To the ones that matter(the greatest guitar players in the world) he is 100% recognized as the talent that he is. His early work, Room For Squares kind of boxed him in, and when the uninitiated think of him, they think Your Body is a Wonderland. Those same people have never seen him absolutely SHRED SRV and Jimi Hendrix or even play the Blues. He’s the greatest, most well rounded player of all time IMHO. Though I’m biased.

SC ASH The only people who say John Mayer’s songs are easy to play are people who don’t know how to play the guitar.. Some of his earliest music (songs like “Neon” from Room For Squares and “Stop This Train” from Continuum) is ridiculously challenging.. And his newer stuff isn’t much easier..

I've been learning this particular version of his and its super difficult to replicate. The style of playing, the speed, the chords, the timing etc. Also this live version of " My Stupid Mouth " is my favorite one.

Is it possible to get that good of a strum. His strumming is so clean. I’ve played guitar without a lot of structure and I don’t have a musical gift, but the timing and precision he has with his strumming, is that possible for someone to learn if they’re not musically gifted

Easier than it looks! With John’s songs (the hard ones at least) you gotta keep practicing at slow pace and then pace it up to what the song actually sounds like! Don’t give up

*power chords, E shaped major chords use the middle finger as do A shaped minor chords, and the majors if they do that really weird three fingers stacked together, as for the E shaped minor chords, gou can flip people off but its awkward.

He’s never really matched the batch of songs from his first album. He’d probably been working on them for ten plus years then he had less than half that time for his follow up. Really makes you appreciate a band that releases great album after great album over a long career
