03 Tahoe Crank but Stalls Part 1

This was a last minute call to check out an 03 Chevy Tahoe 5.3ltr cranking but stalls condition. My friend had the truck fully loaded and was about to head out on a camping trip, only to come to find the truck would not stay running. I was asked to diagnose it if I could, but I sure knew I wasn't intending on fixing it, not if it wasn't something quick to do. I'm behind on work.
Part 1 consists of my diagnostic process and pinpointing the issue.
Part 2 consists of my returning and using the scope to collect before repair captures of the fuel pump current. Strictly to get acquainted with my new tool really, but I think it helps "see" the difference of bad versus good. I included the after repair current captures as well, as the pump was done only a of couple days later.

Awesome Diag Video Cuba. Not sure if you do or not. But carrying a can of brake cleaner or starter fluid with you to give a spray or 2 into the intake manifold or vacuum port of a crank no start will give you very quick direction..... in fact when i get tow in vehicles rather than push it in (yes i know its dangerous lmao) i get my co-worker to spray brake cleaner into the intake while i drive the vehicle in with the hood open and he or i under the hood supplying fuel with the can.. It's a hilarious sight to see. 🤣🤣🤣

Cuba's Automotive just keep in mind , a fast screen time and zoom out . Like 10 to 20 ms it’s strange I’m sure , after using the pico which you are zooming in to get the detail . Snapon gives you it best detail with the shorter screen time , then zoom out . Not as good your pico , but useful in a pinch .

She said I'll have my buddy "Fat Kid Automotive" do it Lol... 😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅.... When I did mine I was in a pit designed for semi trucks at a Kenworth dealer and couldn't cut the bolt with one of the straps that wouldn't come loose so we had to use a airsaw so Sparky didn't light the fuel tank up. It was a P.I.T.A. job as well but we emptied, power washed inside and outside of tank and cleaned it down and dried it out well. Nothing but time on my side that day.

Hahahaha😂😂😂😂😂😂 Poor Drew, at Fatkid Automotive was cussing up a storm!! Lol. 1. I knew the customer was going to buy some wing-wang part. I didn't want to be stuck redoing next month. 2. That mother was seized on there... had to order a new locking ring and all. Went from probably 2 hr job... to 5 or 6 hrs or more.... and the cussing. Lol😂😂😂😂😂 So I was told.... oh man! Good old rust belt! Glad I was only doing the diag!!

I have a 99 Silverado it turns on fine then the rpms drop very low until it dies it only does it when it’s cold after it gets warmed up it runs like new. I have to keep the rpm’s at around 1500 for like a minute for it warm then it’s like nothing was wrong

The best thing to do is look at live data. Specifically MAF, coolant temp sensors, O2s, Fuel trims (long & short), & you must compare when it's running great to when it's dropping. The live data should point you in the right direction. I hope that helps.

@@CubasAutomotive any idea on how I would be able to look at the data do I need a specific tool?
@CubasAutomotive
@CubasAutomotive 4 ай бұрын
@@BRED23 you need at least a shop level tool, not necessarily have bidirectional controls but good enough to see it on graph mode. Typically between $500 to 1k. Or have a friend lend you one? Code readers are NOT what you're looking for... the ones that go for $50 to $200. if that makes sense. Launch & thinktool have pretty decent selections on Amazon. I'll see if I can find a reasonably priced one real quick.
@CubasAutomotive
@CubasAutomotive 4 ай бұрын
@@BRED23 this is the cheapest I found. I think my buddy Ivan, from Pine Hollow auto Diagnostics did a video on this tool. Mind you, it's 160 for the dongle & then like $80 for each vehicle subscription. Don't quote me on the sub. Could've gone up since then. Take note, the data is only as big as your phone screen then too. www.amazon.com/Thinkdiag2-Bidirectional-Diagnostic-Bluetooth5-0-Intelligent/dp/B09YRDGY3Z/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=16NZZTVWJ3YM7&keywords=thinkcar&qid=1704837430&sprefix=thinkcar%2Caps%2C345&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
