Honestly, I've never stopped loving this game, it's just that the donkey kong IP has just been mediocre at best for years, the only thing Nintendo ever does with it makes a game every couple of years if we're lucky, and then throw him in all the party games they make. This game was probably in the top 5 best Wii games I had as a kid, it's just Nintendo didn't let the donkey kong franchise bloom like it could have

Wow, they really remade this almost exactly, just with a slightly different timbre for the instruments (and DANG that piano glissando is just perfect). I also like the new part they added near the end; it feels so grand and heroic, like DKC really has...well, returned!

this was my first donkey kong country game i ever played. i remember learning how the game works, and all of a sudden, as im crossing the bridge and see the ship go by, i just hear 1:47, and i stop. this part gave me SO many chills. so i keep going. and i stop AGAIN, when the horns come in. at this point, i kill whatever enemies are on the screen currently, drop the controller, and just listen.

If we're talking strictly 2d platformers, then yeah Mario is outclassed. But including 3d platformers, Mario is in first place, no contest. I'd say that Mario would lap DK in that race too lol

@@EM7575 i don't think the 3d ones are that good to lap dk, especially with super midio odyssey. although dk64 sucks too so they balance each other out i guess. i'd say that dk wins vs mario if we include 3d, but it's close. if we include spinoffs though, mario laps bc dk spinoffs are straight cheeks. just my opinion tho

@@ecstaticwooper368 there are some comparatively mediocre 3d Marios, like 64 and Sunshine imo, but even those are pretty good games. Both Galaxies are the best ones, and Odyssey was good imo (esp when compared to the prior entry). Not saying that DK Country 1-3 and the 2 Retro-made games are bad. They are very very good. But I think when the 3d Marios are added onto the 2d ones, Mario is a tiny bit above DK. World and the first few new Super Mario games were also pretty good. With that being said, it's obviously just my opinion. I mostly just think they are neck-and-neck rather than thinking Mario outright wins. And I'll admit that I don't have the same nostalgia for DK as I do for Mario, so I guess I have a slight bias lol.

@@EM7575 eh i didn't think 64 was mediocre, actually quite cool, if rather flawed and frustrating, but yeah the galaxies were great, just not enough to carry the mediocre 2d games past dk imo. For me world and the new soup series were some of the worst offenders, they just do absolutely nothing interesting or unique. I don't got nostalgia for either (maybe a bit of new-stalgia for dkc2 but other than that nah) so this is probably unbiased other than the obvious opinionation of this discussion, but yeah, good talk. (also, just curious, what do you like about mario world? I personally have no clue what somebody could possibly like about that game but i know there has to be something i'm missing because, y'know, opinions)
