I think Cream showed that as a 3 piece you can put out bruilliantb music and they almost certainly paved the way for a great many rock threee pieces. Respct to Eric, Ginger & Jack

This is a true story. Back in October '68 I saw Cream at The Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston (tickets were $3, $4, $5, and $6). I don't remember what price mine were, but we were just happy to be there. Before the show began we hit the snack bar to load up on crap before taking our seats. While we were waiting our turn, some random dude walked by and said that we could see the band up close if we walked down to a roped off area a little further away. We followed his lead and came to a stairwell where we could see a little way downstairs. After standing there for a couple of minutes, we saw movement coming up the staircase towards us. There were 2 security guys standing close by, but that was it. We walked up to get as close to the ropes as possible, and stood there getting excited. After less than a minute, lo and behold, here they came. First came Jack Bruce, followed by Eric Clapton, followed by Ginger Baker. Jack and Eric just passed us by without so much as a glance in our direction. They all came within 2 feet of us on the way to the stage. Ginger walked by last, and he looked over and actually made eye contact with me (!) and sort of grinned at us as he walked by. They all must of thought "Who are these punk kids standing there staring at us?” as they passed by. We were all in 7th heaven though. Great show that night and this was one of the gems they played. I wish I’d asked Ginger for a drumstick or Eric for a guitar pick when we had the up close and personal moment with them. But I was too stupid and scared to try something like that. Absolutely true story though.

This song made me wanna learn guitar. I was into only rap but I heard this wah solo and thought “ I HAVE to learn how to do this”. Sitting in a Best Buy parking lot over 20 years ago with my dad because I passed my Algebra test, he told me he’d buy me two CDs if I did well on it, The Cream Of Clapton and The Hendrix Experience is what I got out of it. Life changing moment. RIP dad

When I listen to this Clapton, after more than 50 years since the first time, I still think there is not (nor will ever be) a better Clapton. What came after this in his career means very little in comparison, sorry....

Not enough praise is given to the lyrics - i understand the energy and musicianship overshadowed their lyrics - but they had their unique flavor and it was special. these two old musicians with Clapton - both Baker and Bruce look at Clapton as if they are children being given a gift. moments of this concert with Clapton playing are un-speakable. he survived everything to bring his life to this concert. here are the lyrics ... In a white room with black curtains in the station Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes Dawn light smiles on you leaving, my contentment I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves You said no strings could secure you at the station Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows I walked into, such a sad time, at the station As I walked out, felt my own need, just beginning I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves At the party, she was kindness in the hard crowd Consolation for the old wound now forgotten Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings I'll sleep in this place with the lo-onely crowd Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves

I own 1959 Les Paul number 9 0188....it is a bogus, Chinees versio of it a frriend bought for me as a gift for working on his guitars . It is a fake Gipson with fake serial number but made quire well, three peace body of unknown wood but front covered with beautiful curly maple veneer, imaculate paint work and back covered with mahogany veneer. I've changed pick ups to antiquity S. Duncan, changed electronics , put on a Gotoh bridge and set it up to my liking because I can and know how to. Is it good? Maybe not as good as 1959 but just as good as any Les Paul . I own original, heavy 1979 white LP so, fake but good '59 Chipson is quite welcome.
