Man I appreciate this video I fixed my heat problem just by watching. The crazy part is I took my truck to two different mechanics one told me he had to take my dash apart and the other one charged me for a thermostat🤬. But I watched your video and fixed it myself. Thanks a lot

This video just saved me alot of trouble in locating this actuator.. Many thanks man! I actually found that there was nothing wrong with my actuator.. My daughter sits in the middle and the cover didn't come with the truck when I had bought it. My daughter accidentally unplugged the power to the actuator preventing it from working and thus is why I had hot air! :-p

A mechanic charged me $920 for this repair a few years ago. He said they had to "remove most of the AC from under the hood to access to the pneumatic actuator". This was on a 1999 GMC Sierra. I hated spending the month, but I needed AC in Phoenix heat in July.

if your heat was staying on no matter what, then your blend door was stuck open. and in my comment above, i mention it. but the blend door, not mode door which is what this video explains, is near the heatercore hoses and does requires removal of a lot of stuff to access, and is very labor intensive and time consuming

I have a question. I saw this video and watched you plug it in and watched the actuator move both left and right. I just bought one for my truck (I have a 02 GMC Sierra so it's the same set up) and did the same thing, but it only moves in one direction.. towards the heat. Does that mean it's a bad actuator or a bad control module at the dash? How do you check to see if the Control Module isn't working the way it should? Because I can switch it to hot and cold, but only goes to hot. The actuator doesn't even attempt to go to the other direction. Any help would be great. Thanks

Good video. Except I would not rely on the part# given. Dorman 604-112 and 604-106 as an example will all fit and are all identical. They are model specific. Best to pull out part, cross reference the part # on the actuator to the Dorman by simply typing in the part # on the part itself into a google search.

Ok I am not entirely sure if my issue is the same, I am thinking not. My issue is I can't get my truck to change which vents its blowing out of. When I move it from floor, to midvents, to defrost it doesn't change, is this the part I need to replace? Never mind figured out its the Mode Selector Actuator, sounds not as easy as this though, lol.

Very helpful video! I'm trying to fix my ol mans '01 silverado 1500. The AC/cold air is only blowing out of the defroster. If i turn it to vent with temperature set to cold the air is HOT.. same with the feet the air is HOT when it should be cold.. the air is hot on every setting except the defrost setting. I know the blend door (not blend door actuator) is rotating as it should when turning manually by hand. I ordered a new blend door actuator in hopes that its my problem im just not sure if it is because I'm able to get cold air & AC to come out of the defroster. Any help is appreciated!

James Ledesma go to the far passenger vent and pop it out. Stick a flashlight in there and look deep in there where the blower motor sits. Now watch and at the same time push the re-circulate and fresh air buttons. You may see a flap door moving and acting very weird and not staying all the way up. That was my problem right now. This is not the blend door actuator, this is the mode door actuator, it diverts the air to floor or dash vents, it has nothing to do with temperature control. if you have the key on and the air system on and turn the shaft you will discover this. The blend door, which blends the hot air with cooler air to be able to adjust the temperature when heat is on. It is located closer to the hoses on the heater core. the blend door is actually located else where on this year model which requires removal of the entire dash.

Anthony Hagan is that the one that is pointing to that you're talking about that controls the vents because mine is stuck on the defrost vent
@abelgonzalez5298
@abelgonzalez5298 6 жыл бұрын
Anthony Hagan there’s 3 of does in your truck the one the guy is showing than one right above of the drivers feet and one on top one for the temperature and one that make the air flow hard and slow and the one the directs the air to your windshield feet or to the front 👍🏾

I have a 2005 Sierra with constant heat on the driver's side, but the passenger side seems okay. I found a recalibration procedure on KZbin that didn't fix the problem. I decided to remove the actuator to have a look. While it was out but still plugged in I turned the key on and visually witnessed it go from far left position all the way to the right and back to the left again. I pulled the actuator apart and set it in the middle. Then I plugged it back in and watched it travel counter clockwise when the temp. was set to cold. Again I unplugged and pulled it apart and rotated it to middle position. With temp. set to hot this time I turned the key on; and again it rotated counter clockwise, so it doesn't matter if the temp is set to cold or hot the actuator wants to return to the left position. Do you think this is my problem, or is the climate control module telling the actuator to be at hot setting?
@CodytheCarGuy
@CodytheCarGuy 6 жыл бұрын
Your going to have to check the control module, usually the blend doors have broken gears or you hear some clicking that eventually will stop. I have had to change out one or the other over the years with different vehicles. Something is telling it to go in one direction, from a shorted blend door actuator to the control panel.
@jimdent351
@jimdent351 6 жыл бұрын
I got mine going. There were no broken gears on mine either. It's my understanding the ones that broke consisted of metal and plastic. the plastic would shrink a bit, but the metal wouldn't allow it to happen without cracking. My actuator gear is all plastic and in good shape. I disconnected the battery overnight, and went through the recalibration process this morning and it's working great now. Thanks for the reply.
