And make sure you change that fluid and filter every single year. Don't miss a change. Your trans will last the life of the vehicle if you keep that fluid and filter changed regularly. It's 2023 now. I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan and my trans shifts smooth as silk with no issues for the last 10 years.

Just purchased a 19 and the trans was not shifting smoothly and other little things that didn't seem right. Didn't see the tube under the wire harness and no dip anyway. Using your method, there was only a tiny bit of fluid on the end of the stick. Filled it up to 2+ inches and wow, what a difference. Thank you very much.

Very helpful my transmission started slipping today. I was an ASE master mechanic and machinist from 1983-2001. All my vehicles prior to my 13 Grand Caravan were built prior to 2004. All were RWD US modified muscle Cars and 4WD trucks to haul the cars. Most were from late sixties and early seventies and had transmission dipsticks. Even though, transmissions don't "burn" fluids The solution for a slippy trans was check and add fluid in most cases. Or, just add a pint of trans stop slip. I freaked when I opened the hood and didn't see a dipstick. I said a few explicatives about Italian MOPARs, but I walked away before My PTSD caused ne to light my van on fire. It is dark now in The AM I am gopin to use your idea. WISH ME LUCK. 🍀🤞

My transmission cooling lines were leaking and I just replaced them. I needed to put some more fluid in and I ended adding a quart. Shifting much better now. Thanks so much for the video.

Changed my filter and fluid today at 40,000 miles. Some would say I did it to soon. Seems like its more about the filter than the fluid. Looking at the new one with a flashlight, it just looks like a coffee sort of filter. After break in, it could get somewhat clogged with clutch powder and metal filings ect. The magnet was thick with filings. Set the level at 2 inches again and man it shifts smooth. Took about five and a half quarts. We will call it, being nice to it.

Great tip. Just got a 2014 Town and Country and wanted to check the fluid but couldn't find a dipstick. How about cutting a couple lines in the back of the dipstick instead of using a Sharpie to have permanent marks?

You could have said simply that the Trans oil should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch max below the letter "S" on the word "Safe" of the oil dipstick 😀

I just want to specify. that the key part of the fluid level is the temp of the trans. just because you drove for 15 min will not heat it up that much. If people follow with these directions you will overfill it. I drove 30 min on highway at 110 kph or 70 mph... my trans showed a temp of 120 not 180 in which your showing... Your trans is never as hot as your engine. Ive used a cheap OB2 scanner off amazon and hooked up through torque 2 pro app and get my temps.. after driving 30 min at 120 degrees.. my lvl was a 32mm which was perfect... CAUTION you overfill or keep too low your trans will go.... be for warned

Well if you re-watch the video you will see that I don’t fill it right to the top, I fill it till the middle since the fluid is warm and not fully hot. But good point thanks for watching

Mine was low enough to go into limp mode. After filling the transmission to the proper level, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and all are reset. Reset the clock as well.

If the dipstick misses the catch and lands at the bottom of the pan, you will have a false indication that the tranmission is up to level. Very dangerous approach. I know it too well, i changed the fluid and filter, added 4 litres of ATF+4 and got the mark at 55mm with the engine at operating temperature . Official documentation states that I should be adding at least 5.2 litres after a fluid change.

You are assuming that 15 mins of driving will bring the transmission up to 200 degrees. You should be looking at a good scan tool to find the transmission temp.

You don’t just check it one time, you check it all week, long drive short drives so you can get an average, Especially after a filter change or something, you know when your fluids fully hot and you know when your fluid is fully cold. You can get super technical with everything but this works, good luck with whatever you’re doing

When you are checking the transmission level, you do not care what the average temperature is. You only care what it is at the time you are checking the level. Your chart has a temperature at the bottom. If you are driving in the mountains, you may hit the max temp on your chart.

I have a 2013 town and country I try this but dipstick didn't go as far down like yours.. i try to twisted, pushed down and Nothing it stops, ( reference to yellow handle on dipstick yours stops like at the battery level) Mines stops way higher Base on the video.
