Hurricanes carry some 'excitement' in anticipation, but can also destroy cities and lives, but with at least a week to prepare. Supposedly school had been or was 'canceled' for the day, parents at work, some kids home etc. Again, absolutely terrifying and the sirens didn't sound either and no parent would have had time to get to children. What in the heck?! This is so hard to take in. I’ve lived on Maui for 23 years. I live upcountry, we still have fires going, but not to the tragic extent of Lahaina. This breaks my heart. I feel terrible for him and he is likely to have trauma from this for the rest of his life. The next time you walk past an unhoused person just remember that they are still ppl and may be the one to save you in an emergency. Just because someone is unhoused doesn’t mean society should discard or look down on them. He is a hero for rescuing those dogs and I hope he finds his wife and dog safe. The New Mexico wildfire almost got the town of Las Vegas, New Mexico. But the firefighters were able to save it. I'm from the New Mexico burn scar area and they aren't doing nothing for my area. All they are doing is letting the loggers come in and cut down trees and have them.

I lived in Hawaii for 14 years and it will always hold a special place in my heart. When I was there last year, I had the Lahaina GPS Coordinates tattooed on my wrist on Front Street. Sadly, I don’t think they have enough resources- yet to complete the search. I heard that 12 cadaver dogs are being flown in to assist with the search. I’d like to know how this started and why it got out of control so quickly. And that there were previous fires that they weren’t prepared for either and wouldn’t you think they’d do something different incase of something EXACTLY LIKE THIS!!!! UNREAL!!!

I moved to Maui in 1976. I left in the late 1980’s to further my career here on the mainland. My entire family still live upcountry. My sister says there are no words to describe how it feels to be there knowing what has happened. Surreal doesn’t begin to describe it. As bad as the smoke from the cane fires, and volcano back in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s were, this is a total hell scape. I believe the fire was helped by the fact that sugar is no longer a thing, and the land hasn’t been replanted, but after all the years of spraying chemical pesticides, it’s not likely much would grow there anyway. My mom worked in Lahaina first at the Broiler, then at the Pioneer Inn. She passed from cancer in 2016, right before the onslaught of the trumpster fire, and subsequent plandemic, which I was grateful she didn’t have to endure, but this would’ve sent her over the edge, as she so loved Lahaina. This reminds me of a platitude I think of often: I used to complain I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet…. My guess is the death toll will easily top 1000 when all the destruction is finally assessed. Perhaps this event will draw people on the planet closer together, and help us realize that love, compassion, and gratitude for friends and family are our most treasured possessions.

He said he was homeless before the fire. But then said he saw his wife on the beach and they were gonna go to Safeway and get some drinks, get some dinner and "go back to the crib to watch some movies". My heart breaks for EVERYONE on Maui right now, and who went through a night of PURE HELL with the fires. I hope everyone finds peace somehow. Something is very wrong with this story. What the heck? Saving trapped animals on other people's property? Cutting them out of cages, but no scratches or burns on him? Was on the mountain under a bridge when the fire began? Birds-eye view? Met up with wife on the beach before the fire to go grocery shopping, but then they went in different directions. Mentions a home but lives under a bridge. Says nobody started the fire, but gets nervous and mouth gets dry. Sorry, but something is off.

I thought he called it the pad and a lot of people who live in large tents or live in their vehicles and are watching movies on their laptops or phones are at least grateful for that and do refer to it as their home or their pad . There's a good possibility that's what he meant ... but is so freaked out from all of this that he can't think clearly and is probably in some shock . Guy interviewing him should have caught that and asked him to clarify so as not to confuse the viewer . ... or if he was lying , interviewer could have tried to get the guy to explain himself so we could decide what he's really saying .

One thing I noticed about the quantities of incinerated vehicles in Lahaina is that the heat was so extreme that the license plates melted and are therefore gone. That means they'll only be identifiable by their VINs, which I hope have remained intact; I assume they're engineered to last under such conditions. Not only would the owners - if they survived - need to be able to collect their insurance on the destroyed cars, but the vehicles would provide evidence for what happened to missing people if their remains are never found.

I’m not sure but I think the VIN number is on the registration and I’m very sure that the private auto insurance has it. Now hopefully they will do the right thing and pay claims !!!!! Mine isn’t - but I’m not letting up either. This all so horrible the last thing they need is to fight with insurance but I’m sure they will have to! 😞🙏

The insurance on damaged and destroyed buildings is going to be an immense battle which will probably go on for months or even years - and the amounts are far greater than for individual vehicles. In turn, this will affect how long it'll take to get things rebuilt and running again in Lahaina. @@leanneadams2549

The homeless guy runs into the fire to put others first. His empathy is Angelic. I saw another video a car full of people drive past a woman laying face down and didnt evennstop to check on her. This is an example. People are self serving and lovers of themselves. This man is homeless because Americans have made a society only a narcissist can keep up with and thrive. A person with rmapthy will be taken advantage of till they give up andbstay homeless or in extreme poverty like me.

I saw on one of the television stations that one of the young ladies who evacuated has started a database of who has been found and who is still missing. I don't have any more information than that but maybe someone else will know who she is in case his wife is on the list ready or to be able to add both of them to it.

there should be a post note and picture made at the Banyan tree or local hotel, at Fleetwood Mac pub, somewhere local where you and your family member used to hang at. Get a piece of paper, or old picture, with a note, anything and post it. that's how they used to do it in other disasters. You are doing the best you can. You are standing You are alive.
