0058 - Heathkit ET3100 : Just Dandy!.

A quick look at the vintage Heathkit ET-3100 electronic design experimenter. Nearly a lab by itself, just add a scope and a DMM. These can be had for little money in working condition, and even less if you are okay to do some simple repairs.

I have this exact same model plus the 3200 you mentioned from a electronics course I took in the mid 80's. I had to assemble the units as part of the course. Additionally I have model IO-4105 oscilloscope which I also assembled and used for the course. All 3 are sitting here with me right now and I built a clock the other day from a 555 and all 3 are still functioning flawlessly...Still so much fun!

Verry cool! I built a ET-3200 as part of a Heathkit course I did in 1979. A couple of years later I also built an IO-4105 oscilloscope. I gave both of them away in the early 90's to a young student of electronics before we moved to a different town. I got a lot of use out of both of them over the decade or so I had them. Been looking for an IO-4105 but the shipping on them is a killer (in more ways than one, I imagine).

Quick prototyping of small circuits. This one is especially handy for linear stuff. There is another model more suited to digital. I'll be doing a video on that one soon.

I used to sell Heathkit stuff, and for the price they were great. I doubt that today there is much demand for such kits, ...sad! :(

I think you're right. It's such a shame but the whole electronics hobby supply chain seems to have taken a serious nosedive. Now there are a lot of copycat Arduino kiddies calling themselves "makers". Or is that passé now too?

I once had hopes the UNO craze would bring back the electronics hobby, but it's seems not :( It's also sad that some of the UNO stuff out there does not properly explain the external electronics much either, including the mosfet! I have also seen some really crap circuits as well. I am a brilliant programmer, my career, but my first love is electronics, in which I am mediocre at best, but it seems way better than some of the UNO dickheads out there, and don't get me started on the software side of it! :)
