Holy crap! You just saved my bacon! Released the slack at the pedal, got a small racket strap on the cable to get ALL the slack out of the pedal assembly, and then with vice grips at the left rear end was able to get the lug in the slot. Just came back from a test drive, and I REALLY HAVE A EMERGENCY BRAKE. Thanks for the info. Pay attention, this guy helps!

I have a 2007 2500HD classic, same set up. Releasing tension on the pedal is a great help. Lisle also makes a tool that assists you getting the tear drop end out of the coupling at mid- point. It was a very well done video.

Thanks Chris! I've got a 2001 Sierra 2500hd. Replaced the middle cable, but couldn't reset the tension that's necessary to complete the job. Your vid will hopefully bale me out. Happy trails! 👍

Thanks for the vid, apparently it is unique and is much appreciated. My 2010 2500 has a different set up on the foot pedal - strange.... there was no way to gain slack at that point...I ended up backing off the passengers side tension where the two cables meet up on the metal bracket (where the front of the drivers cable clicks in) and was able to achieve enough slack that way..... Also struggled to get that gall darn cable out of the connector (the one that was squirted w/ panther piss).... found there is a tiny slot you can use a miniature flatblade to pry it out - a pleasant surprise. Thanks again for the wonderful step by step -saved me $$$!!

Was working on a 2011 2500, foot brake didn't have self-adjust mechanism. Was the foot pedal the type you pressed to both apply and release the brake. For that setup I had to pull both rear rotors to get enough slack to reconnect the cables.
