After two days I started to improve. The transition down from falsetto to head voice was especially helpful; instead of trying to force air up from chest to head, I learned to aim for falsetto with a lighter flow of air and land in head voice with just a slight bit of extra air. Once I started to get how it feels and where it's placed, it started to come naturally very quickly.

The painful part is me being able to do the exercises that should fix these issues but when I get hold of the mic to sing in church, it sucks! although i nailed the exercises.😂

I've been on T for like 3 years so I had to relearn how to use my voice (and also how to regain control of my singing voice, bc any prolonged endeavour hurt and voice cracks at the drop of a hat). I'm now most comfortable in mix, but when I go down to chest voice it's surprisingly deep and scary easy as well. I still can do high head notes without falsetto, but I have to really work for it and open my throat and get enough air moving.

Quick random question: Is it possible to recover from vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux with time?
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 17 күн бұрын
I'm not an ENT/laryngologist, so I'm not qualified to answer that. Speaking purely anecdotally, I have seen some singers suffering from reflux improve their voice and tone while training with me. Whether the damage was reversed is another question, which I can't answer.

Originally the song Sinful Passion was written and performed by a very popular pop music group, A-Studio. A Russian-based Kazakh band. Dimash is doing a cover . The piano player here, is an original member of the band. “Sinful Passion” ("Greshnaya Strast” in Russian) was first time performed by the band in 1998.Batyrkhan Kamaluly Shukenov was a singer, musician, composer, and poet. After leaving the group in 2000, Batyrkhan began his solo career. . Unfortunately Batyrkhan Shukenov died at age 52 from a heart attack. I have read the lament (similar to a muslim call to prayer ) Dimash added to the piece is in honour/ memory of him.

Out of curiosity, what would my voice type be; My chest range is C2-G4(C5 when belting and G5 in fallseto) My speaking voice ranges from G2-F3(a little higher in upper inflections) and I’d consider it medium in weight My prima voce is F2-C4 so I’ve always considered myself a Bass baritone but I’ve never gotten a professional on it other than what my directors need for a particular concert cycle
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio

Like I mentioned in the video, range is just a piece of the puzzle. I'd have to hear you and work with you to know, and even then I usually wait for the voice to build and passages smooth out before I attempt to categorize. I'd be happy to work with you if you want to explore this more.

It would be great to have a video that I could pull up every time before I get ready to perform. Something designed for men without out much talking. Kind of like a tool. Titled start this vocal warm up for men 40 minutes before performing or something like that.

I would categorise you as a tenor just from listening to your speaking voice Spencer. But in my opinion the vocal fach stuff is more to do with where someone’s voice ‘comes to life’.
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio Ай бұрын
Yes, I'm definitely a tenor. Obviously there's only so much I can cover in 60 seconds, so I've chosen the scientific/anatomical distinction since it is less subjective, although I see your point. Fach can be a rats nest haha

@deathrattle216
@deathrattle216 Ай бұрын
Exactly. If you struggle with an F4 out of the gate as a singer, you're probably a lyric/high baritone, not a pure tenor. I have a slightly heavier voice than Spencer, but I was hitting A4s as a beginner. I've had the passaggi points of a natural tenor since day one.
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio Ай бұрын
Gotta push back there respectfully. A majority of tenors start by pulling up to a F4 or F#5 and then flipping into falsetto above that. It's a classic lack of coordination and misunderstanding of registration. If you sang A4s as a beginner, that makes you a lucky outlier, not the norm :)
