Thanks Matt I have used several of your tutorials working on my wife's toy a 2005 turbo gt convertsble just under 160,000 kms most put on drving from northern Alberta to Arizona trying to dodge a bit of our winter. Was able to do this under half an hour thanks to your well presented instructions. Charles

Thanks, Matt. I need to change out the multifunction switch in my 01 PT Cruiser. I watched your video several times and think I can do it. At 67 and a girl living on SSI I try to do things myself. That switch does a lot of things. It drains my battery if the key isn't shut off just right, it makes beeping noises and is responsible for other things. So, wish me luck!
@CarswithNash3 жыл бұрын
I do wish you luck, but actually it’s a pretty simple job, I think you’ve got this!👌 But by your symptoms I would also recommend changing the ignition switch, that is not the part the key goes in but the part on the other side of the column which is the electronic part the key turns. Anyways if you scroll through my PT cruiser repair playlist you will find a video on that replacement as well and the part is very cheap, but it can cause some of the symptoms that you are describing and I recommend changing it on a higher mile PT. You will find it easier to change that at the same time as the multifunction switch as the initial steps are the same.

I remember the Neon I had went through one of these. The entire connector for the MFS was fried, actually (the grey connector with the little black strip). Could still use left blinker and everything else, but try and use the right blinker once and it'd pop that fuse almost immediately. Sometimes you could smell it burn, too.

Hi Matt!Love your channel, learn alot from you ! I have an 02 Pt limited,the switch has extra lights down below for fog .I had to pull the fuse cause they would stay on and kill my battery. Any suggestions besides buying a new switch assembly. Possibly rebuild? Turn signals work fine.Any help is appreciated. 😎

I believe you can pry them apart and clean up the contacts, put some new dielectric grease in there and put it back together. I have done it with other switches before.

@Matt's Garage Ever hear of a multifunction switch causing parasitic draw? Been dealing with a battery situation where battery dies. Battery is new now, alternator keeps testing good. Haven't done any parasitic draw testing, BUT have had issues with the left/right turn and brights. Brights easily fall out to normal. When turning right, kills brightened brightened consol lights. Have seen other issues with the consol backlights blink on and off. Been doing it more recent. Should mention that bright light problem has existed for over 8+ years. Probably needs replaced regardless, just trying to narrow things down. EDIT: Also know of recommendations to check out the ignition switch.
@CarswithNash7 ай бұрын
I have not heard of them causing a parasitic draw and I don't think they should because all power should be off to everything except the headlight switch when the key is off. I guess it's possible it's leaking power through the headlight portion of the switch. It does sound like your switch needs replacing in any case. The ignition switch can cause funny light issues as well, I had flickering dash lights and I believe headlights also on one and the ignition switch fixed it. A commenter recently told me that the brake light switch is a common cause of parasitic draws and I know the door switches can also cause a parasitic draw. It can be a bit of a guessing game, fortunately most of those parts are pretty cheap. Try to let me know if you get it figured out and that way I can pass the information on to other people.

Hello Matt. I started looking to purchase my first PT Cruiser about a month ago. Researching them I came across your vids and subscribed. I'm very impressed with your knowledge and how you present your solutions so clearly. Well, yesterday I pulled the trigger and bought my first PT - a '05 LE Turbo convertible. I purchased it from a private owner that took exceptionally good care of it with full maintenance records. The only issue is the AIRBAG light on the dash is lit. The owner said he thought the problem was in the multifunction switch and he had ordered a new one but had not had the time to install it. He gave me the new switch with the car, still in the box. Do you think this may be the cause and cure for the dash light? Like I said, I just got the car yesterday (I don't even have legal tags for it!) so I haven't been able to check for any codes yet. I do plan on taking it to my trusted mechanic to have him go over the car preemptively and change all the fluids, check for wear, etc,etc. but that might not be for a few weeks.
@CarswithNash3 жыл бұрын
Actually no the multifunction switch shouldn’t be connected to the airbag in anyway. There are several components in the airbag system so the best would be to scan the car and see what code is showing. Hopefully it’s an easy fix. Thanks for your kind words and enjoy your new Cruiser!(-:

Greetings from Greece. I own a 2004 PT cruiser 1.6 and I have an issue with the multifunctional switch " 04671872AD " but I can't find a replacement. Maybe its reley " 04671715AC" gone bad.... I was suggested to replace it with another vehicle's switch without having the fog lights working . Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance
@CarswithNash2 жыл бұрын
Typically it’s the switch. You might be able to take that switch apart and clean the contacts, I’ve done that with some obsolete switches before. I assume it’s just a matter of where you live that’s the issue since the switch is readily available elsewhere in the world.

Hi! What type (OEM number) is the new swich? I 'm asking, cause there are many types of those switches and all "fited", but I can't find no one for my car with REAR and FRONT fog lights. Every switch, I was able to find, swiched rear fog light ONLY, but no one front fog llights..
@CarswithNash3 жыл бұрын
We only have front fog lights here in Canada, although I have a Mercedes that does have a rear fog light, they are not a normal thing here though. The car I’m working on in the video has neither actually so that number would not help you. Sorry wish I could help you more.

My front wipers come on when I push the button to wash the back wipers. All wipers are going at once. Do you think the switch is the cause?

That would be my guess but I can’t say for sure, I can’t think of anything else that would cause that though.

Hi Matt...I really need your help!! My tail lights, break lights and dash lights do not work. I've checked the bulbs and the fuses they are fine. What else can I check? With your awesome video I replaced the ignition switch recently...thanks again😁 Could it be the multi function switch? I'm so frustrated Lol. Seems to me the likely cause would be the multifunction switch, but I can’t say 100% or in other words I don’t want you to blame me if that isn’t the problem lol! I think the only other thing that can cause that is a bad body control module, but I think the multi function switch is a lot more likely. Good luck and when you get it solved if you wouldn’t mind replying here again so I know for sure what the fix was and can share that with others in the future.

You've been a big help to me and I appreciate you very much.👍😃 Where is the body control module located...incase it's not the multi function switch? Hi Matt 🤗 I wanted to let you know that I didn’t have to change out the multifunction switch after all. When I checked the fuses the first time I only checked the fuses under the hood, thinking it was the stop light fuse that controlled the tail lights. I found out that the #2 in the interior fuse box was the one I should’ve checked. And guess what? There was no fuse in #2 🤔!!! I put a new fuse in and Tah-Dah…all the back lights and dash lights work again! I was sabotaged!!🤬 I only had one person work on my car recently…My Ex-Husband 🤨 Now I just have the right break light that’s out. The bulb is fine, the wires are fine and have power. I’m going to change out the light socket. Boy what a time I’ve had with the lights. And it was just a missing fuse! I thank you again for all your help Matt! You’re just awesome 😃

I have an 04' pt cruiser and the driverside rear blinker blinks fast but the bulbs and fuses are fine, could it be my turn signal switch?
@CarswithNash4 жыл бұрын
Thommas Griggs I think it’s unlikely the switch is at fault, I’d try to replace the bulb that is blinking fast first, even if it works it could be the issue. It’s weird that it is just one corner of the car, typically if it was the switch or flasher it should effect one side (front & rear). Another thing it could be is a dirty ground, it’s always a good idea to clean up all the ground points on a PT, as in take the connection apart and wire brush etc to clean it, I spend half a day doing that every time I get a PT, saves a lot of electrical issues.

I have a 2005 or cruiser with a directional issue. The rear passenger side does not light and front passenger side blinks fast. I replaced bulb in rear, changed fuse, and still nothing changes. Where could my problem be? Help!!

I need your help Matt! I changed the multifunction switch and not only do my headlights don't work but now my turn signals don't work!
@CarswithNash3 жыл бұрын
Willie Castro First double check the fuses for those items, also be sure the plugs are fully plugged into the new switch. Aside from that you likely got a faulty switch, it does happen. Maybe try moving it thru the functions with the key off a bunch, it might be something as simple as too much assembly grease on a contact or something so you might get lucky and clear the contact if you cycle it thru the functions a few times. Good luck!
@williecastro35233 жыл бұрын
@@CarswithNash I thought dielectric grease was good for a switch or electrical connection.
@CarswithNash3 жыл бұрын
Willie Castro Dielectric grease is actually nonconductive, meaning it does not enhance the connection, it is intended to insulate the connection that is made to seal it from water intrusion and corrosion.
