On 1-20- 1962, my granddad drove the snowplow on his pick up, in front of my dad, with my mom in labor, in the back seat of his station wagon, telling him to hurry to Mt. Shasta hospital! I was born that night at 9:30, just inside the hospital Er. Dr. Thompson was down the street playing cards and drinking with his friends 🤪The snow storm was the biggest one on record. Snow level up to the roof eaves that year! Stay safe everyone!

@@Samuel-I Wow, you just brought an amazing memory back when I was 8 and my brother and mother were on the college tour circuit, looking for the ideal school for my brother to attend. They were in a 1965 Mustang and were barely able to stay on the road without slipping and sliding. They finally decided the heck with it and ended up pulling off the road and got the last motel room and they felt so lucky to be safe and off treacherous and neary impassible roads. At one point, they had passed a tanker truck that was fully on fire shortly before they found lodging. My brother and mother are now long gone, but any memory brought back of them is a positive one for me.

Many years ago, I was stuck in a white out, it's terrifying! I had my lights on and so did the guy coming toward me, but we couldn't see each other until we were six feet apart. Thank God for headlights and slow driving, we prevented a bad accident they day. God must have been looking over my shoulder.😀

One time on a mountain pass near Idaho, we had almost zero visibility. A big pick up passed me, snow flying every where, and just a couple of minutes later, a snow plow went flying by in the oncoming traffic and would not have had a chance to avoid the collision with pick up truck had it been there.

@@fit4ya1975 This assumes that the weather predictions out in the west are always right, which those of us who live in the west know that weather is unpredictable sometimes. There are areas where to travel less than 50 miles away from a destination can put you into a completely different climate and weather pattern. It’s easy to get “caught”, you have to just do the best you can to get through it. You don’ t always have the opportunity to just stop and wait it out.

Yes. I got stuck driving thru one outside of Rock Spings on way to CO. Snow was whipping from every direction. I think they called it a snow tsunami. I was grateful for the truckers headlights or Id have never made it.

Yep, that's a good old white out. I'm a 67 year old woman. I've been a school bus driver for 40 years and I live in rural Minnesota. So you know that over the years, I've seen and been in those conditions. Never once in 40 years did I not make it. I'm retired now, and enjoy those white outs from the comfort of my home.

It was like that at my house too. I live about 40 miles north on I-5 in Hornbrook, California. Round 3 will arrive around 1:00pm on Wednesday January 27,2021. It is supposed to be worse. Will see. Looks like I don't get my home heating fuel delivery today. They do my area on Wednesday's.

That's just a light dusting, there are driving practices for those weather conditions, where I live we put on studded snow tires, keeping the right side tires on the rumble strips or the gravel helps you know where you are on the road. It's easier when you grow up in the snow belt

They do in the Canyon, the stretch of I-5 between Dunsmuir to just north of Redding. They have gates at Fawndale road right before you head into the canyon via I-5 N (which is where they have it stopped now) and usually at Shasta city for people going south, but they stopped it near Yreka due to the blizzard conditions

I think it’s pretty good footage actually. It’s not all shaky like a lot of storm videos I’ve seen. Good editing. Good sound. Good narration. Good camera angles. He also included a lot of different scenes to show the scope of the storm. It might not be an award winning video but I’ve seen wayyy worse storm footage than this.
