035▶️ Kaoss (Elektron Digitone & Korg Kaoss Pad Kp3+)

Electronic Jam! Trying to build a 2-minute electronic track from scratch, was my challenge here (using only 1 instrument, the Elektron Digitone synth).
The recording was thus made in 1 take.
The Digitone is going through the Korg Kaoss Pad Kp3+ (dynamic effect/sampler).
All I did before the recording was just set up 4 different sounds for each of the 4 tracks of the Digitone. I also used the KB SCALE feature of the instrument which help not going out of scale when playing/recording live 😊
I started recording track 2 which had the arpegiattor enabled, then recorded a little chime (track 3), and another arpegiattor on track 4. The bass-line is being played live (track 1).
During the session, I also recorded on the Kaoss Pad, 3 random audio snippets coming from the newly created Digitone Pattern (the volume was kept down because I didn't want the 3 loops to be heard just after the recording).
At the end of the track, I finally enabled each loop (alternatively) improvising a bass-line over it.

J'en remet une couche ici : Une fois de plus, tu nous gratifies d'une compo qui ne demande qu'à être concrétisée en véritable morceau. D'ailleurs sur le final tes passages alternés sur tes 3 loops du Kaoss Pad m'ont rappelés le morceau The Road de Kölsch sur son album 1983. Et ça fonctionne super bien avec ton jam. Donc je vais me répéter, mais passe aux 5-Minute On Fire une bonne fois pour toute ! 😉👍

Thanks Syndrive for the nice comment! I enjoy using the KP3+ as it can bring some nice variations on the audio you feed it in! It's true that in this video I mostly used its brief sampling feature, which I hadn't really used before 😅 I made another video on the same principle with another FM synth (Opsix) and the KP3+. @@2MinuteWarning It's that KP3+ that brought me here! I have a KP3+ that I've had for years. I break it out and play with it every once in awhile, but I've never used it for a recording or anything. But the thing is great! It's powerful. It's a Korg, so it sounds great. It looks awesome, of course. You've taught me an awesome way to use the sampler in this video! So I'm determined to use it and incorporate it into my setup as a regular bag of tricks!!

I'm really glad it helped bring some ideas as I initially created the channel mainly to share the use we have with our electronic instruments and effects 😃 As for the KP3+, I used to use it only as an effet and not a "sampler" and when I decided to test the sampling possibilities (which are quite basic actually) I made this video 😉

Hey thanks for the comment Xurdeaux Sound! 😃 The Kaoss Pad KP3+ is a very nice and intuitive multi-effects unit and I wanted to use more of its sampling capabilities (which are quite limited actually for a sampler, but to work on short loops, its a nice tool!) I think that your Digitone and Digitakt will surely enjoy having a tactile new friend 😉

Glad you enjoyed it! 👍The Octatrack can do way more than the KP3 😅but speaking about transitions, the KP3 (I also sometimes use the RMX-500 for transitions like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmW6aJuCppdnmMk) can be very handy adding effects (filter, delay, reverb, stutter etc.) occasionally with its tactile pad! (is that what you'd like to do?)

I'm very tempted by the Octatrack but can see it's a very deep rabbit hole that will distract from my other projects! Currently I'm making a bunch of solo Syntakt performances like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnvMY3WQZ6p9q6s so deliberately embracing the limitations, but looking ahead to how I can combine this with my analogue gear :) Out of curiosity have you dabbled with Bitwig Studio? The built-in modulators look great.

Ensure midi clock out is enabled on the gear you want to sync with. Ensure midi clock receive is enabled on the KP.

At 1:20 min of this video when the bassline is being improvised live with some help from the scale function of the digitone, How exactly does it work ? and is it possible to quantize and unquantize the note in live mode without recording with the digitone? and with a digitakt

Hi, the scale function only helps for not playing a note which is not from the scale. No quantization possible in live mode, actually it's just like trying to play a piano or a synth 😊

Yes there are 4 slots where you can record 4 different loops (with the same or different lengths). "Can you affect the music going thru the Kaoss pad?" > If you'd like to know if the Kaoss pad can process audio passing trough it while the loops are playing, then the answer is yes (that's how I used it in the video, however I'm not sure I understood the question 😉)
