07 Honda Trx450R Starter Clutch or Reducer Gear Bad?

So after our bad purchase from eBay. I would say price a gasket and a starter clutch from them and just spend the extra money. last think you want to do is force something that fits and it only lasts a couple of rides. Hope all this helps!

Torque spec for that primary drive gear is 80 ft lbs, clutch hub bolt is 59 ft lbs, and the counterbalance shaft is 40 ft lbs

Are we talking about on the bottom of the case on the motor where the brake lever is at. Or are we talking about what holds the brake reservoir on? Or something internally in the motor?

I just picked a nasty 450r and I think that’s the problem! Is there a part number for it ?

It’s been a little bit now. But I remember all I had to do was start looking up starter gear on a trx450 and I found it pretty quickly.

I checked my reduction gear and there is absolutely no play in it. And the starter clutch itself seems to lock up nicely when i try to spin it the wrong way. Im not sure what is causing my issue. I dont have a constant free spinning noise it kind of comes and goes randomly and sometimes it happens for a second and other times it will happen for a few seconds until i let go of the starter button and try again.

So I'm not sure how your testing it. But I would say to keep in mind that it is turning over a 450. So I'm sure this is decent amount tension when it's cranking over the bike. You could prolly go in and replace the parts now. Or just wait to it gets worse and you can take that cover off. Pull your spark plug wire off and then test it and see which parts failing. Honestly there are better videos out there like people have said. I had only done this job twice in my whole life and was definitely new to making videos still. But as far as I know those two pieces are the only two things that could cause that slipping. Hope this helps you out somehow

Literally throw a 12mm on an impact and empty the trans oil in 30 seconds. 🙈 plus, fresh oil every 3-5 hard rides is good to do anyways. And an allen key on impact for brake lever. Do it right man.

Ahhh the brake lever trick. I knew I did it a different way.It threw me off since we disconnected it. Only done it a couple times with all my machines so I forgot. And everything I own usually gets a change after 1 or 2 rides. The honda only one that keeps the trans and engine oil separate. And she's kinda the red headed step child of the bunch. Ooo and we did change the oil and it was was pretty clean. Thanks for the reminder on the brake lever!

@@FullSpeedImpulse no problem, I just like to take my time and enjoy every step of working on my machines. For instance, if I had to rejet. I would never take the shortcut and rotate the carb, because once you loosen the clamps, 8 screws later you can just pull it up and out and go to the workbenches. People dont realize those few extra steps/screws dont make anything harder, and taking shortcuts doesnt make it easier. Usually makes it take longer and harder. (:

Yea I hear ya. I've just been so busy lately trying to get stuff ready that I feel like I've been rushing. Quad wasn't on the list so it kinda got pushed in on our schedule. I will say though. Taking a carb out is so much easier on a trx450 then a yfz. Woof. Lol. Take it easy bud and thanks for the response.

Weld on the backside of the bigger gear where you see the clip is. Don't worry about on how your teeth are position. It will still slide in after welded. Good luck!
