Simple electronics kit build: A little gadget, that is supposed to alert you when the ambient light is out of optimal range - it will sound when it's too dark, and when it's too bright :)
It has unusual implementation of IR LED to detect high light level, but it does work. It's more of a learning kit rather than a practical thing, but it was fun to build!

Ah I figured out how the low light part of the circuit works. The photo diode is designed to have a filter so it only responds to IR. Part of that is the dark casing, but it also stops responding at all if it gets too much normal light. So in low light conditions, the photo diode finally sees the IR led and turns on.

I reckon it would be a great device to warn you if the ambient light level is too high, or it is too low.

My gawd that is horrible solder that you are using. You need to increase your tip temperature to compensate, as your joints are really "blobbed" on rather than the solder amalgamating properly.

It's the new tip, which I never used before. Too low temperature, I should have increased the temp a bit and it would be ok. Well observed :)
