LAKE DISTRICT WALK IN THE BORROWDALE VALLEY FEATURING SEATOLLER, CASTLE CRAG AND GRANGE-IN-BORROWDALE
“Beauty of Borrowdale”
Filmed 3rd June 2016
Post-production completed 5th August 2016
Whilst staying in the Lake District I decide to leave the car behind and catch the bus to Seatoller where my walk begins. Climbing up high I get wonderful views of Borrowdale before descending into the valley to follow a riverside path back towards Seatoller in time for a leisurely bus ride back to Keswick…..
Filmed in the Lake District in the county of Cumbria. Locations include Seatoller, Castle Crag, Grange, Longthwaite and the end of Honister Pass.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler

You did have great weather for this journey, Patrick. I know that the Lake District can be dicey with the weather sometimes, many long periods of rain and mist, but this was a treat and especially with being your birthday, too. Seatoler and Grange look to be delightful places and Castle Crag really stands out in the lovely scenery. The area reminds me a little of North West Wales, where the slate workings have been, with the screes of granitic rock lying around, and many of the village buildings constructed of dark hard rock, the lovely Holy Trinity church at Grange, being an example. Most enjoyable, and many thanks for this showing.

I can remember being pretty exhausted after filming this walk as it was so hot. Lovely one to film though. I can see the resemblance to the slate country of North Wales. Thanks for watching this Ffranc, all the best 👍

I first visited Borrowdale, when I was living in East London, aged 15 back in early October 1976, as part of my O Level Geography studies. I remember it took three coaches to get us there. The first never even got to our school as the gear stick came away in the driver’s hand, The second coach got us as far as Enfield in north London, before the engine caught fire. The third coach was an ancient one with a Perkins engine. Couldn’t go faster than 50 mph and struggled up some of the hills as we approached Keswick, where we were staying at the Lakeside Hotel. The first thing I remember on arriving in Keswick was just how wonderfully clean the cold air was compared to that in the East End. Wainwright was of the opinion that the jaws of Borrowdale represented the loveliest square mile of countryside anywhere on Earth. Who am I to argue. Paul Beachcroft

I went to Grange in 1958 with school age 12 year old. We stopped in Stair in Newland Valley . I,ve been very time since, l love this area. Cat Bells is my favourite place, though the whole area is really good. I like your walks . I can,t walk very far - I have a hip problem and other age problems. Dave from Teesside.

I loved celebrating my 50th birthday for a week in the Lake District, albeit a few weeks after the actual day itself. You have now watched every single one of my short films, I am truly grateful for that and it was the film after this that you first commented on. I hope to able to start posting new films before too long. So, as I always say, thank you for watching Frank and Lee. Cheers Patrick :-)

Thanks Patrick. Beautiful video of a magical place. I used to go to the Lake District often in the mid to late 90's. It's a special place. Unfortunately I haven't been back since then so I must make it a priority. When I first went there the beauty of it took my breath away. The only other place that had that effect on me was the Exmoor/North Devon coast where I was lucky enough to live for a while. Just saw your video on Lynmouth which brought back memories. Hope you can get out and make more videos when restrictions are lifted. All the best.

Great music here Patrick. I've not mentioned in in my previous comment. I am always taken in by the wonderful new music on all of your videos. I don't know if you would ever consider making a video of how you come to get the idea or the inspiration for the tunes.? Those Peak district videos have Peak District ish style music that one would expect to hear there.. amazing stuff. well done.
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks David. It's actually very hard to come up with new music for every video I make. I normally compose themes to represent places. In this one I recorded a version of my Lake District theme, which can be heard in most of my other films in the Lakes. As you have noticed I have done similar for my Peak District films. With many other films though I often get stuck for ages to come up with a new theme, then others just come into my head almost immediately, it's weird. I do give some background on my website in the "background and production details" sections on each film's page as to how I come up with the music. Cheers, Patrick :)

I love all your Lake District videos - a place I love - I've watched them about 20 times each! In fact these are my favourite videos of yours Patrick. The music and filming is of professional standard. I also love the earlier Lake District video where you tell the story about the lovely Ros! Again the music on that video is really really good too. Do you plan to go the Lake District this year (2019)? Terry
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for all your kind words Terry, much appreciated. The music is the most enjoyable part of making my films, so it's great to know it is well received. The earlier Lake District film you mention is the last of the longer length ones, so after that I decided to make films that were only 20 minutes maximum. I'm not planning on going back to the Lakes just yet. In fact, once I've edited more of the backlog of films I shot last year, I plan to take a bit of a break from filming due to all the work involved, especially this past 5 years where I've made over 100 films during that time. Thanks for watching Terry and for commenting. Cheers, Patrick :)
