@@everydayirace I have a few questions about my Gen. 1 Build... I got a question for you I am currently looking at a 2005 ZX 1000R, it supposedly has a bad head gasket. Is that common for that year bike. Also can I just replace the head gasket without having to take my head to a machine shop. Thanks
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
It's not very common, but it happens. If you want to do the job once it's a good idea to take the head to the machine shop, while you're at it you can deck the head and get little more power out of it. Before all that you might want to do more testing to find out exactly what the problem is.

I have a general question you seem like you know a lot about these 04 ZX10R so basically I took my engine to the shop to have a head gasket replaced it wasn't really leaking that bad so they've had it for about 2 months I call them today and ask them what's going on they told me that my motor was trash and when they were installing the head they can only torque it to 25 ft lb and the threads ripped out when they were putting the head on have you ever heard of something like that happen and what is the easiest way to fix that I've heard I could do a helium coil but also was told that there could be too much pressure and the bike has too much torque that it would not work what would be your suggestion and also I've heard of them saying I can do a Time sert so please get back to me soon as possible and let me know what you recommend because buying a new casing block is out of the question I've also heard racers usually weld in studs with a aluminum welder and put on lock washers and nuts on the top to make it easy access for the head to come off please let me know what you recommend soon as possible
@everydayirace4 жыл бұрын
Block is aluminum, pretty common to pull threads out especially when using aftermarket head bolts. Time cert is better than helicoil, but if it was my engine, I'd replace engine cases.

Question, so I am looking to put a gen 2 motor into my gen 3 bike (I am having trouble sourcing a gen 3 motor...) and I am curious, if I wanted to put my gen 3 cams into the gen 2 head do I also need to replace the valve springs? Anything else I would have to do? I want the motor to run as close to the gen 3 performance as possible... I would also swap out the valve spring retainers, good idea? Bad idea? Sorry for the long winded comment. I would love some input on this as I do not know for sure what I can do without creating long term problems.. (this bike is my daily)
@everydayirace4 жыл бұрын
The gen2 engine will bolt right in, replacing springs isn't mandatory, but you can along with gen3 retainers. Gen3 intake cam with gen2 exhaust cam would work the best. You'll also need to switch stator or stator plug, they are different. You can also replace the head gasket with .55 or .55mm to boost performance, but the engine will run little warmer. Shifter will have to be flipped too or you'll have a Moto gp shift pattern, intake boots are also slightly different, might need some trimming.
@Alex-xp2lb4 жыл бұрын
@@everydayirace thank you so much for the input! So just to confirm what you've said, I can go without swapping the springs and just swap retainers out, then use a gen 3 cam for the intake and leave the gen 2 cam for exhaust. Might need to trim the intake boot (if new motor does not come with one). Flip the shifter so that the patterns arent reversed (not sure what that entails?). I have a new stator for the bike so that will fix the issue with the plug. Do you think this thinner head gasket is worth me tearing apart the new motor for? I don't really want the issues with heat too much as this is my daily... Another question that just popped into my head is will this set up work fine with the secondary injectors added in on the gen 3? I know that you had mentioned before that the intake valves on a gen 2 are not titanium while the gen 3 are, just want to ensure I won't be over stretching there worth. Thank you so much again for helping me out with all this! It's huge to me! Gained a subscriber for sure today!

@@Alex-xp2lb pull all the springs and test them, if they're in good shape use them, if not replace them. Everything you mentioned is correct, use gen 3 throttle bodies and all the efi parts will work just like before. I installed a gen3 engine in my gen2 bike, the same way and it ran great

@@everydayirace last thing, and I'm really sorry for taking so much of your time, I'm thinking if I leave the exhaust cam alone then I shouldn't touch anything on the exhaust side and just do intake springs retainers and cam.. Is there anything wrong with doing this?

It's fine, just check all retainers, otherwise you'll be looking for another engine if retainer fails.

You will need to drill a hole in the head to install a cam position sensor, unless you're running a stand alone ecu. You will also need to fab up mounting point for the engine mount. And coolant port is also in a different location. You can compare the 2 by looking both heads up on google image, all those 3 things are visible.
