All car manufacturers put their fingers on the scale of politics. Ford might have been the first but look at all of them that are lining up behind our right wing candidate. They want no regulation, no later unions, no taxes, and the right to make their software for their cars so no mechanic other than a dealer can work on them.

After Germany declaired War on the US, ALL American companies in Germany were seized by the German Government. Thus, it was NOT "Ford's Company" at that point. HOLY COW I have just had an epiphany. Perhaps because of willful ignorance I did not know the real extant of Henry Ford's involvement of Nazism. I was born and raised in Michigan. I understand now why conversations with my father and his best friend Stan. The reason their voices we're very low in their conversations. Both my parents escaped to the United States in the mid 1930s. My father and his family escape from Czechoslovakia.

As a young child parents who escaped Hitler in the early 1935 I can tell you that an early age I was nosing around and my father's closet I found many books some on science nature animals end history one in particular I asked my father about he was very reluctant to talk to me about it. I was quite Young maybe 7 years old. But it had to do with the military in general. I didn't really comprehend what he was saying. A few years later I talked to my dad or try to about when he was in the service during world war II. I asked him about the bullet wounds/scars in his arms. Again he was reluctant to explain why he had those scars. As preteen I heard him talking to a friend of his about their experiences during world war II. There were incidences politically at the time because Eisenhower was running for president. I believe that was the first time I ever heard the word fascism. He was relating to How Eisenhower help deliver and then to world war II. Long story short my father did finally educate me about Mussolini and Hitler's regime . And the evilness and horror they brought into the world. From the first time I heard her I have always been a fan of Rachel Maddow. And I'm more so now after listening to her podcasts Bagman and the two Ultra series. I hope more people will invest the time to listen to them. I know the education I received from it it's priceless. And I am thankful I had the brains and desire to listen to them and learn.

I'm so glad I found this. I think it's important at the top to include a few bullets on where fascism can lead. If I was new to the topic, I could hear, here are some fascists and here are some heroes, without first being informed about the true nature of fascism. We can't assume everyone hears the word and shudders; many are convinced they need a strong leader who makes empty promises of economic prosperity for them by 1) dehumanizing and exporting "deplorables" who compete for their jobs and resources (myth) 2) dropping the department of education and its budget to save money and give the states freedom (because uninformed citizenry is less likely to rise up), 3) fire career civil servants so those jobs can be filled by appointment rather than on merit (which only becomes a powerful tool of the strong man .) It can't be overstated or stated too often.

The question about why this history is so obscured or non existent, is fascinating. I think the fact that the Right today wraps itself today in anti communist rhetoric is a tell.

The Depression was hideous and of course Americans thought Fascism would bring more equality. You don’t mention that men were riding the rails seeking work anywhere; people were horribly poor; children were told to leave their family because the family couldn’t support them. It went on from 1929 to 1940. You speak as if it was something that never happened to your family.

I was sure that they had really existed, so I went searching for history of the movement in my usual online places, such as Wikipedia. Not a word. Spurlos versenkt, all of them. So I was so happy, Rachel, when "Ultra" came out. I am sure you are right, that the history was effectively erased from the American narrative because it was too uncomfortable and clashed with the story -- especially when Gen. To add to the history of Henry Ford, when President Roosevelt assigned Auto Executive William Knutson to approach the Titans Who Built America of whom Roosevelt vilified beginning with becoming President, when he could see that war with Germany was looming, William chose to approach Edsel Ford first. Edsel was the one who created Ford Aviation because he felt Edsel would be the easiest to get on board with war manufacturing and if he got board the others like Henry Ford, Pierre Dupont, Walter Chrysler, William Boeing and J.P Morgan may follow suit. Edsel was ready to get back into aircraft manufacturing, however Henry told Edsel, "You can tell Roosevelt that Ford builds cars and if he wants airplanes he can go to an airplane maker. We are not going to war with Germany." So William Knutson went to Pierre Dupont next who ran General Motors. Pierre was labeled "The Merchant of Death" by the Roosevelt Administration because he made profit off of the ammunition he manufactured for the US 🇺🇸 in WW I. Obviously Pierre said no. William was getting no ware fast. Then when Pearl Harbor was attacked, Henry Ford did an about face and built Willow Run, the largest aircraft factory in the world. They built the B24 Bombers faster than any other manufacturer in the world. Ford also built the Jeeps for the US Army. Matter of fact Enzo Ferrari's first encounter with Ford Motor Company was when his car factory was bombed by a Ford built B24 Bomber. It's been said without Ford's B24 Bombers we would have lost WWII. All of the other Titans came on board too when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Pierre Dupont began manufacturing ammunition at General Motors. Chrysler built the first US 🇺🇸 tanks, Henry Keizer began building liberty ships for the US 🇺🇸 Navy. JP Morgan met once a week with President Roosevelt in the White House and handled the financing of the war. William Boeing built the B29 Bombers of which one delivered the two Atomic Bombs to Japan.
