Better than arcade version. Great song!

Nah, it sounds more flat sounding than the Arcade version and that drum sound they used sounds weak and kinda lame. Honestly the Megadrive port could of sounded better imo.

@@Rtype90mk2 The Megadrive did lack HQ Drum Kit samples due to the YM6212 and PSG taking up most of the audio ram. The drum kit sounds on Sonic 1,2 and The Revenge Of Shinobi wasn't half bad. The SNES had better sounds overall as was fully PCM based.

@@jaggass I always thought the drums on Atomic Runner were some of the best percussion on the Mega drive and Midnight resistance.The Snes definitely had the better sound, when properly utilized.

@@Rtype90mk2 On the SNES all of the drum sounds on lots of games were very clean sounding where on the Megadrive depending what game you played were very coarse. Early games sounded cleaner than later ones like Sonic 3, Streets Of Rage 3, Mega Turrican etc.

Sounds almost identical to the Arcade version. except the bass is louder and the tempo is slightly faster than the original.

RetroMusicGames I think I like the Genesis version of this song a little more. Because of the deeper bass line.

There are always slight differences between games that are ported to various systems that use different style Yamaha sound chips. I often like to point to how little attention the YM2151 sound chip gets considering how many arcade systems used it (as did the X68000 computer).
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
All the sounds came from the Yamaha YM2612. Sounds very similar to a DX7.
@scottythegreat1 Жыл бұрын
The YM2612 was specifically designed and marketed to target console/computer manufacturers so they could cheapen out the computer/console by NOT needing a digital to analog converter chip to convert the sound needed Yamaha also designed their own synthesizers and in order to cut costs back in the 1970s and 1980s, vertical integration was the answer, so Yamaha did their own chips...Anyways, there are a lot of similarities between the synthesizers and computers/consoles that used Yamaha sound chips and the synthesizers, especially the YM2151 (which is what the arcade board used) and the YM2151 was also used in the DX21, DX27 and DX100 synthesizer.

Do love the lo fi drums sounds. Maybe from a Yamaha RX-5 drum machine.

I was a Nintendo guy and back then most people didn't have both systems, you had to pick one. I ended up purchasing genesis games on my wii and realized how much I missed out on. The genesis was a powerhouse that came out 2 years before the super Nintendo. I waited and got the super Nintendo but I must say the genesis more than stood the test of time for older hardware. The comparison of this track to the arcade version is almost identical, Sega was best at arcade games at the time and the genesis ported those arcade classics very well. Sega doesn't get the credit they deserve because the genesis was considered their last successful console. The dreamcast was ahead of it's time but easily pirated games stopped it from being successful despite having diehard fans of it still to this day.
@PointReflex6 ай бұрын
Concerning the Dreamcast the piracy wasn't the problem, in fact not a problem at all since the PS1 (or PSX for the friends) was filled with pirated copies across the continents and still outsold any competition available a the time. What truly killed the Dreamcast was Sega Enterprises' owners (I believe it was H&G Holdings) forcing them to stop production on the system despite its slow but more than sure success in its final year of production. For the record, those holders were the ones who from the inception of the Saturn wanted Sega to stop console production in favor of porting their entire library into other systems since they mistakenly thought that the company (despite them wining the 16-bit war overseas) never produced a console that outmatched the competition in the long run, but more than likely, they despised the horrible sells of the Mark and Megadrive Systems in japan and the brutal mistake that was their Saturn strategy overseas. Seeing the Dreamcast as a futile fantasy that would end in a liability to the cash flow (since nobody ever does money with the hardware) at the first excuse possible they forced their hand and canceled the system when it was actually making them good money due to the plethora of games been in development.

It's taking me listening to this upload to realize the sample are actually pretty high quality and are just getting completely fucked by the pcm driver

Best version sound...

Sounds good but it drums not as good as arcade. These days though the games just play mp3. Consoles then actually used their sound capabilities and there is something about that that is still impressive.

@@alexkubrat3868 that’s a great question, I guess for consoles the SCSP in the Sega Saturn was a really good sound chip, however it was barely used as most games just streamed music from the cd. So I guess it’s got to be Sound Blaster which is obviously a whole board as against a chip.
