That's for posting, definitely helpful. Consider turning down the music or just omitting it next time. Was much louder than your voice. Again, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

I bought the same carb kit for my 026. When the weather moderates I will put it on and tune it. I am also putting a new intake boot on it with the carb. 25 years is enough time on an intake boot and my carb kit came with one. I checked the jets on the new carb and they were 1.5 T out on the L jet and 1.75 T out on the H jet. A little rich but I will lean them out when I get the saw running. You are right, the air filter latch on the the 026 is shorter than on the ms 260.

If it is an AM carb, hard to tel were you will end up on the adjustment.

Like your builds l love these older Stihl' I have 6 in my Collection. I love the big saws but my body doesn't. I love tinkering with them in my spare time. I need to find a 028 to freshen up.

Thanks! I have three 026's and one 024 super. I really like the bigger saws too. I have never ran an 028. I have ran an 031 and it was a good runner.

Thanks for the video, I'm about to do the same to my 026.

I'd recommend getting a Walbro Wt215 carb for it. They are around $30.

I have a leaking 036 tank vent. I reckon they’re not supposed to leak? They sure look like they want to leak being porous and all. Are they just a press fit? It’s hard to tell in your video. Thanks for posting.
@TractorTech4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a press fit. Look inside the tank where the vent is. There is supposed be an orange "valve", just a think piece of rubber. Here is an example of what it looks like. www.ebay.com/itm/183947745572 If this is missing, that will cause it to leak when it is turned on its side.

That makes sense. Thanks for the help!

Does the O28 av Woodboss have the same kind of tank vent?? Mines missing and of course gas leaks out of it all the time, don't even know what it's supposed to look like, whether it's a hose or a plastic thing like the one you put on in this video???
@TractorTech4 жыл бұрын
It looks like it has a hose with a special screw in it. Some newer saws use the same setup. Here it is on page 14, part numbers 13 and 14. www.motoculture-jean.fr/upload/pdf/028.pdf

where to buy carburetor and replacement parts please. I have an 026..got a price from tractor dealer to fix...charges exceeded the price of new saw.

What is wrong with your carb? Do you think you could rebuild it? Does it have 2 or 3 adjustment screws? If it only has 2 screws and you want to upgrade and or it needs replaced, get a Walbro WT194 carb. The 194 is the best carb for this saw. You can find them on ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-OEM-Walbro-WT-194-Carburetor-for-Stihl-024-026-MS260-024AV-024S/323662051194?epid=1801756033&hash=item4b5bc2f77a:g:v8IAAOSw9N1V1Kqr:rk:2:pf:0 I put an aftermarket carb on this saw and it is finicky. I would not recommend it. Get a fuel line when you replace the carb. Get the fuel line from the dealer. An aftermarket one will only last about a year. What other parts do you need?
@wayneblalock875 жыл бұрын
The 026 has been sitting up several years and probably gummed up. Dealer says a replacement is cheaper than rebuild. New hoses are a plus for sure. thanks for the link. Yes I can rebuild myself, just thinking a new one would save time on running saw. thanks for the reply.

If you have to pay someone to rebuild the carb, a new one would be cheaper. If you do it yourself a kit is cheaper. There are very small passages in the carbs and they can be tough to clean. It is really not worth it for a dealer to take the time to rebuild a carb and it still not run properly.

do you have a link for that carb? thanks price?

Does your saw have an intillcarb? If it does this one should work. www.ebay.com/itm/New-Carburetor-Carb-For-STIHL-024-026-MS240-MS260-Gas-Chainsaw-carby-USA/321809828994?hash=item4aed5c4c82%3Ag%3A6xUAAOSwlJlawvRt&_sacat=0&_nkw=026+carb&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313 If not you may be able to change the diaphragm cover.

Use those aftermarket parts at your own peril. Handles etc okay, but running parts NEVER!
