The isles of Barra and Vatersay are my favourite place to go on holiday especially as my clan originates from there. They also have nice fresh food and the Barra distillers dark rum is another thing to have there. You can find charcoal on some of the beaches there and quartz on the beaches as well from the lewisian gneiss rocks around the coast. Awesome photographs.

Hi Graham - thank you for watching and your comment. The last image is from one raw file - the light was dancing all over the place because of the strong winds and broken clouds - I took a whole bunch of photos and chose the one you saw. Editing was just in Lightroom tweaking the highlights and shadows and then using a couple of radial filters to bring out the differential lighting. All in all, I guess it took me 10 minutes to edit. I only filmed this yesterday so most of my time since has been spent putting the video footage together. Because I learnt my photography craft during the film days, I have been disciplined to get as much done in camera which cuts done editing time in the digital era. Dean

I really enjoyed that thanks, not only a cracking location but your shot decision making and lens choices based on what you were seeing, then your explanation of exactly what light you were waiting on was very interesting. I also loved your very British "i'll put the most half decent photo up!" 😄 The final photo was well worth the wait, cheers.

Hi Chris…thank you for watching and taking the time to make a comment….it is very much appreciated. I'm a bit old school with self congratulatory remarks - the most overboard I tend to go is "half decent". I'm pleased you liked the final image - it's a shame the old croft may not be there in a few years for others to enjoy it and to try and understand a little about the history of this area. Dean
