I’ll add some tips from doing this. I used a crank sprocket pulley to get the crank sprocket off, made it a piece of cake. I used a large socket and a mallet to get it back on. I had to weld a nut to one of those bottom studs to get it out. The other one wasn’t rusty and took a E4 bit to remove. When putting the sprockets and chains back on I counted each link on the chain and each tooth on the sprocket to line it up. My chain had a black link to act as a timing mark. I divided the number of chain linked and added a second black link with sharpie at the opposite end of the chain, the new mark was a “half link” if you will. What I did was count each tooth and mark the top most tooth in the cam sprocket and the bottom most tooth on the crank. I lined the black link on bottom and black link on top with the marks on sprocket ensuring that i did not skip a tooth basically using simple math, took only a min and was for peace of mind. Got two quotes for the only shops who would agree to even do it. They wanted 1500-2000$ and claimed 11 hours of shop time… I’ll add this did not exactly fix the noise I was trying to solve which I think resides in the tranny. However my tensioner guide was brittle and snapped when I removed it so it was due. The parts fell In the oil pan and I had to use a coat hanger to get it out. I used blue locktite on the cam sprocket bolt. I installed a new clutch on the fan while I was doing this work. Another thing I learned doing this, when the timing marks are lined up it’s actually tdc for exhaust stoke. When the cam is 12 o’clock and crank is 12 o’clock that’s when tdc for compression happens. I figured that out using a ballon and compression test kit. Took the gage off and put ballon on. Watch d it fill up. Maybe that’s obvious to someone else but iv never done this and expected tdc for compression when the marks faced each other.

Got the same job going had a horrendous sound start pulling in from work one day, parked it and did some research i suspected the timing chain so i took the cover off amd the tensioner was broke what looks like one solid peice. My question is how do i know if its jumped time and or bent valves if so how do i set it on installation
@deckerdoesitdiy
@deckerdoesitdiy 4 ай бұрын
If the chain didn't break you are probably ok with it not jumping time. If you have any bent valves it would make a really loud pecking on the upper part of the head. Just make sure the dot on the crankshaft and the hole on the cam gear are in line with the new chain and tensioner and you will be fine, I how this helps and thanks for watching.

Just finished mine after cracking the cover and braking a tensioner bolt but got everything welded and replaced good as new but I don’t recommend doing this if your not very handy with working on cars this isn’t very easy and absolutely do not crack the timing cover it is literally impossible to find or buy anywhere literally no one carries it
