Being prepared doesn’t have to break the bank. Using gear and materials I had laying around the house and in my barn we assembled a survival kit. We were able to cover all of our survival needs including food, fire, water, shelter, protection and first aid.
My daughter and I spent a rainy, cold 24 hours in a remote wilderness location in surprising comfort spending $0.

Great survival challenge! Fire in the barrel outstanding, like seeing how around the house items can work in a pinch for a short term survival situation in addition to items found out there. Thanks Jason

Hi Jason! You are the kind of dad, which every outdoorsman/woman wanted to have👌💪🙏. What a cool adventure and I think this will be the absolut right way to show your kids how one can survive without a lot of expensive gear. Thank you for sharing and as always all the best from Austria 🇦🇹🤠👍🏕🔥

Great job. Showing that common sense and a little bit of ingenuity can go a long way. Including our children not only teaches them skills but provides some quality time together. A win win.

Great survival vid Mr. Salyer. Dad made us did a similar challenge and it did rain all day & night but we got through it fine considering that we were allowed only a loaf of bread for food. The twins sneaked a jar of strawberry jam so that was some comfort. We had limited tools & other neccesities, but after the challenge we now know what is required when in the woods. We're not experts but quite competent in bushcraft survival from watching your channel & others. We watches as a family & share our experiences & ideas including personal views. Think dad did mentioned that you are our hero in a previous comment. Cheers Mr. Salyer & daughter.

Bless from 🇬🇧👍😎💪🌲🌳🌲🌳

It was a Dragon Invasion. Even if your daughter ends up in a foo foo life she will #1 remember these times with her dad. My dad has been gone 40yrs now. Still miss him & treasure our times together. #2 she will remember these outdoor skills. They will serve her well

No kidding! I actually thought about this premise (go with what you REALLY got on you/at home) when I read under the SD "chisel" vid, that you wouldn't be able to pick your gear if a real survival scenario started. Let's go!😁

If you can flip your knife holding clip on the other side so the blade is against the rear of your pocket , that way there is less risk of pulling on the blade while pulling out your hand out of the pocket when you reach for something else , some knives open up way to easily nowadays . Garbage bag are great but remember most of them have pesticides in them , you probably don’t want to breathe too close from it .

You brought the controversial little fire starter along too! Lol we all know she’s got an ignition source in her pockets somewhere. And you even had her carrying the bang stick? That’s going to upset some trolls for sure! I keep putting lighters on the shopping list and my Husband keeps bringing the BBQ ones home… I specifically said “bic lighters” thinking that would fix it, so he bought the name brand BBQ ones. less efficient in size but they still work.

How and why this vid has so few likes. Mr. Salyer makes the most realistic and practical videos ever! If any of my friends ask me for a source of survival content I always send them to those three channels: "On Three", "GBGB" and "Corporals Corner". All other are buffoons.

@@mississippihiker545 It's all about creating redundancy, like when you put together a survival kit.😂 Seriously: Sootch/Sensible Prepper did the same thing when he was a content creator for SD, he released the same video on SD and (with some delay) on his channel. It's about spreading the word.👍 I enjoy it, because I took a break from social media and missed some of the stuff Jason did on SD at that time.👋

Your first item would be off the list for most people in Oz, as firearms are banned except for approved and very limited activies (not counting the illegal ones held by criminals of course). The rest seem to be reasonable for the average "Joe", except for the pre-made "Bivy Bag", but you could have just grabbed a tarp (I have a nice BIG one handy) and take some duct, Gorilla or building tape as yo have used and make the shelter up on the spot. How did you decide which of the kids was going to go with you?
