I notice you are clearing your throat often -why is that?
@frank_umm
@frank_umm 8 күн бұрын
@peggyjohnson1848 Probably the salsa I just ate...? I cannot say for sure Either way, as mentioned, I don't have any debilitating symptoms. Clearing throat, heartburn, nausea, etc., are all very, very rare and triggered by what I might eat. But I don't have any other symptoms and they really only show up when I am asking for it and ate some spicy salsa or similar.

Did you lose weight due to the hiatal hernia before your surgery?
@frank_umm
@frank_umm 29 күн бұрын
@kevint5793 yes, but it was more due to diet changes and trying a vegan diet. Having the symptoms I had and the fact that I didn't enjoy eating the foods i was eating, led to losing about 10 lbs or so.

I am a physique athlete and want to do this surgery as i am unable to live a normal life. Even if i do the surgery ill have to be back in shape no matter what. So Frank my man what would you recommend me should i undergo a surgery and is it necessary to do a TIF ?

I'm scheduled for the combination hernia repair and TIF procedure next month. GERD has been an 18 year long battle for me, with countless procedures, medications, even hospital stays. At this point, I can not lay flat, ever. I sleep sitting almost all the way propped up, due to my LES not closing, plus the hernia, allowing all stomach contents to come back up. I have stomach acid come up so bad it enters my mouth, burns me and chokes me until I can't breathe due to the severe burning. I've gone through all the required testing for surgery. Manometry, esophagram (swallow study), pH study. My Demeester score was the highest my GI doc has ever seen. Even suffering through all that I have, I'm still so nervous and apprehensive about the surgery. My question to you, do you feel like it was worth it? With all the difficulties post-op, did it really truly get better? Understanding of course you're not a doctor, so I wouldn't ask for the medical side of it being recommended, but from a patient perspective, would you recommend the surgery?

When I had my hernia repaired I could not eat solid foods without fighting to swallow for at least a month. I dropped from 178 to 150 lbs. I often had hiccups a lot. If I tried to eat too much at once I would have to spit it back up. I think it took several months for me to even get back to eating normal food. Now 6 months later. Reflux is back with a vengeance. My throat feels like it has been sandpapered as I type. My voice is so hoarse. I have gone days without food due to suffering nausea. My wife is an RN and her bitch is surgeons who just want to cut. So I get no support from her. Only bitching about unnecessary surgery. She has no idea how bad I feel. It doesn't matter what I eat. I suffer from heartburn.

You know what strikes me as funny (not haha funny), I’ve noticed that men tend to get this kind of thing taken a lot more seriously and addressed quickly than women do. I have had reflux symptoms for more than 20 years, and doctors basically tell me nothing’s wrong, it’s all in my head, take some more omeprazole! I’ve even had my main doctor tell me that I must have a low tolerance for pain…even though I got through labor and delivery without meds and without making a peep! I’d like to see HIM do that!

It’s been recommended that I have the surgery like Frank had, however I’m going to decline after seeing the misery that he’s endured and his nervous system sounds like a post surgery occurrence, sounds like something new that Frank didn’t have before. I’m relativly healthy other than acid reflux which can be managed with antacids and moderately watching what and how much I eat. Frank you don’t look very healthy after one year out, you looked much healthier before. Thanks for letting us hear how it went and I hope e you totally recover. What is the parasympathetic nervous system? Your parasympathetic nervous system is part of your autonomic nervous system. It could be called your “automatic” nervous system, as it’s responsible for many functions that you don’t have to think about to control. This can include control of your heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, urination and sweating, among other functions. The only way your Parasympathetic nervous system could have been damaged is through trauma such as a severe blunt accident, however, since this followed your surgery then it’s safe to say they cut some of the nerves that control this automatic nervous system, doubtful that it will recover especially if the nerves were severed. you might consider a law suit.

Thanks for the compliment...😕 or not. Not sure if you just want a response, or what you are after, but careful about what you say about what I look like and that 'I don't look healthy'. Maybe you were not after attacking what I look like but just know that I won't deal with nonsense or trolls and can make comments go away with the snap of a finger. I am not making videos to be judged on what I look like. I do it to try to help people understand what my journey was like and what I went through so they are aware what they might expect if they do it. Maybe it helps, maybe it does not, and maybe, like you, they decide not to go through the surgery, but all i am after is trying to help and share some of the things I went through. After I was cleared from restrictions. I started to be able to eat normally again and lift weights and exercise. I had lost about 15-20 lbs due to the surgery and diet restrictions but slowly and safely, I put the weight back on and added 5-10 lbs of muscle mass. So while you might think I dont look healthy, please keep the negativity about my body to yourself. I could show you what truly look like after putting the weight and muscle back on but I dont need to. I dont exercise for anyone to see what I look like with my shirt off. I do it for me. Looking unhealthy was hard for me mentally and physically and if someone attacks how I look, I am going to take exception. I dont need or want to hear that. If someone expects not to lose weight or look 'sickly' after this surgery, I would say they are fooling themselves. Weight loss is just going to happen, unless your doc does not give you such stringent diet restrictions. Even then, weight loss is just going to happen imo. Watch more of my recent videos to see how i am doing now. 2 year update - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3THqZ6BoJeEjZI 900+ day update - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWHFqnaAl5uZebM I'd say I am MORE than recovered at this point. As I believe i mention in some videos, I feel very normal at this point. I am not stupid, so i don't go and drink jalapeno juice but when I indulge in something spicy in excess, I am just asking for it, which any human on this planet would have to deal with and is very normal. Beyond that, I am very normal and feel better now than I did before surgery and before the reflux issues became unbearable. Even when reflux was just more manageable (10+ years ago), I was taking more antacids (Zantac, Tums, etc.). I dont ever take these any more as I just don't need to. I'd go through the surgery again and again if i had too. Sure, the diet and exercise stuff was hard and yes, I had some complications, but I was able to get through it with time and with the surgery and medication I was prescribed, I have felt more normal than I have in many years.

@@frank_umm Frank I’m very sorry I wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt your feelings, you are overall a very handsome man IMHO. I was actually very concerned about the issue with your parasympathetic nervous system, which controls the body automatic regulations, such as digestion, bowel movements etc. sounds like they may have cut or damaged some of those nerves. However I’m just speculating as in the videos I watched you declined further comment on that topic, which is a huge reason for me to consider the risks to benefit in my situation. I’m very happy to hear that you are doing well at this time, I haven’t watched all your videos just some of the first ones and then one year out so I’m sure I missed lots of information. Thank you and again I meant no disrespect and apologize because my words obviously made you feel bad, you are a handsome man, thanks for sharing with people like myself who are considering this surgery. And for the record I didn’t insinuate that you were unattractive but rather that you looked less healthy in the one year out video than you did at the time of surgery, i was talking about healthy as opposed to beauty… you may have simply misunderstood that.

Listening to you makes me afraid to have surgery. My hiatal hernia is causing me to be anemia because they found erosions on my hernia which is bleeding and making me iron deficient anemia. For four years they didn't know where I was bleeding from, but now they know it's from the erosions. Im tired of getting iron infusions every month or two.

What was your original issue prior to any of this surgery? How are your after surgery symptoms 2 years now afterwards? Have you been screened for other disease/causes since your original surgery? See the title of the post (hiatal hernia). I am doing fine now. I had numerous tests, blood, endoscopy, colonoscopy, etc., etc. Nothing abnormal. I did have my gallbladder removed in Feb 23. I am not an insurance company so have no idea why Linx is is not covered. From what I heard, the newness of the tech is primarily a reason. I had a TIF and hiatal hernia repair.

Frank, I am so happy you are feeling better. I had the TIF 4 months ago and just by chance I watched your 4 month video. The TIF surgery is as you know a major surgery no matter how you dice it. I think that is what most people underestimate. I have had more ups then downs. But now I seem to be ignoring the information and directions that were given. The surgery is supposed to be complimented by changing your diet for the rest of your life. I am specifically talking about eating slower and less at one setting. I am horrible about this. I have now eaten everything that I did before. But with caution. Like now I have bloating and when I eat (TOOO Fast) I get a instant flush feeling and my nose plugs up. And also a horse throat. But I feel fine in the morning. I need to see the Doc to see if this is an adjustment and I need to straighten up or maybe hypersensitivity , gastric emptying or hopefully nothing broke. Please don't think that I am referring to you. Just putting this out there for any readers. My post diet was so different from what I had read from other. 5 days soft and two days liquid before the surgery. Soft diet for two weeks after until my follow up. Then I was pretty much released to medium soft foods as long as I chewed them well. I hope this was a good choice from the Doc. I did get esophageal spasms from time to time from trying to swallow too much by accident. One will learn quickly. I call it the log dry heave! Anyway Thanks for posting your videos. Very informative!

I am like you. I eat a lot and quick and I flush and my nose congests as well as it becomes harder to breathe, my diaphragm stops me from breathing. Just like you, I feel fine before eating in the morning. I have no surgery, I've just started trying PPIs. I'm 90 kg and 168 height though. I have a lot of excess weight. What could the issue be? Would I need surgery? And if I lose weight etc could I live with this with lifestyle adjustments?

So i just had imaging done for my hiatal hernia. Now i was told i had one 2yrs ago... (this is now my third hernia, first 2 were in a lower part of my abdomen) well i started losing weight and i was having issues swallowing and having trapped air. Belching didnt help with what felt like a balloon under my rib cage. (Still having that feeling) i have gerd (i am on a daily med for that as well), however i am having more issues than i did 2yrs ago. Fast forward to today, they do all the imaging again, and my hiatal hernia has pretty much doubled in size! And on top of that i was told i have what is called a sliding hiatal hernia... so my question here is, what started your journey? Was it the hiatal hernia? Orrrr.....

I came across your videos after I made a decision to opt out of surgery and, MAN, am I glad I did. I am involuntary host to Horace the Horrible which is what I named the massive hiatal hernia that has been a source of more symptoms than I can count on one hand. I suffer from symptoms ranging from GERD, COPD, arrhythmia, emphysema, asthma and more, but I have actually not been diagnosed with any of those diseases/conditions by any of the myriad specialists I have sought out. Cardiologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists are coming up negative on any of those suspected cases but they all agree that Horace has a hand in all of it. So I said let’s get rid of him and checked in for possible surgery. I was going in willingly until I saw the consternation on the faces of experienced surgeons who had looked at images of a cross section of my chest showing that Horace takes up a goof portion of my left lung and is awfully close to the heart. At 84 I’m twice as old as you are which, even if the surgery had been successful, would probably have meant twice your recovery time. You do the math!
