Hi thanks for the video. very helpful :) i just have a few question: do i have to noticeably turn my head when going past those driveways to show that i'm scanning and also how do i show that i am noticing the hazards?
@thedrivingtestguynsw84244 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily when examiners mark hazards then firstly there has to be an actual hazard. So if the side streets and driveways are empty then they don't mark any head movement.. However you still need to scan left and right looking for "actual" hazards. So when there is a car in a side street or driveway particularly if they are edging forward a bit and could potentially pull out in front of you then your scanning will notice this and you will need to show some "response" to this actual hazard. This will include such things as slowing, covering the brake or actually braking if the hazard is more substantial. So in summary you need to scan left and right (even though this head movement isn't marked) to find actual hazard that will be marked with a response.

Hi Foxymardy, I would love to do test route vids but I would prob get hassled by Service NSW. However here are some pointers. Be familiar with getting out of the test center car park. It can be hell. Also turning right in front of the Goodyear tyre place(near Gregory Hills Bunnings) can be tough, practice that. Also practice the roundabouts in Smeaton Grange, you may go in there. Lots of trucks in there. You may also head over to Narellan. Practice the lights near Hungry Jacks particularly turning right without a green arrow. There is a new course that goes over to Gledswood Hills, be careful when on The Hermitage it is 50zone. The vid I did on Roundabouts was done in Smeaton Grange and uses some of the same roundabouts on the test routes there. Hope this helps :)

Hi there. I think it's important to wait til the car on your right goes so you can see if there is any risk of collision with any traffic hidden behind that car. Particularly if you are turning left. Hi Taylor the examiners no longer mark this head check. I think it caused too many fails and politics took over. Certainly do it in real life with large dual lane roundabouts. Quick question that isnt fully related to the video, when turning left or right onto a street (for example, turning left onto a road with no lines from a main road), do you have to give way to pedestrians or do pedestrians need to wait for you to finish turning?
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Жыл бұрын
Hi there you give way to people that are crossing the street you are about to turn into. So if you are turning left into a side street and someone wants to cross that side street then you should give way. This does create a hazard with cars coming up behind you who might not have noticed that you have stopped in front of them.

Hi Do I need to check over shoulder along with signaling left in a double lane roundabout when exiting from the right lane. Please advise. Thanks kindly
About 1:25, suppose Car A approaches the roundabout from 9 o'clock, before Car B at 6 o'clock. You mention that according to rule, Car B should give way to Car A, though it does not happen. Do I understand the "does not happen" part correctly that, the "scenario" mentioned above does exist and the rule suggests that the "first one to approach (even if from left) has the right of way", however in practice drivers act against this, causing Car A to give way to Car B, and Car B to enter the roundabout assuming he has the right of way? If this is the case, and you are at 6 o'clock, with a steady stream of cars from 3 o'clock (which are not held back by any cars from their right), how long should you wait before you enter?
@thedrivingtestguynsw84243 жыл бұрын
Hi Learner yes you are describing what actually happens. Just know there is no "right of way". It's always interpreted as who "gives way". I often use instead of "right of way" the term "priority" as this shows the other side of "who gives ways". With the roundabout what should happen is that your Car B (6oclock)you should approach the roundabout with the mindset of giving way to your car A (9oclock) because Car A will be able to enter it first. But it never plays out that way. Car A always gives way to Car B. I don't know why they don't rewrite the rules. To answer your question, if you are at the roundabout with a steady stream of cars entering from the right then don't go. Enter as I explain in the video.

Hey Jimbo, a question about entering roundabouts, say its fairly busy with cars waiting on the right to go in and incoming cars coming into the roundabout from opposite direction, do you have to wait for the incoming car, that is going straight to fully exit or can you go when its halfway in the roundabout and you know its going straight?
@thedrivingtestguynsw84243 жыл бұрын
Hi James if the oncoming car is starting to exit then yes go. You need to get the timing right. If you wait til that car fully exits then you will miss this opportunity.

Hi Dominic my thoughts on the exit signal are that even though examiners don't mark single lane ones you should still do it as it helps you to make it habit so you don't forget to do it on the dual lane ones that are marked.

As a learner who has had a lot of close calls on roundabouts this was so helpful! I often get really stuck if there are no cars turning off to block the flow of traffic, like if the ones on the roundabout keep going around to exit on the left and the ones to my right are all going straight, how do you know when to enter the roundabout then??? I hate having to just find a small gap in traffic and floor it into the roundabout, shoving myself in because it feels so risky!! Are there any tips for that? Tysm!

Hi Anthea yes when roundabouts are busy they can be hard to get into. Sometimes you can be waiting for a while. Practice makes perfect and in time you will get better at entering these by getting the timing right.

Jim, if you find yourself approaching a standard two lane, 4 exit roundabout in the outside lane and you realise you should be in the inside lane, can you legally change to the inside lane on the roundabout, between the first & second exits (so you can make a right turn), if you can do so safely and without impeding any other vehicles? Hi Jimbo, I had my exam today. Unfortunately I wasn’t successful due to immediate fail item. I am still confused with the scenario: I was instructed to take the first exit. I saw a white car (it was on the 4 o’clock position) blocking the way for the grey car coming from my left , so I took the chance and immediately started to proceed. By the time I was almost out towards exit, the grey car entered. Could you let me know what I did wrong? 🥺 Also while leaving the kerb, I have counted 5 seconds indicator, head check and proceeded yet got a signal error. 🥺

mate nicely explained..there always a confusion with the rules stating "give way to all cars in a roundabout" ..why to give way to ones at 1-2 o'clock when you have saf gap !
@thedrivingtestguynsw84242 жыл бұрын
Hi Vinayak it's more give way to car in the roundabout if there is a risk of collision, so that's why cars at the 1 o'clock position are not a risk of collision so you can enter before they get to 3 o'clock.

Few questions here, At 6:04 you are staying in the right lane, on my test should I get in the left lane or just stay in the right? (I'm doing my test in Gregory Hills. I figure the road is not long and should be okay to stay in the right) At 6:46 you change lanes after turning off the roundabout. Is it okay if you don't indicate for 5 seconds before changing lanes there because you are about to run out of space? At 5:47 if that car had taken off quicker and crossed that white line, should you still go? Sorry for being a nuisance, just want to make sure. Thank you
@thedrivingtestguynsw84244 жыл бұрын
Hi NoAustralianbias thank you for your questions. At 6:04 yes i am staying in right hand lane because of the parked cars further up. In Smeaton Grange with the dual lanes there are always parked cars in the left lane. (the rule keep left doesn't apply unless the speed limit is over 80km/h). So its ok to stay in the right lane. At 6:46, the 5 second signal rule is only for leaving the kerb, so a few flashes in that tight space for the lane change will be ok for the test. Make sure you cross after those thicker lines unless the parked cars are too close and there is no room. If that is the case then you can cross over them if there is no room. At 5:47, yes if that white car was off the mark quicker then it wouldn't be safe. I had a very narrow window to get going. If you miss the gap, leave it and look for another. Hope this helps.

@maxgibson76624 жыл бұрын
how early do you need to indicate when coming up to an intersection and how long do you have to indicate for when diverging?
@thedrivingtestguynsw84244 жыл бұрын
Hi Max the testing officers manual says in relation to signalling and turning to give "sufficient warning". That is pretty subjective. Just do at least 5 seconds before you turn. Be careful with left turns though. If there is a street or busy commercial driveway close to your left turn then dont signal left until you have passed this driveway. When diverging, signalling at least 3 flashes will be sufficient. Do this prior to actually diverging.
