$0 fix works for UN55D6500VFXZA Samsung TV and other similar ones that click and don’t turn on when the power button is activated. If it turns out to be the 20V capacitors, then it’s a $5 fix!

Thanks for posting the video. I have a Samsung UN65JU6500 that wasn't clicking but initially showed symptoms of shutting down after about 30 minutes powered on and stay off for 10 to 15 minutes before restarting by itself and being good for the night. Recently it began doing this repeatedly every 30 minutes or so to the point it was almost unwatchable. Sometimes when I moved the TV on the wall mount it would cycle power. I found your video and went straight to work. Inspected capacitors and didn't see anything, removed the power board , flipped it over and found cracked solder joints at the transformer to board connections. Removed old solder and replaced with fresh solder. So far so good. Thanks again.

I ordered a repair kit and found this video while waiting for it to come in. Couldn't see any obvious problems on the PCB, and didn't see the problem joints till I watched this video and inspected the solder joints with a magnifying glass. It's not that obvious, but redoing those 2 joints fixed the TV and saved me lots of money. Many thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!

CHEERS!!!!!! I found one of a huge Samsung down at the corner. Carted it home. Got cables out of the attic. Used the cable remote to turn the Johnny on. It was GREAT for 6 minutes. It the cut off. Thank you!!!! What an easy fix. My TV started randomly turning off but would come back on. The frequecy of this increased and then just started clicking and wouldn't turn on. Found your video and was back watching in a couple hours. I'm a couple days in and the TV is going strong! For this many people to have the EXACT same problem, Samsung should be aware of this. I hope they've seen all of these comments! Your video was perfect! The only thing I would add is to show how to ground the board. I saw the clip on the circuit board but not the other end to see how you actually ground it.

Great that you’re actually found the video. A lot of people have not been able to find it. Please don’t forget to subscribe and like. Also for the grounding, it’s not absolutely necessary. It’s better in the dry winter months when there is static. It can pretty much be grounded to any object that is large enough such as a metal fridge or water pipe. But that’s about it.

Don't know if I have the exact same problem, mine tries to go on when I plug it in and goes through power cycles for ages. Thank you. Its a very useful lesson. Nice demo. May I, if you don't mind, ask you: What is the reason for those solder points to get cracked as in this case? Heating up?
@BrianDhvTinkerer
@BrianDhvTinkerer 5 жыл бұрын
The transformer leads get hot when the TV is running. The solder points for these transformers get the hottest. There is heating and cooling of the solder joints when the TV is turned off and on which causes mechanical stress from expansion and contraction of the solder. Because of government regulations, a lot of consumer electronics are using lead free solder which is very vulnerable to this thermal stress. Lead based solder handles this thermal stress much better. Eventually the joint cracks and the connection is broken.

The TV repairman that can even fix a TV. How about an Oscilliscope put on the out put of the Power Supply? I would love to see the different wave forms when capacitors are bad and when they are renewed with new capacitors. Effective Series Resistance? Capacitors in series passing either a low pass or a high pass capacitor inductor network or an LC network. A PWM controller chip that needs capacitors that are not blown sometimes. a 7522 PWM controller chip sometimes has bad capacitors and will not work eventually.

Can you explain what you mean by grounded. Why you put it on tinfoil and what those wires were connected to so that it was grounded
@BrianDhvTinkerer
@BrianDhvTinkerer 4 жыл бұрын
The grounding is not really essential but was just an extra precaution to prevent damage to the electronic components on the board by static electricity which can sometimes happen. What I did was I connected the ground pin of the board to the ground wire which is just basically the green wire on a three pin plug. But again I must add this is not really necessary and I just showed it in the video.

Check the jumper cables to make sure they are connected correctly. May be worth disconnecting and then reconnecting them back up

@@BrianDhvTinkerer tried it, but same. Looks like tv is on but the back light(that turns(brightens) on the screen) is not turning on. Is this the end? Or is there i anything else i can try..? I had this tv(same as urs) since fall 2011, and had been actively used for tv/pc screen.

Siddig Nageeb Check for other possible solder joint cracks. They can be very subtle and difficult to see. Check the electrolytic capacitors to make sure none of them are bulging, then replace.

I just resoldered all "iffy" joints and the relay is still clicking on my 55" Does that mean it's the actual relay?

JT Blackhawk most likely. Check that there are no bulging electrolytic capacitors first.

@@BrianDhvTinkerer I watched another video that specified the model I have has a particular small transformer on the corner that I missed the first time I looked over the board. The solder was definitely cracked. I'll update you when I fix those joints.

shark boy i bet its the same issue with fractured solder pad. I would try and identify the power board and try to find solder pad. This is an issue with lead free solder which the industry has been forced to adopt due to federal and state regulations.

well I got the back of it off right now.. when the relay kicks on and stays on. it sounds like it is kicking harder than when it does when the relay kicks on then right back off..
