there ! Thanks for watching and your comment! First, I took the time needed as I played for years minimum three times a week, I always had a band I played with minimum once a week from 2010 to 2018 approximately (and it really helps progressing)! About triggering, it helps first to a-have a consistent sound. It is not the acoustic sound which is recorded, but the combo triggers with a drum module allows you to choose a sample and this one will be triggered each time the trigger is hit. I made a video explaining what triggers are : kzbin.info/www/bejne/i17YanaHZ9ach9U It absolutely doesn't add any hit. All the hits played are listened more precisely, so technically speaking, it is more difficult to play with triggers because you hear all the errors you play ! So you need to be more precise compared to playing without 😉 And exactly, there is no dumb questions, so do not hesitate if you still have something to ask! Cheers from France!

This is the best Evans two-ply snare comparison video out there now. Might be the only one actually lol. So this helped me narrow down some choices for sure. Torn between the ST Dry, Heavyweight Dry, and the UV2. I would love to get the Hybrid head but I’ve heard that it’s only safe for metal hoops. I have a Superstar Classic 14x6.5 with die cast hoops. Sounds pretty good right now with EC Reverse dot but it’s a little bit too “gushy” at the moment. Not enough attack and a little box sounding even with higher tuning. Need something else for my prog rock band.
@ThomasCremierАй бұрын
Thank you so very much for your feedback! 🖤 I searched while I was preparing and writing this video, and I found some good videos having more heads but not all two-ply, there was a blend of two and single ply heads, and sometimes with different brands. So yeah, this comparison is (for now) the only full two ply range of Evans Drumheads! I really like the ST Dry, but it isn’t durable enough for my playing unfortunately! The Heavyweight Dry is a BEAST. But I feel it needs to be tightened a lot to really shine, in this video, I think the Heavyweight Dry could be tightened a bit more 😉 I have it installed on another snare of mine, and it sounds massive! The UV2 is really the most polyvalent one, it has a wide frequency range and with all the accessories with have in our disposal (Snareweight Dampers and all others models), we can really sculpt the sound we want! And its durability is mad! About the Hybrid, I have a Tama Starclassic Bubinga 14"x8" with Die-Cast Hoops, for about ten years. Seven out of the ten, a Hybrid was installed (and still is), pretty much cranked, and I never had any issue 😉 I know what you mean about the EC, this what I do not like about it. It is good to have an low and fat sound, but even cranked it doesn’t get the attack I am looking for. Not enough precision! The Heavyweight is its big brother and it definitely can have a big low end punch while allowing a great transient attack! But none of the ones above and the 13 heads of this comparison is a bad choice. It is all about the sound YOU are looking for, your preferences and the durability you want! 🙏🏻 Tell me which one you installed on your snare when you made your choice! Cheers from France!
