Brilliant comment! As I said in an earlier post on this site, weather prediction is not an exact science, it’s a “likelihood” for example all you need is a slight increase or decrease in wind speed or direction, for the predicted pattern to change. As you say, a best guess based on all the information they have available.

I live in Cambridgeshire and there’s like 0.5-1 inches of snow

Just look at some of these comments. Supposedly adult people whinging because they didn’t get snow falls of biblical proportions, others complaining it was only 2in so the forecast was wrong blah blah blah. It’s a weather prediction, or if you like a best guess, based upon computer data. Likewise we have mountains, coastal regions and inland flatlands, all of which react differently to any sort of weather. We are a tiny island with 64m people and because you didn’t get what you hoped for, like a 6yr old child you come on here whinging about it.

Hello from the Highlands. We have had snow for days now. Barely registered on forecasts other than "wintry showers in Scotland". But thats OK. We dont need the hype. We all manage despite there being massive differences in snow fall and drifts from one side of a mountain to the other. Any time one of the big cities down south has an inch of snow it seems to need amber warnings. I cant think when our last snow warning was yet its been white here on and off for a month.

Thses computer models spit out warnings which mostly never materialise .

We need to sort out this business of "Heavy" snow. 1-2 inches of wet snow is not not by any measure accurately described as "Heavy". I understand the need for alerting the country for the potential for some disruption ahead of the fronts moving through, but once the evidence is on the ground, forecasts need to be updated, and not over stated. Here in North Staffordshire, on the edge of the Peak District, this period of slushy wet snow barely reaches over the welt of my boots, and the dormant grass lying low for winter is clear to see. So, can we please avoid the vain attempts of the press to cause mild hysteria amongst the feeble minded amongst us and widen the descriptive terms used to more accurately describe the situation. To perpetuate the myth in the common press that this is a crisis just feeds into the snowflake narrative and weakens the moral fibre of this once hardy country. 😊
