Just finished and loved it. Yes the parts of it don't click together (we go from learning to be a scholar to fighting in the eternal war very quickly( and I am a bit horrified by the amount of character death. Yes the shattered plains arc was done better in the Way of Kings. But it was still a good book that mad me hooked from start to finsih.

Yeah the individual pieces are really good it just there’s no downtime to transition us from one arc to the next. It feels like you could decompress this into a couple books

Im a little surprised Elantris was picked up instead of this tbh, this is a much better book in my opinion, but I guess the length of the thing was not in its favor :/

It’s more focused and has that snappy “fantasy zombies” angle that’s easy to market.

The book is available for free on his website too. It's because he doesn't want people to pay for a book that he doesn't consider good enough to be sold since it's from very early on in his career. Also it's not canon in the currently published Cosmere. A re-written version of Dragonsteel will come out sometime in the future

​@Edward-W When it does come out, it should be very different. No Shattered Plains, and presumably, it will have something to do with the shattering of Adolnousim, which means having all of the Dawnshards present.
